  • Cool

  • What kind of string is Paul using ??

  • Comment removed

  • i can see in the right a vox amp ....but in the left what kind of amp is that?

  • @pollobollo27 Ashdown Bass amp

  • @edobb001 thank you

  • who the fuck dislikes this

  • QUOTE ''The Bass on this track is very simple''.

All i could think of was " Of Course It Is, Paul McCartney wrote it!

I'm sorry, But he is not a Bass Master! This is grade one standard like most of 'The Beatles' bass lines.

  • @CorruptBlue So just because you write simple bass lines, you're no good.. that makes no sense. Good day.

  • @ZeBrawler123 You're right! The essence of good bass playing, especially in pop, is to provide the most basic, simple harmonic & rhythmic foundation to the music, which Paul always did. Even in sophisticated music, that bass philosophy leaves space & makes it easier for others to play better stuff. Great though he was, Jaco Pastorius, in that way set the music world back because followers became "lead bassists" to the detriment of that harmonic & rhythmic foundation they traditionally provided.

  • @CorruptBlue you have to listen more of his songs, hear the entire abbey road and you will change your mind

  • on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) how hard is it to play the bass?

  • @Dan5cerKa5t Like a three maybe with the fills. It's very easy, but it's a groovy song, and you gotta love Paul.

  • @Dan5cerKa5t What do you mean? It's a tough instrument to get used to. And in terms of theory it's the same as guitar. Maybe a 5

  • @Dan5cerKa5t

Depends what you want out of it. If you want to play like Sid Vicious it's one of the easiest instruments there is; if you want to play like Jaco Pastorius it'll make you work as hard as you would on any other instrument.

  • actually kind of cool - but were waiting for the film Black cat, White cat.

  • Is he selftaught?

  • did anyone else see the video where he says "Right ok to da bass" for 5 minutes?

  • @jorganbon Yeahh :L

  • @jorganbon i saw it i tought i was gonna get fooled with this one too

  • ha, hes pretty goofy really..

  • In the beginning I just expected the "Right, OK! For the bass!" thing going repeatetly again like in the another video.

  • @TeamMastaPr2 Yeah me too. lol

  • c, dm, c, dm ect...

  • 0:50 F!

  • @MaximilianTintin i laughed at that part too

  • ive gotta hofner :)

  • A demystifying experience . . . sort of. Yet his genius would lead him to play notes no one could predict and make music we, by copying, couldn't.

  • Paul mccartney....used to b amazing, should i say...

  • He writes good songs and he's nice put hes a very fucking overrared bassist.

  • How can 55 people dislike this? Its just a nice old man teaching us how to play bass.

  • @generallyafailure123 what old man look how young he looks

  • @LtDrg35 OK, old in years but young in looks and at heart. That OK?

  • so when you play bass you dont strum like guitar righ?

  • what song is this?

  • @leanneandreese It D minor bamp ba ba ba A bam bam ab G

  • @ch3rrysunbur5t okay thanks :)

  • @leanneandreese every present past

  • Bass lessons from Paul. Too cool!!

  • song name

  • Real Paul is death!

  • Hes using Flatwounds on his bass

  • Better than Jack Bruce? I dont think so!

Listen to his Bass -playing in his solo album made nearly 40 years ago called: 'Songs for a Taylor' McC isn't even in Jack's league.

  • McCartney in a higher league than Jack Bruce?.....I very much don't think so!

( apart from his brilliant playing when with Cream, listen to his solo album, circa 1970-ish, called 'Songs for a Taylor', then tell me if he's better than Macca...

  • For those critical of McCartney's bass playing, search "Rain bass original speed." Click on the second video (picture should be a guy sitting with a Rickenbacker).

  • Bass Master? I don't think so. Beetles music is so safe and sterile, devoid of energy and lacking edge. So is this Bass line. Compare it with Jack Bruce as an example, a proper bass player, totally different league.

  • @elbazzer Are you joking? Have you ever actually listened to any of Paul's basslines before? Listen to some of Paul's basslines on the Sgt Pepper's album, or any of them really to be honest. Paul is an absolutely genius bass player. His ear for melody shines in his melodic basslines that will always put him in a higher league than Jack Bruce.

And this is coming from a huge Cream fan as well.

  • @growmeabeard Ok thanks for the reply, I will have a listen to Sgt Pepper, I am a bass player myself but I have never really noticed PmC bass lines before and when I watched this video I thought it was pretty mediocre. But as you are a Cream fan you must know what you are talking about. I wont ever be a Beetles fan as it's just not raw enough if you know what I mean.

