Thank you so much!!! You explained this better than my anatomy teacher, who drives me crazy because she can't teach for crap. I like the way you simplified it =0)
@EvilEyEbRoWzz Most people consider both acceptable and interchangeable though there has (and continues to be) debate, e.g. " “NEURONE” OR “NEURON.” ", W. M. Bayliss, Br Med J. 1916 June 24; 1(2895): 888.
A myelin sheath is an 'outgrowth' of schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) ONLY and can only provide a segment of myelin sheath around a single axon whereas in the central nervous system (CNS) myelin sheath is provided by oligodendrocytes, which can provide myelin sheath around many axons (up to 40 or 50). Additionally there are neurons without a myelin sheath. (Oligodendrocytes and schwann cells are types of glial cells).
sir can u explain me about neural crest cells ,neuro blasts, development of neural tube.please explain me CNS from Langman's book of embryology.I would be thankful to you.
You are correct in that the nodes of Ranvier are named after the man who discovered them. However, they are not pronounced "ran - veer". Rather, it is pronounced "ron - vee - ay" after the French histologist Louis-Antoine Ranvier.
thanks!!!!! may I suggest an upload of how neural networks work (process information in our brains)) **** I'm more of a visual learner and you do such a great job
I just took my Finals in Neuroscience 1. Hope I found your videos earlier because their all very inforomative and simplistic. Easier to understand as well.
Good video - just one thing. The myelin sheath are Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system, but in the central nervous system, they are oligodendrocytes. There are a few differences between them (oligodendrocytes are inhibitory and wrap around multiple axons), though the principle is the same.
Great video! Just wanted to point out that myelination is done by Schwann cells only in the peripheral nervous system. In the central nervous system, the task is done by oligodendrocytes.
Does this Kahn guy know "everything"? He must be one of those genius types that hears or sees something, immediately comprehends and absorbs, then can pontificate like an expert. Life must be a breeze--sigh.
The Biology series is by far, at least to me the most interesting playlist. Not too detailed, but advance and clear enough to understand the basic function of a system. thanks :)
The circle things are the Myelin Sheath right? I just want to make sure because I have a G.A.T.E neuron project to do.
