  • Try Fingerhut. They had some last week.

  • where in the heck can you buy these? none of my craft stores have them, and ebay only has one... an addi something for an arm, leg and firstborn.

  • @nightmiztrez Fingerhut has them for $50. Item #J7469. Just enter knitting in the search box.

  • Great demostration. Could you tell me is there any Patterns for using the Innovation machine? If there is could you give me the link/links for these

  • Thanks for the great video...i got my machine today...And watched this about 20 times...heeheee!

  • @JACQSIErae Oh,you will have so much fun! Let me/us know how it goes.

  • @Barb515 i keep dropping stitches

trying to be very careful, and following your instructions to a "T"

Does preventing dropped stitches, come with practice?

  • @JACQSIErae Dropped stitches are usually caused by uneven yarn tension. Puddle, puddle that yarn directly under yarn guide. I do thread my yarn tension device at least one ladder to keep the yarn in line with the guide. U need light tension to keep the yarn in good position to get picked up. Go slow for the first row or so. Pick up turning speed when the needles are picking up reliably.Try a different yarn. Some yarns have a little more stretch than others. Really watch needles PU yarn.

  • @Barb515 Thank You! your awesome! i'm headed to my spot, to give this a try

  • Thank you I will try it

  • I just ordered this machine did not get it yet but I would like to know if I could make a small blanket with this machine.

  • @TOOCHOCLATE50 Define small... You would have to sew knit panels or tubes together to get the width. The panel;s are 40 sts wide. With some color planning, you could create a lovely strip afghan. I would make it at least 5 panels wide or 7 tubes. If you have a small knitter, you could knit narrow tubes/panels or panels to alternate with the wider ones. Take care to knit them all the same length. If you crochet you could finish the edges in crochet, or fringe the ends.

  • i just got my machine in the mail....sooo excited!

  • I have been very pleased with mine too--just got it a little over a week ago, except for one thing. The initial row unravels. How can I fix that issue?

  • @BeignetBeans If you cast on as I demo in the video by going under the 1st hook and behind the next all around, the row will not unravel. I go into great lengths about this in my video The End Game. Have you watched this? I use this Cast on if I am going to pull the edge tightly together like in the top of a hat. It leaves a length of yarn running through the stitch loops so they can gather together very easily. Let me know how it goes.

  • @BeignetBeans In my video on the pointed panel, I show the crochet cast on, this is another way to cast on if you are not going to pull the edge together by the gathering thread.

  • Yes Barb, there are still some ladies purchasing the Innovations. Might you consider doing some additional tutorials and show some of the items you have knitted on this machine? I do many scarves and hats. At times, I will knit a flat panel scarf, though I prefer the flatbed because it gives me the flexibility to do special stitches. The yahoo Innovations group still gets people who work with this machine; as well as the Addi King. I use the small Addi to make "knock around " socks.

  • Barb: It is good to see that you are still up and running. I have two Innovations, and finally I have one that works. It took a while to break it in, but now, I have very few dropped stitches, and can knit a full length winter scarf in about 20-25 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes for fringers. Even though I do machine knitting, I always go pull out my Innovations to knit a quick scarf. I now have others who ask me to knit one in their favorite color. You are an inspiration!!!!

  • @HJKelley47 Well, thank you! Nice to hear I can help in some way! I did the videos so long ago, but the counter keeps climbing so I think there is still interest out there.

  • I got mine from Fingerhut for around $39 back in Nov 2010

  • can you make different size panels? and use chunky yarn?

  • If you ever wonder if this video is still helpful. The answer is yes...I have not done a panel because the instructions in the booklet was hard to follow. Thank you for the great detailed video.

  • @johnson23ish Thanks so much for your comment. It's really nice to hear!

  • @Barb515 What are your suggestions for the curl up on the side?

  • @johnson23ish That is normal for all knits. Steam blocking helps as does adding a crochet edging.

  • I renewed my interest in knitting after reading loomknittingnow (.) com

  • I bought one of these from Hobby Lobby. I LOVE it!! It is so easy to use that my scarf ended up about 8 feet long!

  • I just got one of these for Christmas and couldn't figure it out . Thanks so much for the clear directions...think I'll go knit now!

  • I have checked out and find. Search on yahoo shopping. hds 12

  • argghh i keep dropping stitches!! help!!

  • can you show how to make a sweater with this machine?

  • Great detail! Thanks!

  • I recently bought mine on fingerhut on line.

  • thanks

  • where you get that machine from?

  • @MrKijan I got mine from AC Moore, but they no longer carry them. I have seen them at Jo-Ann's more recently, but I have read that NSI has quit distributing them. Try Google 'Innovations Knitting' as see what you get. eBay has been a good source for discontinued machines for me.

  • @MrKijan I recently got mine at fingerhut online.

  • @MrKijan I am waiting on a part for one of mine then I will be selling it after I fix it. It will be on ebay. But like I said still waiting on the part.

  • When I do the flat panel the crank feels harder to turn than if I do tube. Is that normal?

  • @ghanmy I have not noticed any difference. Is it harder to crank in both directions?

