The more I do the more I love it. The atmosphere surrounding their sound on it is hypnotic. It's the first Arctic Monkeys album that one can have sex to.

I don't think their songs have lost energy. I mean, a lot of their older songs seemed to have some sort of ADHD to them, like they were just having fun and had a LOT of energy. (I don't think that's a bad thing. That's what I like about AM). I just think they took away the ADHD but left the energy. Their music has grown up. I bet some songs on Humbug will be fun, though.

Who cares if they go mainstream? They will make more money that way. And more money means more tours and more albums. The new stuff is much different from previous albums but they said in interviews that they purposely took a spin on it to sound different and have a more "darker" feel. They said they were influenced by Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, and Cream while writing Humbug. But they still play a lot of the oldies at their shows like "From the Ritz to the Rubble" so it's good for everyone :)

i respect your opinion, but i would say that if anything, Humbug has gone the opposite of mainstream. the songs are darker, and it would be pretty odd to hear crying lightning in something like the top 40 charts.
