I am a 15 year old Non-Denominational Christian and I actually agree with you on a lot of stuff. I realize that religion does sometimes SUCK but other times its good to have people to go to like pastors and friends from the church(I work in the sound and lights so I know a lot of people there). But I do believe everyone should try to accept all beliefs and not hate so people can actually MOVE FOWARD as a society/species/whatever. Instead of this "you believe something different to me, shame on you! Prove your belief is true or prove yourself a fool!". It's just pissing people off. many non-hardcore atheist refrain from using the word "atheist" now a days, in my neighborhood, people who call themselves atheists are usually extremists while others just say they don't believe in a god, i don't know if its like that in your neighborhood just thought id spare some thought.
I used to think..'whats the harm in letting poeple believe in whatever they want to believe in' Now I realize there is a lot of harm. There are a lot of poeple out there that would literally kill poeple because they think thats what their god would want them to do. i don't really know how to reply to that. it's not that i hate the religious, i just hate god based religions (i have a friend who's Buddhist, but she doesn't believe in a god). and as far as the 'moderates' go, like i said, i don't care if people are religious or not. others have their own opinions, i have mine, and i try to respect that to the best of my ability.
on a side note; i too celebrate christmas, and easter ;) go figure, right?
its not run by one religion, it should be run by multiple beliefs (including the belief in no god) , since its technically the opinions of the people thats what it should be governed by, thats we vote, if you don't like the canidate's religious beliefs go against them, but don't just ban religion from government, have government accept all of them.

@Chey52Drew In reality many people do act a certain way and go to church twice a week and give money to the church thinking that's gonna save their soul, but then go home and beat their children. True Christians and people who really believe and care about each other will do the right thing because they want to. Unfortunately doing the right thing is becoming less and less common. I wish society would feel less like they need to do the right thing and more like they want to do it.
@Chey52Drew I agree, but I think that religion helps introduce us to morals and ethics that many of us otherwise wouldn't take seriously. I believe that people who don't believe in anything are just opening themselves up to the idea and lifestyle following that if there is no god then nothing matters and we may as well do whatever we want and act however we want while we can (which honestly sounds like a world of chaos). The reason I suggest that you consider that there are Pagan traditions to celebrate Christianity is because this is strong evidence that religion was created from culture instead of divine intervention. It is amazing that religions will misconstrue concepts to "get them to believe!!!" Bunny and eggs were never meant to celebrate the"resurrection of the Lord". They were used as symbols of fertility/life for spring to bring in the beginning process of good crops. But once again an ideal that is good is stolen by a damper way. :(
I was raised a christian but really I don't believe in any religion. I believe in what science has proven. and most of the time it goes against what different religions want you to believe. I'm not saying that there wasn't a jesus or any other person/people that are connected to religious history. I believe there is a scientific explanation for everything. I do think it's important to get married in a church though. I think it's not so much a religious thing as a tradition thing.

I'm Wiccan and I hate when people think it is Satanic. The pentagram doesn't not=Satan. Just as the cross, it only equals ANYTHING bad when flipped upside down. Also, these people "sacrificing" people and saying it is because they are Pagan...no. They're people who want to kill. Because not a lot of people understand Paganism or have misconceptions of it, they blame is on Paganism. Why do people care so much about what another person believes in? I'm a Christian personally but I don't hate on someone just because they're an athiest. It doesn't really affect you in how another person believes because in the end they're resposible for themselves and what they believe in. We can just agree to disagree and still get along and be friends. I think everyone should be entitled to their own beliefs/religion or whatever.

Being an atheist is the lack of belief that god exist. It's very important to note that this is not necessarily the same as believing god does not exist. One is a positive assertion which requires proof and it's impossible to prove god doesn't exist, so that's silly. Far too often I see people confuse the two. It's quite sad to see as a philosophy major.

Yeah, I watched it too.. amazing video, and all theories make sense, which is a plus side to the directors. Truly amazing movie, specificaly due to the way people often use religion to explain their sensless, imoral actions towards those of different faiths. @Chey52Drew In reality many people do act a certain way and go to church twice a week and give money to the church thinking that's gonna save their soul, but then go home and beat their children. True Christians and people who really believe and care about each other will do the right thing because they want to. Unfortunately doing the right thing is becoming less and less common. I wish society would feel less like they need to do the right thing and more like they want to do it.

I believe that people who don't believe in anything are just opening themselves up to the idea and lifestyle following that if there is no god then nothing matters and we may as well do whatever we want and act however we want while we can (which honestly sounds like a world of chaos). Well I don't exactly pactice Easter, to say, or any major holiday that is on the 'normal' calander. Being Esoteric Wiccan- meaning I take what feels right, while still using the outline of wicca- I keep mostly to the sabbats. The closes Sabbat to easter would be Eostre.

It is amazing that religions will misconstrue concepts to "get them to believe!!!" Bunny and eggs were never meant to celebrate the"resurrection of the Lord". They were used as symbols of fertility/life for spring to bring in the beginning process of good crops. But once again an ideal that is good is stolen by a damper way. :(

I was raised a christian but really I don't believe in any religion. I believe in what science has proven. and most of the time it goes against what different religions want you to believe. I'm not saying that there wasn't a jesus or any other person/people that are connected to religious history. I believe there is a scientific explanation for everything. I do think it's important to get married in a church though. I think it's not so much a religious thing as a tradition thing.

Why do people care so much about what another person believes in? I'm a Christian personally but I don't hate on someone just because they're an athiest. It doesn't really affect you in how another person believes because in the end they're resposible for themselves and what they believe in. Being an atheist is the lack of belief that god exist. It's very important to note that this is not necessarily the same as believing god does not exist. One is a positive assertion which requires proof and it's impossible to prove god doesn't exist, so that's silly. Far too often I see people confuse the two. It's quite sad to see as a philosophy major.

I believe that there is some sort of higher power that does, and/or did exist at one time. But I do not believe that there is life after death, nor do I believe that this "higher power" could care less about us.

phil i agree with you. religious people are crazy shit and it's funny to poke at them. however, i don't know if you've ever read the book the shack, but it's truly an eye opener, and it's where i got my principle, relationships not religion. religion is just someone's way of figuring out a way of presenting gods love so they make money. end of story.

You should watch the movie Man From Earth, its about a man who lived ever since the stone age. Its a movie that is nothing more then a conversation lol. Over all when it comes to religion... I'm just anti-religion... I have no problem with peoples having faith in whatever they want to believe in, Its the pushing of converting others i tend to have an anger twords lol.
Meh, maybe one day we can accept others for whatever god others want to believe in.

Yeah, I watched it too.. amazing video, and all theories make sense, which is a plus side to the directors. Truly amazing movie, specificaly due to the way people often use religion to explain their sensless, imoral actions towards those of different faiths. Nice to see people who share a reflective view on society rather than just believing what some random guy in a robe would tell you too.

I know an atheist, but I also convinced him in a 10min debate that Ferrari was spelled Ferarri, while he was wearing a Ferrari hat and internet in the next room. My point is he is atheist purely because he chooses not to investigate anything and eventually agrees with the stronger argument, even when its completely false. But you have never met somebody so opinionated on the science vs religion argument. He even "air quote's" non factual information like he read it somewhere. Im with you phillyd
