  • He running the same game, in the same room, on three different computers on three different OS!

  • Hey... Any more news?

  • Come on... COME ON.... I know you can do it! Release! Release!

  • Glad to see somewhere cares enough to work on this. Just bought D3 from GoG, and it can indeed be... troublesome to fine tune. Looking forward to 1.5 from ya

  • Woohoo D3.

  • I have a MAC OS X 10.5.8 is this patch ready to play my Favorite game on this system . Thank you , Philip

  • Windowed mode! I can't wait!

  • It hasn't died, I've just been super busy with work. If anyone wants to volunteer to help put together a Mac/Linux/windows installer I could probably provide them some unofficial binaries. Email me if interested.

  • @kevinbentley42 I sent you a mail a week ago that I'm still willing to help you (D.Cent from DescentBB) - maybe it landed in your spam folder. I am sure we can work something out - I already wrote a prototype of such a program.

  • @kevinbentley42 u should make a new multiplayer option like they did in redalret when its multiplayer fuction died

  • @kevinbentley42

D3 remains the greatest game ever played. It is a crying shame that the game could not be resurrected. I'm still hopeful that EA will run with D4, but it seems hopeless to continue dreaming.

The days of my 100,000 kills online are long over, and I miss them greatly.

    Long Live Descent!

  • @M0b1u5

    Ho. ly. shit.

M0b1u5 I haven't seen your alias in YEARS! Next you'll tell me that Xeon is still floating around here LOL

I am currently suffering a headache from replaying D3 on a 104" projected screen. The only thing I could possibly want from an official 1.5 patch is DirectX 9 calls under windows so I can use it with 3D Vision. That would take nausea induction to a new level, but it would be totally worth it.

I've tried many things to get it working with 3DV but no luck so far...

  • looks like project went dead again.

  • Hey, Kevin, Josh Foreman... remember the guy who did the textures for D3? So glad you're still working on keep the ol' girl alive. My kids are old enough to play it now so I'm trying to get it working on my new Alienware laptop. So far it looks like ass. But I just started poking around the D3 site. I tried the NOCD 1.4 patch and things look a bit better. Do you know if that patch gives you the 256 version of the textures I made?

  • So 1.5 is going to be completed instead ofthe oG version 5 years ago that failed miserably? This is great news! thanks Kev

  • Mr. Kevin Bentley,

I'm sure there are still many players of D-3 and I'm no exception, but wanted to thank you for all that you are doing in updating the game for later PC's. D-3 followers are still waiting for D-4 no matter the costs.

    Thanks!

I using a new and very powerful AMD XP Pro, which will load descent, but the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro joystick doesn't seem to work with the game anymore--even though I know the stick is fine. I'm wondering if getting a new joystick is the answer?

  • Update?????? Any further progress in the last 8 months? Waiting impatiently. :)

  • Omg, You are my hero. I love this game, and want to play it again, and if there is some active multiplayer going on these days, I want to be a part of it

  • another x86 mac user here dying!!! for this to come out! after quake decent series were my favorite!

  • Will you have widescreen support in the new patch (using the Loki Linux version here)? I'd love to play this game @ 1920x1080 instead of 1280x960.

  • Hey there Kevin! What's the word? Hope all is well!

  • I'm running ubuntu, guess I will have to wait for this patch before I can't start playing again =/ I'm looking forward to it!

Now how do linux users play D3 online if there is no vortex linux version?

  • Better OpenGL support would also be nice.

  • I'd like to see an option to make 32-bit color permanent in the game and the return of force feedback support (which was lost after the launch of WinXP).

  • Kevin, will you be involved with Descent 4's development?

  • hey is there people still playing the multy?? plz answer

  • @Lenangreal Yes, but you have to download a program called Vortex to play it because the old online servers are gone.

  • @jandsm5321 Hey, could you telll me more about this Vortex and how/where to get it?

  • @PimpMyLegos I don't know where I got it. I downloaded it years ago and finally installed it in the beginning of this year. There is a link to the Vortex homepage on the Descent 3 homepage.

  • I can't wait for this to come out, my friend and I do some WLAN with our netbooks, and he's running Ubuntu. Considering how I would like to have babies with Descent 3, I cannot wait for this patch.

  • Myself and a bunch of my Mac buddies are following this closely. Can't wait for it to be done. Shakerheads will be back...

  • Great stuff! Looking forward to play it. Keep up the good work!

  • Awesome work, man. Dunno if anyone requested this yet, but it would be cool if you could make a version compatible with widescreen aspect ratios.

  • Awesome! I miss this game. You know what I'd absolutely go bonkers for? Widescreen resolution support (kinda like what Croteam did with the recent Serious Sam HD release). How hard would that be to implement?

  • Are you going to be using any part of SuperSheep's and Grendel's anti-cheat code?

  • I looooove Descent... Aaaarrrgh, this makes me want to fork out the cash for a new joystick and start playing again...

  • So Mac OS X compatibility is part of the 1.5 patch? If so, how exactly will it work? If not, how did you get Descent 3 to work on OS X at all?

  • Yes, OSX (both power PC and x86) compatibility is part of the patch. There's a new installer that will install on Linux or OSX using the Windows or Linux CDs for data files (I'm not sure we'll have support for installing from the Mac classic CDs), but there will be all new executable code for the game.

The OSX port uses SDL just like the Linux build. All platforms are built from the same source, which will make compatibility easier.

  • Impressive! This might cause me to break into optimism, and dig my way back to desktop.

    Old D3 Pilot name = [RIP]Nightmare

  • Wow you have the source - can you do anything you want?

Can you factor out the third party stuff so the code could be released to public? Even setup a peer-reviewed open source type thing?

I bet a LOT of coders like me hold D3 as a great game that deserves more.

    ideas:

    one button maneouvers

selecting planes of orientation ( better autolevel )

being able to select a spot as an origin to 3d strafe around...

Lots of cool experiments to do...

  • Is 1.5 only going to improve on anti-cheat, or will there be other improvements/functions/goodies?

  • It is going to fix all major bugs, such as the checksum bug. It will have one source tree for all platforms.

  • Would love to see a linux version for ARM processors.

  • Very awesome! I can't wait to play this again!

  • Great to see! Looking forward to this!

  • Great to see that some improvements are coming to D3 after 10 years! Keep 'em coming if you please!
