  • I added this vid to my favorites.

  • ah, crossing the street in China without dying. Good times.

  • oh my god, ill definitely go back to Chengdu during the winter break!even just for one week!

  • nice video and music very good

  • Such a great city. Every time I leave, can't wait to get back. Great city, great people and great food :-p

  • Fuck me, I shouldn't have left that city.

    成都,我非常想你

  • I miss Chengdu...

  • i miss chengdu so much..i wanna go home...it's such a dream land now for me as EPIC said...

  • You seem to be everywhere in Asia. I am a little bit curious about your encounter with Chengdu though. Most people don't know this place unless they study chinese. i mean, did you study there or some programs for exchange? I apologize for asking many personal questions. my school is cooperating with me to create some intership in Chengdu, so I am kind of wondering this.

  • I moved to Chengdu in 2005 becuse I wanted to live in China, and I spent two years there, with a year in Montreal in between. In 2008 I moved from Chengdu to Bangkok, which is where I still live. I didn't study in Chengdu, I worked as a teacher there.

I hope your internship creation goes well. Good luck ;)

  • see, I am always interested in people's motivation of moving to another totally different culture, mainly because that is exactly what I want to do. I mean, how do you put yourself into an environment just like that?

  • strange but cool music, how did you come across it?

  • It was a really popular song in China a few years back, around 2005-2006. There's a Mandarin version as well as the Mongolian one, and that one would often play in stores and on the radio.

  • cool, i think most of the best music I've heard out of China and Thailand is indigenous elements blended with modern stuff. You know Bird Thongchai, he does a good job with this in his album village. any suggestions to similar chinese tunes?

  • PS just saw ur profile, i spent some time in china, then went to bkk, now i live in montreal... originally from winnipeg. i see some overlaps :p

  • Yeah, definitely. You've never met a girl named Francie Fishman, have you? She's from Winnipeg, spent some time in Thailand, and lived in Montreal for several years...

As for Chinese music, I don't have any advice for you, sadly. I just don't know much of it, and like anywhere, there's a lot of bad pop to wade through to find gems, which I haven't put time into doing.

  • @matthewvaughan sorry for the late reply... went to thailand for a month ^v^

Nope, don't know this francie person.

    What's new?

  • Sweet vid bro. Man..... this music is awesome! Where do you live now?

  • Thanks a lot. I've been living in Bangkok for a year now, but I'll be visiting Chengdu again for a week this Christmas. I really miss it. Where are you in China?

  • I'm in Seattle now, but I'm going back to China in February for school in Chengdu at Xinan caijing daxue, have you heard of it?

  • Heard of it, but didn't know where it was until I just looked it up on Google maps. I've never done much outside second ring road on the west side of town, where it is, but just inside second ring road, there are some beautiful parts of town around Qing Yang Gong (green ram temple). Huan hua xi park 浣花溪公园 is not far from there, and that's one of my favourite places in Chengdu. So, yeah, that's really cool. Have fun, man.

  • yeah it is in oppsite to my college!!

  • does anyone know if this is a mongolian horse head fiddle or if this is the chinese san xian or er hu

  • que canción más bonita!!

  • went back this summer for vacation.

now i miss it dearly, i'm begging my mom to let me go back again.

  • Oh my gosh! The place where you started the trip is my home! I'm now in the US and I miss it so much!

  • Comment removed

  • oh man the memories. i lived in chengdu for 2 or so years going to MSIS...

this really brought back memories. thanks :D

  • I'm glad! And thank you. I miss it too, although I finally get to go back for a visit this Christmas.

  • Chengdu is an awesome city. Looking forward to my next trip there and seeing some of the sites nearby like Emei mountain and Leshan.

  • How do I download this song?

  • I'll send it to you, if you want.

  • I'm looking so much to come to Chengdu for two years of Chinese studies. I will not miss my native Switzerland. I wish to become fully integrated into Chinese culture and be only mindful of the well-being of the Chinese.

    It's a real blessing...

  • I can't help to comment something. I am from Chengdu. I am college student right now in Unites States. I study Anthropology and that gives me a lot of chance to travel around the world for research. I am planning to go to European countries including Switzerland next summer. But I have to say, as much as I disguise Chines government, I also love Chengdu so much and I haven't found a one that is even close to it now. it is just...a dream world.

  • Two cities have been selected as "the city with the highest happiness and most value" in china, officially. and Chengdu is one of them. Chengdu is also selected as the "best tourist city".You never get to see people hurrying something, like those in shanghai or beijing. They are always moving with half a pace slower. It is just a paradise. We should be friends, so one day I might meet you there and show you some sides of Chengdu that you will really love.

  • me and my wife spent a week in Chengdu When we adopted our daughter. It is a great city and the people were very nice. I recongnize the one panda monument at the intersection was right by our hotel. Anyway, if you can get to China, go to Chengdu. And don't miss the Panda preserve while you are there. Thanks for the video, xiexie.

