My dog buster is a cocker spaniel mix bishan dog who loves to walk, eat, play with his girlfriend..... The only thing he has problems with is begging, mostly nervous, afraid of people (male) not female because he loves them. Anyway he's a good dog and he is three years old
my cocker spaniel is only agressive to my other dog who is a poddle mix and they live with 2 other dogs a chihuahua mix and a germansheperd mix (all female). Before because we live with just the two I thought that maybe she was showing dominace so we ended up having to give each dog seprate attention. But when we moved in with my aunt and her two dogs there cocker still continued only becoming defensive to the poodle mix and usually only when we go outside. Does anyone know if this is normal?
Yeah my cocker spaniel is way too friendly with other dogs and people if hee is off leash and sees another dog hes run to it to meet it which can be a problem and when someones comes over he always jumps like crazy it takes him a while to calm down like other people said any tips hes 5 months by the way
@kattivega101 If you still have the same problems, because our dog still does it every now and then, when he is really excited about other dogs or people. we just pick him up, tell him te relax and be relaxed yourself too, so he doesnt get the vibe that we want to play.
@thebasedbarbie I don't know if you're still experiencing the same problems but mine is 5 months now and I tell everyone that comes in to ignore her and turn their back to her. when she's calmed down they are allowed to pet her. If he bites make the same hard noise with your voice and keep ignoring him. When you're allowed to pet him without any biting or jumping, give him a treat. Be patience cause they're stubborn! this worked with my dog, good luck!
my cocker spaniel gets super excited when he meets new people and its hard to calm him down because my guest are sometimes scared of him but he is not aggresive at all. does anyone know any tricks to get him to calm down when meeting or seeing people.
I wan't to by english cocker spaniel... but i have cocktail (bird) and i now that they are cheazing birds..... I just want to now can they live together??? plzz answer
I had a cocker spaniel great great dog but she pissed and crapped all the time in the house...... course I did excersize her daily walks all that but she still messed up in the house.... How do you train them to pee pee pads???????
@2497iscool dogs are related to wolves so are naturally pack minded
it is likely that your dog is showing it's dominance in the pack and a way to fix this is to show that you and your family members are higher ranked than the dog
there are many ways of doing this and you and the rest of your family will have to be consistant with these methods
cocker spaniels use to be hunting dogs...esp hunting ducks. so in an essence they were working dogs. but now, they are mainly nice and loveable pets. but i see that hunting instinct in my cocker spaniels.
Hi Eric, I noticed that you haven't been able to answer the other 27 comments but I'm hoping that you can help me. I just recently adopted a 9 month old cockapoo from a friend of a friend who ended up having allergy issues. we're struggling with crate training and excitable/submissive peeing. Are there any tips to help us-help her feel more secure and comfortable with us? Also-are there any other tips on how to end her excitable peeing other than toning down entrances and delaying them? Thanks!!
from my experience, they tend to pee when they are small...they will eventually learn when they grow older. what i usually did is tell them no in a bad tone and waive my finger and then take them outside. and yes, i also did try to calm her down before she gets too excited...and giving her enough attention is important. if not, she will continue to pee when excited.
i just love them all they are very sweet and let me tell you this babys are happy 24/7 omg they are so smart they love to go for a walk in the evenings and they sure love to be in the water i give them a bath at least 3 times a week my cockers are the best thing ever happen to me and im so proud to have them in my life
aww me too. i have 2 males and 1 female. mom daddy and baby. except they dont like taking baths. how did u get them use to baths... and why 3 times a week??
i love my babies they bring joy to my life and i love tto bring joy in theirs

His name is mylo and he is absaloute stunning. he is a great pet all round he dose'nt run away he listens to everything i say but i have 1 little problem. Mylo loves swimming in our local river so he is usualy thier during the week but when i decide to go home mylo refuses and starts barking. Hi there, i have a question. I have a male and female cocker spaniel and they had babies about 8 months ago. The male dog is now starting to get a little aggressive with them. How can I fix that problem. He is growling and tonight showed his teeth, badly. PLEASE HELP!!! I don't know what to do with him. I am afraid to eventually leave them together in the same room. Any suggestions???
my dog slikly{he is a pure cocker}he is just lazy lol XD he sleeps in my bed with me...ever seince he was a pup he has always slept on my head and chest lol XD (he is full gorwn now)lol he is cute and all but he loves to eat human food and jumps on people when they come in the door he loves to bark at everything <.< but he is my son in an way ill alway slove him XD
i have a 4 year old cocker spaniel and he sleeps in the bed with me and he always pulls on his lead and also barks when somebody passes help me train him he is a very good dog!!!!
i have a 2 years old Golden spaniel he is part springer spaniel part golden retreiver he is a nice dog but pees everywhere and my family loves him but doesnt love his wee in our house im an animal lover but i love canines most of all and an expert helped me learn about dog behaver but nothing works so if u have any ideas please help!
He skipped the most important element with cockers. They MUST be exercised. A 40 minutes walk each day will eliminate the behaviors discussed in the video.
I agree with you 100%. Cockers are sensitive dogs, They must be trained with positive reinforcement. If you train them right Cockers are amazing and extremely intelligent dogs. My cocker spaniel, Lucy, does agility. I'm told again and again how surprisingly fast she is. =D
our 8 month old male black CS is displaying territorial(?) aggression; starting in my daughter's bedroom, growling when i came in the door - he was banned - now doing the same in the very small hall we have - he wouldn't let me out of my sittingroom this morning - I'm going to film this next time it happens..and I wouldn't advise anyone to get a cocker spaniel until they know about rage syndrome - this one was from a reputable breeder. And no, she doesn't want this aggressive dog back.
Have you taken him to a vet to see if this is actually rage syndrome?
And another thing, rage syndrome occurs mostly in solid color cockers. :x Just a heads up for anyone planning to purchase a cocker, be careful. Especially if your thinking about getting a buff colored one.
We took him to a vet who clearly knew nothing about cockers or "rage". He is a solid colour, black; we've have to re-home with with a cocker rescue, Scotland as he began to attack me, guarding my daughter if I came into the room; we tested his thyroid; normal ; a behaviourist said its not a question of IF he bites, it's WHEN he bites. He's gone to a better home now in Oban Scotland with a lady who understands cockers and already has two rescued cockers.
Our family recently adopted a cocker spaniel puppy from another family. She had a major issue with submissive urination when we got her. However in just about two weeks we've been able to almost completely resolve the problem. She's very smart and really sweet but, like Eric said, any kind of harsh disciple only encourages her submissive behaviors.
Not all cocker spaniels do this, none of the ones I've owned have ever done this. :) If you get your cocker use to people at a young age, and stay calm when visitors come over, then you shouldn't have a problem.
im 14 i have a cocker spaniel hes name is butters hes good in the house how do i teeach him were he willl listen to my comandes outside, and do u know anything a bout cocker spaniel bird huntin?
im 13 and my cocker is the same exact way, good in the house, but when we let him off the leash outside he is normaly really good and stays with us but when he spots a bird he darts off!
Great, Eric. Love your videos. I have a cocker (for over a year now) and that peeing thing is bang on. What I've also found is that cockers are the most excitable little dogs ever. I've had to force myself to walk past the dog and ignore him when I come home to give him a little time to clam down before I say Hello, or else he just goes bananas.
The problem comes when others come to your door and your dog is jumping up all over them.