  • @elbazzer "Beatle" and he's a beast at the walking Bass Line. Like the other person said listen to the Bass on Sgt. Pepper. Also on "I Saw Her Standing There" "Hey Bulldog" Back in the USSR" and "Birthday" among others.

  • @TheKCfan01 Thxs, ditto above

  • Oh I agree with you, one of the best skills a musician can know, in my opinion, is knowing when not too play. George Harrison was also a master at this skill. instead of constantly playing lead he would usually jump back to rhythm during songs, doing that gives the lead part extra specialness

  • I'm glad he cant read sheet music. Makes me feel better as a bass player hahaa. Then again he just goes off by chords.

  • @TNTIV he can read music, he used to not be able to but he taught himself eventually (and tabs and chords are great, but reading music always helps so i suggest giving it a try sometime)

  • Geez, he's giving advise but he's playing it backwards man...

  • 0:22 love that scratch

  • Paul mcartney freaking awesome!!!!!!

  • " Little Baby :D" Me Yes!!!!!

  • @tyrantsfaceisred it looks like la Bella flatwounds

  • he should do a lesson of ofher bass line, like paperback writer or rain or michelle. his bests bass lines!

    or teach us blackbird!

  • Paul Mc Cartney is a very good tasteful bassplayer in his own right. I could play a hundred times better technically, but could never come near his creativity and musicality. There are many bassplayers who inspire people to get involved with music and make people happy, and everyone has his own preferences. If you think Paul Mc Cartney is a bad bassplayer after all the things he did on so many records, you don't really know what is most important about music. IMHO.

  • @benjati Very true! There's just something about the way Paul plays. It's a way in which even if you've never heard the song before you can just listen to the bass and immediately know it's Paul playing. And the funny thing is only Paul can make it sound like Paul, even with the simplest bass line.

  • What was it he was singing at the end?

  • i wander what gauge of strings he uses.. they look rather thin

  • C'mon, baby!

  • Flatwound strings and using his thumb...Sir Paul at his finest

  • paul mc carney!, un grande siempre!

  • @glenclosed Man, relax, this lesson isn't an advanced lesson, obviously... I don't even play bass or guitar, but I appreciate technical expertise, that is an easier bass line than many of his songs. I'm a singer/songwriter, I keep hearing about your great band & how technically intense you are? Please, show us how wonderful you are, what is your band? Adam Clayton kicks ass too, so do many many bassists. My band, punk, grunge, psychedelic Rockers.

Go to: 'Buried Alive by Lost Dimension' my vid

  • when else could u get a short tutorial by the best bass player ever, thanx P.M.

  • For the guys that "think" that Macca is not a genius on bass lines I can say that Muhammad Ali was a bad boxer, Mark Spitz a crap swimmer and Federer a shitty tennis player.

  • what is this song called

  • @tautua44 Ever present past ;)

  • I wish he'd play his Rickenbacker occasionally.

  • Luv ya Paul!!!

  • I think Paul took over the bass-duties of the Beatles in 1961 or 62 and he has played bass ever since. Thats roughly 50 years of bass-experience!

To have Sir Paul as a teacher would be extremely rewarding for a budding bass-player :)

  • "So that's it, very simple" wait dude, you are Paul McCartney! you dont do simple things! you have a secret technique!!!

  • he is/was such a great phenomenal singer song writer. but people tend to forget that he is top ten bass player of all time. at least in my opinion

  • Look at that flawless technique!

  • Ok a sus ordenes Maestro usted dice Ea Ea, tomando clase con Paul seeee...

  • haha, so amazing and amusing :DDD

  • this man is a legend and this lesson is fifty gazillion times better than the one that jonas shithead gave on guitar paul rules and can still sing, play bass, piano, guitar, etc. hes one of the greatest entertainers of all time

  • Whats the mark on the bass at 0:22

  • Please, no bad comments, this guy is a living legend.

  • He should do this with Beatles songs.

  • Yawn.

Hey kids, bass lesson: don't listen to anyone who says McCartney is a bass player.

    It's bullshit, he sucks.

    Always wear a condom.

  • @glenclosed dude, he's a pop rock bassist. You cite those who do funky things like slapping, they're not even playing in the same field.

Paul wasn't initially the bassist but like everything he does, he does it with commitment. Many of his bass lines are melodic unlike the spamming of the chords' note most of today's pop rock band bassists do, and he sings while doing it (check out Penny Lane)!

No, he doesn't do spectacular things like slapping but he composes and performs really cool bass lines

  • @PhantomT1412

    *Paul wasn't initially the bassist*.

That says it all about McCartney being a so called Bass Player.

He's not a bass player at all, he sucks on bass.

