It looks like MANMANW! was holding something behind to block all those Red Shells. WHy couldn't Red Shells strike from the side like they did in Mario Kart DS? This type of defensive driving makes items a lot less powerful (except the Blue Shell).

My ranking's taken a hit a couple of times, but for the most part it has been going up largely.

Red Shells can hit you from the side, it's happened to me a couple of times online, but red shells are no longer as effective as they used to be online due to you being able to hold items behind you now. Which can be annoying because the best players out there are very good with the Bowser Bike, basically the fastest bike in the game and there's no possible way to catch em except for a blue shell.

Which is why I was a bit let down that you can hold items behind you. I had been practicing Green Shell sniping since Mario Kart 64, and this mechanic makes it useless. It was hard enough in Mario Kart DS with the snaking and all, but this gets rid of the equal status between driving skill and item skill.

I suppose that's why the Blue Shell is still here. It's the only safeguard against one person zooming away into 1st place forever.
