Cozy neat little stove ! Thats really good to take something thats going to be thrown away like that metal bucket and those empty paint cans and make something that can warm you great ideal !!!
Thank you. I added this to my page. I wanted somthing to show my viewers that anyone could make with limited tools to keep from freezing to death during a natural, man made or economic disaster. Something for the unprepaired. Sure, its unsafe. Its just less unsafe than below freezing temperature. Just keep the fire small... and maby invest in a carbon monoxide detecter. Ah, heck. Now I have to go buy one to not be a hipocrite. Where are my keys?.....
@willibill1 You're obviously a city slicker with no knowledge of wood stoves.. This is probably safer than gas heat. You're not stupid, youre just not used to the way wood burning handles. It's very safe, my house is heated by a coal stove we burn wood in as well. It runs literally 24/7, we don't put it out at night because if we do it's pretty cold when we get up! Gas heat is very unsafe and expensive... That's why I live in the country.
I built one very similar... With an old gas can from like the 40's and a rain gutter as my chimney! No door, it's propped up on about 12 cinder blocks. Keeps my shack warm for hours without even touching it.
No spark arrester on top of stack= roof fire..aerosol can next to flaming bucket= explosion...drier duct for vent stack= structure fire..nice idea, but use some better materials for the sake of safety.
we got that non-combustible dryer tube for our stove too - it combusted when to stove got super hot. One of my videos called stove test #1 shows this.
you can make me a stove next too! i am working on stuff with snoot coming out my nose is soo cold in my garge..i hate my trees in my yard i want to burn them.
Nice! I made a potbelly out of a 5l heineken minikeg, kind of a hobo stove, but I used a fencepole from a chainlink fence for the chimney. I use mine for a deck heater,so i don't face the same venting concerns you do. It's fun to do this stuff( and backpacking stoves as well!) Just watch you don't get caught in the trap of looking at every round piece of metal in the world as a potential stove! Addicting!
You might want to think also how to get sod out of your chimney. That has to be removed regularly. Also think about how to stop cold air coming in through your exhaust while you have no fire in your stove.
Great job. I'm making one as well using a old KeroSun kerosene can. I'm going to add a small soup can baffle so I can adjust the air intake. Also I'm using some old bricks to help hold the heat in the actual can.
Awesome little wood stove, great job! Add some thermoelectric generators to it and get some free electricity for your shop. There are some good thermoelectric generator videos on YouTube.
This is a great survival idea. Many people are and soon will loose the ability to afford heating their homes. This is a great option in a time of crisis especially because most of the items can be found without cost or a few $ at most. Great vid
I agree with Terrafirma and NCHiker: Like I said with the other vid, You need that draft. Also adding a grill there would make it more efficient when ashes won't suffocate it and the bottom wouldn't burn through so easily. Also loose that dumbbell and use cast iron plate or frying pan and you can cook also there.
thx...ya..i was thinkin bout finding a small oven rack i can cutup for a bottom so ashes could fall through. the vent/draft hole & i might make the exhuast hole larger. i thought of the stuff...just kinda got lazy...lol..i'll give ya'll an update when i do more to it
With a garden like yours no way could you be lazy. As for the rack for your stove I found small hibachi grills to work really well, and being made of cast iron they last forever.
They are making those portable tentstoves here in Finland. They're called kamina in Finnish. Check them out and you get an idea how to make one. In igloo you can't use one because a stove would melt an igloo.
Great vid man, It seems to work really well. I agree it may work better with some vents in the door, I bet that thing get cherry red when its burning hot. PEace
Great idea, Its always better to be warm then cold. Helps with the creative mind when your comfortable. I agree with TerraFirma369... adding a draft in front of the door would be a plus.
Good job! Have you thought about a draft with a control on the door, similar to a charcoal bbq? It should help you with the flame control and fuel consumption. Peace.
how do you do all of this stuff with your arm in a sling. You are good. If you dont mind me asking what happened to your arm? You have that sling on in every video i see you in.
Hey no problem man. Thx for making your videos. I have to say you educate me a lot and I enjoy them very much. Its good to see someone with your enginuity.
what happend to your arm? will it ever get better?