  • @glenclosed I understand your pov: it pisses you off Paul is called "bass master" or whatever while thousand of pro/session bassists are technically superior to him but that doesn't mean you can say he sucks.

The sound comes before the technics, and if he pulls out good one from his bass so he's a good bass player. Obviously, if he was only a bass performer, he doesn't have enough skill to be hired as a pro bassist but with his talent he doesn't need to.

  • this is the most uneducated comment I have ever heard....that's all I have to say.

  • @trollgoal You don't know what you're talking about.

Bass Lessons from McCartney? I'm off too Adam Clayton lessons.

  • wow...you're not only smart but humble too!!!

  • @glenclosed

What is your frame of reference? This video? Paul said himself that this bass line was simple. If you want melodic McCartney bass-lines, listen to "Rain", "Taxman", "Baby You're a Rich Man", and "And Your Bird Can Sing". Obviously, there are more songs I could suggest, but those bass-lines really stand out for me. Stop telling McCartney fans that he's an awful bass-player because clearly we aren't listening to you.

  • McCartney has no right to giving lessons playing bass, is this an ego trip or what?

Look at him using his thumb, that's as close to Mark King as he'll ever get.

And where's he going with the pick? That's what failed guitar players do.

McCartny sucks, he should be watching bass lessons not giving them.

  • @glenclosed you just a talentless idiot

  • @creez34

Paul could learn a thing or two from me, but his ego dictates that he insists on being a a "Bass Player". Which he isn't.

  • @glenclosed Where is your famous band where you allegedly play the bass guitar?

  • @zeromant80

Oh I think you'd know my stuff, don't worry about that.

Maybe not though, if you think McCartney is a good bass player, you wouldn't be familiar with my music. Bit more advanced I think.

McCartney isn't a bass player at all, in my opinion

  • @glenclosed again, where is your stuff?

  • @zeromant80

My stuff is my own, but it's there for all to know about.

  • @glenclosed Are you serious?! You're actually serious?!?!? The man just happened to be the bass player in the greatest rock group ever...what more could he POSSIBLY need on his resume? Next you'll say Tom Brady was not a great quarterback, it was the system he was in. You need serious help (and some security pills!)

  • @komposer514 best rock band ever?

Yea that's a really cool rhythm section going Paul and Ringo !!

Anyway, Joe Montana and Victor FTW baby!!

  • @glenclosed -- I'm not a huge P.M. fan ---- but he is the king of BASS-- U MAY BE TECHNICHALY better -- but write a bass line that is as melodic as "while my guitar gently weeps " or " something" & post it --- then dare to tell me ur better than he is ! U IGNORANT fk

  • What song is that at the end?

  • What song is it?

  • @LonelyScorpio1000 Ever Present Past.

  • He would play alot better if he plucked with fingers not his thumb

  • paul mccartney is truly one of the best bass players of all time plus his ability to sing and play was amazing

  • @creez34

Obviously never heard of Mark KIng or Les Claypool

  • @glenclosed i said one ob the best you idiot

  • @creez34

He's not a bass player anyway, so your point is moot.

  • @glenclosed wtf are you talking about mccartney was the bassist in the Beatles as well as his solo and wings career can't believe you didn't know that

  • @creez34

    I know all that.

He was the bloke in the band who happened to own a bass. Anybody can buy a bass guitar, doesn't mean he's a bass "Player".

Adam Clayton happens to own a bass too.

McCartney is a crap bass player.

  • Paul is a bass player, and he didn't just own it, he played it. also he is a great bass player.

  • WHY

  • LOOK HOW THOSE FINGERS MOVE!!!! LOVE those fingers.

  • Omg this is too funny! Paul is toooo adorable :)

  • Respect!

  • he play "left" but i play "right" hahaha!!!

  • whats the name of the song??

  • @THEDUD420 Everpresentpast is the name.

  • The one time McCartney sits down and demonstrates one of his lines and it's all roots! Oh, sweet irony! >: /

  • @olflatop Yea, it's too bad... maybe though he thinks all his bass stuff is just simple walking from one root to the next, and he doesn't realize he has a unique melodic sensibility behind it.

  • @olflatop seriously!

  • I played bass with Paul Mccartney using the same 62' Bass he used

  • We have 52 who need Help!

  • Saint Paul.

  • Any one else thinks the rhythm is kinda like Mary Had A Lamb.

  • @o99ou yeahhhhhhh....i felt like frustrated...i was expecting a lot better............

  • @o99ou yeahhhhhhh....i felt like frustrated...i was expecting a lot better............

  • this isnt paul..

  • Real bass oplayers don't use a pick

  • I got lured in here, thought I was gonna enjoy some Stevie Riks....

