If you want to hear sea creatures mating, you can go out onto the coast... or simply use the Metrorail and ride the escalators at Pentagon City! I need to go back to DC sometime!
I went to Washington last week, and they must have fixed these escalators, as the noise was gone. These are the ones in front of the complex with the Borders, Best Buy, Marshalls and Costco.
However, I did hear the funny noises on the outside ones at Union Station.
Very strange sound, i've never seen such loud escalator! In Moscow Metro there are some long (70-100m) escalators made in 194x-195x, but they are quiet.
damn, i forgot when they sounded like that, hurts the ears. They are fixed now, but still seem to be broken like half the time just like every other metro station. Then theres stations like rockville and grovesner that have one escalator thats been broken for like 2 years... fucking metro

It was the steps rubbing the skirts. They don't do it anymore, the problem was fixed.
