This question pits my logical side against my emotional side! On one hand, it seems easy, the 7800 for its games and 2600 compatibility, and then a 130XE for all the 8-bit stuff with a little extra RAM for the things that use it. But then I think....I really am fond of the Jaguar! And I always dreamed of having a TT030 or a Falcon.
But in the end, since I will be stuck with just my choices for all eternity, I will say 7800 and 130XE. They just cover so many bases!
I'm quite a big fan of the heavy sixer myself (though the darth vader is quite nice too ;) and as for the computer, I'd have to go with the 600XL as it was the first Atari computer I ever got :D
Yeah I wanna say 7800 because it plays 2600 games but truth is I only have like 2 7800 games so I kinda wanna say an original woody like my 6 switch VCS because it's so much more classic looking! VCS and an 800XL I guess. Gotta have the 800XL but then again you can say most of the better ports on are the 800XL so why have the VCS? Why not have a 16 bit Atari too? Well I don't have any of those or any games! So yeah VCS and 800XL it is!
The 32 bit home computer Atari Falcon 030 was a beast but Atari wanted to plug its efforts into the Jag, which is ironic because the Jag sucked donkey. Ive got a Amiga 1200 but i would really like to find a Falcon 030 ive never seen one though.
Anyone who knows, knows you need an original Atari 800 (plays the most old-school games) and I'll take a Heavy Sixer because I hate the cartridge slot and looks of the 7800.
Having only tried the console many years ago I have to go with console, I believe it was the 2600, wouldn't mind getting hold of an Atari computer though.
Dude... can I say for me that ultimately if I could have a mint, original Atari 800 and an Atari Falcon (with a copy of Jeff Minter's 'Llama Zap') then I would be a truly happy camper. Now, you could argue that the 800 wasn't a console but it did take game cartridges... Yeah, I didn't think you'd buy it... still, worth a try. ;-) Okay for the console then I'd have to go with the 7800 just cause I could play all the 2600 stuff too I suppose.

@MN12BIRD Classic choices for sure!
MaximumRD 4 months ago
@MN12BIRD Heck if you have an 800XL, you don't even need any other Atari's. :)

I guess I'd choose a 7800 and an 800 to be old school. A Falcon would be cool too, but I prefer 8-bit gaming.

Hey Rob, Here's a puzzler. What would you consider the Atari XEGS? It's could be considered a game system or a computer!
Croooow111 4 months ago 2
@Croooow111 Hmmm good point. I'll say console 1st but with computer capability. I'll take it with either a console or computer in addition.

Easy for me as never encountered Atari systems much here in England. So going with the Atari Lynx and the Atari 520 ST. Two great machines!

That would have to be atari 2600 heavy sixer and the atari 800. They both play some of the best games atari has to offer.

Well it has to be the Atari lynx gaming on the go is so important to me.

Atari 7800 since it plays Atari 7800 and 2600 games. And my Atari 1200 XL since it's awesome.

Gotta be a 2600 Heavy Sixer and my 800XL. I like the XEGS but I simply love the looks of the 800XL :)

@potmej1 I recently replaced my 800xl and more recently got an 130xe, I prefer the ST like styling on the xe models.