  • I bought my bass 30 minutes ago, this is the first, well, second song, I ever learned on bass =D

  • He is why I play bass with a pick. Rock'n'Roll Paul McCartney!

  • @berniebroad1.

Paul usually plays bass with a pick, I think he just used his thumb so you could see what he was doing.

  • whats the song name? anyone!

  • @Dsosa93 ever present past

  • @Dsosa93 ever present past

  • He was cracking me up with the way he said C and D minor and stuff. Haha, I loveeee him. People tell me I look like he did in his The Beatles days.

  • WOW> He does it with such ease. Dear Pauliee, how do you expect us to learn your brilliance in just 3 minutes? :)

  • Listen to Lovely Rita and try and tell me he doesnt know how to play bass.

  • i do not think a "Bass Master" would use his thumb to play fingerstyle

  • @berniebroad1 Lol true. He was an amazing song writer. Flea is a Bass Master for sure.

  • Blah Blah Blah.....Bass players!! we all know McCartney is not that technical. He's a song writer and music is about creation and not technical ability.

  • If I knew a young kid thinking of taking up bass, I wouldn't let them watch this rubbish.

What makes McCartney think he can teach bass when he can't play himself ? Huh?

  • @glenclosed if you don't like paul mccartney as a bass player then get the hell off this page!

  • @glenclosed - So true! The world needs fewer Paul McCartneys and more glencloseds. You, sir, are AWESOME!!!

  • @GlorifiedTruth

    There's only one Glenclosed.

Unfortunately there are lots of people claiming to be bass-players, when they are clearly not. Adam Clayton for starters...

  • what master? he is not a maestro at playing ability

  • He is Jesus reincarnation!!

  • @beatlesloversprims dont be stupid

  • i almost forget he is like 60 years older than me.

    paul is awesome

  • CMON BABY

  • George was too soft,John was too acidic,Paul was always perfect for me,both musically and as a person..

  • @onlyjoetee

George, John, and Ringo are equal musicians to Paul. Paul is a perfectionist, a bit less "free" than the others. He's still awesome, like the rest of The Beatles.

  • @JohnLennoninmyGuitar equal doesnt mean the same, what im saying is that musically and personally McCartney appeals to me more than the others, tho i love the beatles as a unit!!What the hell does "less free" mean!!LOL There is no such thing as perfection in art,you just do the very best you can till it feels right, thats all

  • @onlyjoetee

I'm not talking about his skills as a musician. He is arguably the best musician that is alive. It's his personality is what gets me. True, equal does not mean the same. John and Paul are two different songwriters, but the way they worked together was true bliss. But as individuals, they are very different. If Paul is your favorite Beatle, that's fine, but if I had to choose a Beatle, its John.

  • @onlyjoetee

And about less free. I'm talking about his mindset. In the studio, it seemed Paul wanted to get things done without goofing off a lot of times. Sure sometimes he was goofy, but at other times he was being bossy. I'm not saying order is bad, he tried really hard to keep The Beatles together. But I see him as more serious than the others.

  • @JohnLennoninmyGuitar when you've got work to do,in any walk of life, that is not the time for goofing around!when the others were lying in bed, playing Hare Krisha and getting drunk,Paul was making album after album tour after tour!!in the studio, time is money literally, thats not the place for messing about at all!!that is why he became more successful than the others

  • @onlyjoetee

Just because hes alive doesnt mean he is more successful than the others. They knew they had to work their hardest on their first recording session. After than money came flowing in from the UK and Europe. They still had to work and tour as hard as they were on Please Please Me. Still they had good laughs in the studio and on stage, even after touring in the US. It was their studio years, Paul still wanted to tour. He still had the touring mentality.

  • @JohnLennoninmyGuitar Paul McCartney is the most successful songwriter in the history of pop music!!!

  • @onlyjoetee

Ok ok. Still, if I had to chose a Beatle, I'd pick John.

  • @JohnLennoninmyGuitar and if i had to chose a Fab,id pick Paul,a night with Paul & Linda or a night with John & Yoko?no contest LOL,im also a big Wings fan.Paul is also my Fav piano player in rock..

  • @onlyjoetee

I'd prefer a night with John and Yoko, only if they had some LSD xP

  • @JohnLennoninmyGuitar well,im into sports and health and i dont touch drugs, maybe thats the difference between us..

  • dminor umumumum c

  • @Rickdd2 Do you knwo what the song at the end(with video clip of his music video)?

  • is this video actually posted by paul!!

  • I love this man with all my heart!! I think he's the best!! I LOVE HIM!!!

  • Yay Paul!
