What Kanye did with 808&Heartbreak was very risky with the auto-tunes and usage of drums and he managed to pull it off. To me, Graduation and Late Registration is way too mainstream compared to 808 where you see how talented Kanye really is. Most of the negative criticism is due to the singing rather than rapping style of Kanye.