  • Thanks for the comment. I watched your photo montage on YouTube: very sweet. Good luck with everything.

  • chengdu's nightlife looks beautiful too :)

actually, its probably better looking, haha...

  • This place looks awesome I have watched a few videos on Chengdu I am thinking of heading there at the end of the year!

  • 歌真TM难听

  • I just simply love it!! Can't wait to go back and film one too. I want to link this on facebook. It is an awesome video!!

  • Damn... its a beautiful song, dude...

  • China is actually one of the best countries to visit for great agriculture's. btw awesome video.

  • Cool video, its a bit old tho as Tian Fu Square has now been completed. Was it filmed with the camera on your head or in your hand, and were you on an E-bike?

  • It was on a regular pedal bike, holding the camera in one hand. Yeah, it was before TianFu square's completion, at the very end of 2005. I like the new TianFu square a lot, although I can'twait until the metro actually starts running underneath. That will be great.

  • CHINA:

a country that is prosperous and free!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • :'D

  • It's not a slang. You can use it everywhere when talking in Chinese. "ke qi(客气)" is a short way for "bu ke qi(不客气)". "le(了)" is a modal particle.

  • "ke qi le" means "bu ke qi"

  • keqi le.

  • The background music is a mongolian song.

Singer is 布仁巴雅尔;name of the song is 吉祥三宝

  • Sounds like Brother Father Mother Sister: by Tim Maia.

  • Chengdu is way more laid back than Beijing, which isn't to say the drivers are any more skilled or courteous, but they 慢慢走, as the saying goes. Thus, I think your fear/anger is unfounded here.

  • whats the title of the song in the background cuz it rocks!

  • nice video,, really like it, bring back old memories when I was there 2004... it really nice city indeed and great food.... keep up the good work.

  • I am so glad You love my city!!!

sometimes I'd always think that maybe someday I will bring my friends all over the world to my city and give them a deep look to the food culture and the life pace there.

  • Thank you so much,Matthew!! Your biking route was exactly my way from school to home when I was in high school. I miss that golden time. the music just perfectly matches my feeling now. I am sitting here in a remote place in Ohio. But your video leads me directly back to my home.

By the way, I like your biking stlye. I did the same crazy thing when I was riding back to home.

  • I'm so glad! Where did you go to school? And where did you live? I just moved out of Chengdu two months ago and I miss it (not that I don't enjoy where I am.)

  • I lived in hebinyinxiang, right next to Wangjing Park. and I attended No.9 high school. SO I usually went this way. It was a little bit crowded, but I just love to see people. Your video are perfect

  • Awesome video!!!

  • Compared to my home down Beijing, Chengdu looks so ugly and poor.

  • stupid Bejing resident!

you know nothing about life itself.

A city's beauty comes from its internal attractions, not from its external appearance.

  • Yeah, that was pretty uncalled for, tinadixiechick. I'm glad Beijing makes you happy, but there's no need to put others down. It smacks of "being a jerk".

  • dude,get a life...don't shame China....some beijing people are braggadocio...annoying

  • the foods even better

    than the view

  • now is that possible?

  • the food in chengdu

is worth the time and effort

    to search out and discovery

    the cooking in that town

    is better than the french

  • That's spectacular...

  • omfg...been there

  • hey i visited some of these places, chengdu is the nicest city i have ever seen

  • Really? OOOOOOOH,I am so proud of it.

  • i love this city and my gf

  • well..ok,

  • I wanna say exactly the same words you said.

  • i just love chengdu. it's such a great city:)

  • HOME!

  • Free tibet my ass. The dalai lama is a terrorist. He and his cult can go to hell.

  • ur so right

    lots of thumbs up :)

  • how do you manage to drive to well while recording and with so many people crossing your way?

    amazing

  • it's a place of joy and sorrow...

whatever it's taken a big part of my life

  • thanks matt!

  • i miss you

  • very nice ye!~ missing Chengdu so much!

  • please tell me the name of the song and the artist

  • 不错不错~

  • But why Mongolian song? There're tons of Tibetans down there in Sichuan, but virtually no Mongols.

  • Because it is a famous pop song in China

  • MADDD STUFF!

i definitely goin chengdu! szechuan is da place to be =D

  • 哈哈,给成都人顶起哈,哦耶

  • great job! I love Chengdu!

  • #1. Thanks!

#2. No, I just rode with one hand.

  • Hi, man, ride with only one hand, good job done. By the way, I am in UESTC.

  • Me too!! I was studying there before.

  • haha~~ you didn't punished by the traffic policeman?

  • piaoliupingzi, 你是成都人吗? I don't think it's so unusual to bike like that...

  • 呵呵,我的幽默失败了!!是的啊,你也是啊,我爱成都

  • i guess there was another guy or girl sitting at the back of the bike and shooting...anyways, good work.

  • nice

  • nice work!

  • great job! a funny video. How could you do that riding on a bike? The video quality is surprisingly good.
