My bunny has white nails to she a mini lion head bunny the red part is there veins in there nails do yu don't trim the red part it will bleed if yu do.
Thank you! :) with your advice the rabbit was fine and we did it! :)) We were very careful and just cut the very ends, not to cut the area with blood supply. We just did it with our nail trimmers as we didnt have special ones and the rabbit didnt mind at all.
my rabbits nails are all upside down and blaauugghh. i havent cut her nails and i have had her for a year. is there and tips i could get on how to get her nails normal again?? i am REALLYY worried about her
i want to cut my rabbit's nail so bad. i have scratches all over my arms and legs every time i let my rabbit loose on the sofa beside me. his nails aren't as sharp as my cat's nails but its way too pointy and it really hurts. and i have a problem with my rabbit. whenever my rabbit gets near my hair, he always eats it whenever he gets a chance. how do i stop it?
I love the way rabbits noses twitch, my rabbit is so soft behind the ears it's like a childs sckin, ooh. I love her so much and she is so beutiful. her fur is like silk only softer and she hase the most sleek body and beutiful eyes ever, she's gorgiouse.
Damn it, I have cut a claw off my bunny, now she hase a stump, I feel awful. I want to go back in time and not do it, poor rabbit. I HATE it ehen I have acidents with my rabbits' one I let the two rabbits together when I was a kid, and my sisters rabbit bit a chunk out of my rabbits ear. I wish these acidents would never happen, my bunny is beutiful, and I love her so much. I need to get her vacined soon, Ill get my sister to do it, and ill pay her for it.
I've just injured my rabbit trying to cut her bloody nails, she keep biteing me and scratching me, so I put on some thick clothes and tried to cut her nails, but all she does is struggle and figit, now I have just injured her and she's bleading, and no-one is around to ****ing help me ) :< I'm so sick of being scratched and bitten, it's all she does now. And I was told these rabbits are excelent pets, bite bite biter grrr, scratch bite grrr.
Well what if the bunny gets his nail caught on a floor board of a bedroom?Like It stop bleeding, it only bled for not even a minute.Still his nails have been cut before we got hima week ago.Should we cut that nail that got hurt?In case it keeps bothering him?If anyone has any advice, for my bunny, please help.
Thank you so much for uploading this vid.It was really safe, and it really does work on rabbits. If they are stubborn don't cut there nails, until there calm or sleepy.
@videoaddict459 I just trimmed my rabbits' nails for the first time today. Making a bunny burrito saved my life! Not every rabbit likes being wrapped up in a towel though. Nina kicked and squirmed and it took a lot of petting to calm her down. At least the towel restricted her movement so that she couldn't wriggle out or scratch me to pieces (long-sleeved shirts are also a must). Binky, on the other hand was as good as gold. As always, it depends on the rabbit.
@Lizndax Thanks...Its hard to get at her nails when shes wrapped in a burrito tho :S ..i eventually just made a homemade harness with two socks and hair elastics :P so she was secure and her front paws were accessible. I had to enlist a second person to help with the back ones, but i wish i had a better method i could use on my own
love yr little bunny btw :) just want to ask... i hav 2 netherland dwarf rabbits and they both hav black nails. and im kinda afraid to cut them myself, (ive bought nail clippers) cause both there nails are black. its very very very hard to see "the quick" and i dont want to give my rabbit any pain if i accidently cut it. cause i basically cant see the quick. could someone pls reply with any advice plzzz!!!! i dont wanna hurt thumps and nibs!!! any advice that i get i will be truely grateful!!!!
@zeldahopper because our nails are flat and rabbit's are round so those nail clippers are specially made for animals. If you were to use regular nail clippers it could severely break your bunny's nails and cause him a lot of pain
@TrustNoFukah haha! u're right! the moment she whips out the clipper, calm bunny starts wiggling, shows a bit white eye, and licks her shirt politely xD
Tip for all of you: trance out your rabbit ( turn her over on her back and shell trance out although my rabbit struggles alot and they can easily snap their backs if they do so be careful. Next wrap them in a towel and for langostalobsterchica: take him to the vet and careful if they grow too much the hole toe will fall off with the nail!
im kinda scared to do this cuz my bunny gets scared of random stuff very easily and when i try to hold him with his back laying down he really freaks out
I just got my rabbit and his nails are so long that his feet are actually in pain. i've heard that the quick will actually grow over time, so I'm afraid to cut his nails... and I can't tell where the quick is with a flashlight. Suggestions?
so basicly half way? also i really want to get a lionhead dwarf do you know how they react to cutting nails? squrmish but do you think it is possible if we have 2 to 3 people? please reply :) thanx
Well, to all those who have trouble clipping their bunny's nails, you can choose to file them or take them out of the house in a harness to explore to wear their nails down. I also have a stubborn little bunny boy what doesn't like to have his nails trimmed but i still succeed! You just need more courage in doing so, goodluck!
my petstore doesnt supply the powder. and whenever i try to trim my bunny's nails, he goes bezerk and kicks. i am too nervous to try again because what if he kicks and i catch the quick?
Hi, I just want to say a big thank you to Shannon for helping and giving me advice on how to pick up my two bunnies. Both of my bunnies used to struggle and try to escape everytime I wanna pick them up but now with Shannon's help both my husband and I can finally hold them in our arms.
Thank you for your questions. It will be easier for me to reply with tips that will help you via email. All 28 of my rabbits stay still for nail trims, I can share how to accomplish this with your bunnies. Some of them never had much handling when I got them and were already several years old. Now they are very calm to handle and trim. Email me at the addy in my profile. Unfortunately I cannot post it in comments.
yeah I want to know how to have them so calm, my rabbit is so feisty I can barely grab a hold of him, the way I trim his nails when massaging him i cut the front ones. now the feet is where I have the most problem. he will not let me grab a hold of him.
My rabbits nails are long I want to cut them but I cant even hold them he jumps every where and wont stay still also will his nails be sharp do we have to file them ?
2 months is a good age to start. I'm sure they are quite sharp. A young bunny's nails can feel as sharp as needles. Just trim the very tips. Aloha - Dr. Shannon
Thank you for all the emails. I hope my tips have helped you and your bunny. With love, patience, commitment and consistency... your bunnies nails can be trimmed easily by yourself or with the help of someone holding them while you trim. ~^..^~

@Steviefan6 You should still be able to see them. One trick you can try is to do it near a lamp and if you can't see it, hold it up to the light.
