  • Tina Martin is my dance

    teacher!!

  • I can't imagine how hard it must be to memorize such a long choreography and then perform it from the beginning to the end without getting confused and lose oneself.

  • Very fine choreography beautifully executed and faithful to Stravinsky's vision. I could have lived without the double tours en l'air. Nothing wrong with them, but here, I think, double anything violates Stravinsky's intention. This so brings the Bolshoi out of the late 19th century into the late 20th. Don't get me wrong, I love Tchaikovsky, etc. but it's too easy to slip into decadence if you ignore the new. The audience perhaps needs time to adjust to a piece in a style so new for them.

  • Wonderful and very unsettling. The somewhat slower tempo creates a very omnious feeling. There is a wonderful abbreviated depction of the original performance and the "riot" that occured in the opening few minutes of the movie Coco and Igor. An must see film for all Stravinsky fans. Not sure about the historical accuracy but very entertaining non the less.

  • Brilliant!

  • 100 years from now, it will be possible for the prima ballerina to dance this role in the nude.

  • NICE SHOW ........

  • is this from le sacre du Printemps?

  • I'm so glad to see that tina martin has decided to open a studio .

  • she's a tank :)

  • WAT ENERGY BRAVO BRAVO !!

  • Bravo but next time why not low down the weirdness

  • I think this is the first Ballet video on youtube I have ever watched, and although I know not much of the art, I have to say this is quite impressive.

  • The premiere, which caused a riot, was in Paris and the music is by Stravinsky and of the same name as the ballet. Hope this info. helps.

The video was a vicious interpretation and the chosen girl's desperation really came out. Tina Martin was superb. I've seen the original with the Royal Ballet and they're both so very different that I like them both equally. I've also seen Bejart's on YouTube and I like that as well.

I agree with ikshields about the audience!!

  • Not as earthy as Pina Bausch but very very good non the less.

  • Stravinsky - Rite of spring. Caused a scandal when staged for the first time in Russia.

  • I think it was in Paris that it was staged the 1st time..

  • True. Premiere in Paris by Ballets Russes.

  • what is this music ?

It is absolutly fantastic. Anyone knows the name?

  • Rite of Spring

  • It reminds me the great choreographer Kylian...

  • Fabulous Rite ! ... Appealing Show on tragedy of our life

  • I'd love to see this live. It's hard to feel that the dance ever matches the raw energy of IS's writing though. Maybe in the concert hall that would come through more. But amazing, virtuoisic dancing.

  • How old is the ballet? Looks like the 70`s?

  • Glad i found this, wonderful version of Rite. I googled Tina Martin's name after discovering that she had been nominated for the Benois award a couple years ago, for this role. Very rare acomplishment just to be nominated; usually you have to be a prima at ABT or NYCB to represent the U.S.

  • I liked very much this video, I mean the coordination is great, although I prefer Niijinsky's version and Bejart, although I liked it a lot !! =)

  • Wonderfully savage choreography for the "Rite" -- right on!!

The audience, though, should have been fired and replaced for a tepid smattering of ungrateful applause like that... this deserved a roar of ovation, particularly for Ms. Martin.

Sometimes audiences deserve a rigorous spanking from their mothers, let's face it!

  • Well thank you so much for your kind comments - I will tell Tina and she will, I am sure, be thrilled. I cannot, of course, comment on your statements about the audience (for the obvious reasons, but I'm feeling you lol)

  • lol.....

Completely understood. But it does make me wish we could give you guys a quick "tractor beam" to the ballet stage here in San Francisco, so you could feel the luv from a sold-out, truly ballet-crazy crowd.

    It is that good. :)

    Cheers.

  • (searching Google for Helgi Tomasson's phone number... lol....)

  • @ikshields I couldn't agree more!!

  • I really like this piece! She's such a beautiful dancer!

  • I really like this interpretation... it is so hard to find a good I have looked everywhere. I am in music apreciation in college and The

Rite of Spring is a piece we are studying....so this helped me visualize it better and my professor is going to show it to our class today so thank you!

  • Can someone please tell me if there exists a more "classical" piece choreographed to this music? I'm not really a modern fan (not that it's bad, it's just not my thing really), but this is my favorite piece of Stravinsky music, so I was hoping that something existed... thanks! :D

  • I'm afraid that if you are looking for a more "classical ballet" version, it probably doesn't exist - the piece was very avant-garde when it was created and has mostly remained so. You could try some of the older, bigger ballet companies for their versions though :)

  • However, you could watch the recreation of the Nijinska version because he was the original choreographer

  • Even the original choreography was out there. No such thing as a classical or traditional ballet to this piece.

  • Is there around the entire show?

(i've heard even the other parts are awesome)

  • I believe it is in the repertoire of several companies. The only way to see the full piece is to catch it in live performance. Check companies for the choreographer, Mauricio Wainrot. It is his version we perform.

  • thanks will serach for it...about catch you guys in live it will be a bit problematic but who knows? :P

  • The ROyal Ballet did this better.......

  • Thanks for the opinion! I haven't seen their version, but am quite fond of ours :)

  • AHHH didn't mean to offend! Didn't realise this was your company! I did really enjoy it! Just preferred the one I saw, but yours is ver very nice! Like the styling, and the fluidity! You should be proud!

  • Is there a video of the opening parts of this ballet. I'm curious to see more of this interpretation because this part is brilliant.

  • Please see my response to the above question about the whole version. Thanks for the comment! :)

  • @cleomagoolando

Thanks for your coments. I am Mauricio Wainrot, the choreographer of Rite of Spring. Tina was wonderfull.

    take care

    Mauricio

  • I love Ballet Florida!

The best and freshest dance company around!

Ms. Martin is truly one of the world's greatest dancers.

  • Hey George, It´s been very helpfull this video, I got hired last month by the Teatro San Martin´s ballet Company directed by Wainrot and actually had to learn this version on Rite of Spring, Nice recording, greating from Buenos Aires!!!

  • just amazing!!! what recording of rite of spring is this?

  • Thanks for the review :) It's actually the recording of a live orchestra - we use them when we can for live performance :)