  • Thank you so much for this video!!! You don't know how long I have wrestled to do this on my machine ! Thank you! :^)

  • to flame2hi. The reply function is messed up today, so will do it this way. Are you sure you id'd the correct needle/gate peg? I pull back all the extra yarn that the machine pulls into play going forward just as you see in the video. I am not holding the yarn tight at all as it starts to knit sts back.. You mention "weight on the ends". Are you using side weights? Not sure what you mean here. It is hard to troubleshoot w/o seeing you work. Not much help, sorry. Barb

  • I have a really hard time with the panels, even though I follow your instructions, the end where the waste yarn and my weight on the end ends up all loopy and missing stitches even though I see them go in the needles. then I have all these loops and I know I am pulling the tension. maybe too much tension? not enough? I'm using a number 3 yarn

  • In Europe this machine correspond to one called PRYM MAXI made by Prym. you could try to get it at amazon or ebay

  • Thank you for explaining how to do panels on that machine. It is a pitty that the factory does not bother in making their instruction guide better. I just bought one and felt very left alone with the flimsy guide. I will write them and complain, cause for that price one should get more explicit instructions. SO - THANK YOU AGAIN ! and I hope you are doing fine and everything is well over in your neck of the woods... God Bless

  • where can i get this..i cant find it anywhere and i really want it! :(

  • I bought mine at Hobby Lobby craft store

  • thank u

  • NSI is not distributing them anymore. If you find one, be sure it has not been returned. All the parts should be in sealed plastic bags and there should be knitting on the machine from the factory. I answered this once before and it never showed up in replies...sorry. Barb

  • i got mine from amazon. i love it!

  • Augh... I'll try my response again... it seems youtube won't post websites?!?

Try HobbyLobby's website. They are only $42.99 and are shipped free right now!

    Happy Knitting!

  • thank u very much as soon as i read that i went to the website and ordered it...i just got it and im so happy..thank u very much :)

  • Barb I have a question! My machine has a few needles that refuse to pick uup the wool. This leaves holes that I have to pick up whicch is a pain. What can I do about this?

    Thanks Denise

  • Part 1-Not really sure what is going on w/o working it myself. Thread the guide so the yarn is set deep down in the groove. Keep a little tension on the source yarn to keep it down in the groove- I use 2 ladders of the tension device.Crank VERY SLOW to watch the needle action VERY closely. The tension is what presents the yarn to the needle at the right angle. If you come to a needle that misses the yarn, force feed it with any handy tool. I keep a dental pick type tool handy for this.

  • Part 2- Mark the top of any needle that you have to force feed. Cast off. Crank the empty machine and as each marked needle comes around, examine them for anything that looks different. The needle is in 2 parts and sometimes get wonky. Turn the machine upside down and shake it. This helps adjust the needles, too. Too much tension on the yarn can cause missed sts on next row. Some folks report? less skipped sts if they crank backwards. Go figure. PLEASE let me know how it goes. Barb

  • Wow you make it looks so easy....I have never knitted or attempted to before...I know no one who knows how ...My mother-in-law and I went to a christmas craft fair and these ladies were selling the most fabulous scarf/shawls I have ever seen...very large, and rectangle shaped they had so many diffrent types of yarn mixed diffrent colors in a striping pattern and they were selling for $60.00 a pop...Would you recomend this machine for a beginer and do you make things like that?..... thanks

  • The machine seen in this video has max width of 40 sts. There are flat bed knitting machines that knit much wider projects. Some of these are capable of knitting patterns. I can not recommend this machine for wide shawls. There is a learning curve, but folks do learn to use them that do not hand knit. This machine is best used for hats and tube scarfs about 6" wide (doubled). They like light WW yarn, a 3 or 4 class. These machines are getting harder to find also. Hope this helps. Barb

  • whenever i move clockwise then counter clockwise it always undoes all my stitches...:S

  • Thanks for this vid!

    but i dont get it

so you stop 4 stitches and just move it back?

and why did you go in and out and in and out in the first row

  • All of these machine knitters show the same cast on row that I use on the video. Which machine do you have and do you have the instruction manual that came with it? In this vid, I am making a *panel*, so i have to knit back & forth. To make a tube, I would set the machine up differently. mycraftroom has good videos on the plain *tube* knitting setup. Be sure to knit from a puddle of yarn so there is no extra tension on the yarn as it feeds to the machine. Let me know how it is goes.

    Barb

  • I just bought this machine last week, and it's constantly dropping stitches. I don't know what to do. Please help. :)

  • What kind of yarn are you using? Smooth yarns works best. These machines hate Boucles and nubby yarns. Be sure you have no extra tension on the source yarn. Pull the yarn from the skein and puddle it on floor in front of the machine. Never make the machine pull the yarn from the skein. Extra tension is the main cause of dropped sts.

Let me know how it goes.

    Barb

  • I just bought this machine and one of the needles wants to keep all the yarn for its self. It gathers under the needle and makes then I have to redo everything! Very frustrating. Got any ideas?

  • Part 1 of 2.-Sounds like there is something keeping the stitch from sliding off the needle. If not noticed right away, the yarn builds up on the needle until the machine just gets hard to turn. This particular machine has a shroud and sometime that shroud is not sitting quite right or there is a burr that hampers the stitch to slide off right. On an empty machine, turn the handle until the offending needle is upright and compare to the needles on either side. Continued in Part 2

  • Thanks for the reply. It was broken. After hours messing with it. I just took it back. :/

  • Did you get another one? Which store has them in stock? They are getting hard to find. Sorry it took me so long to respond. Life get s in the way sometimes.

    Barb

  • Got it at hobby lobby. They didn't have other one. I found a smaller, Singer, at another store, but just isn't the same. I'm really disappointed. I really wanted that machine! lol Thanks for your help!

  • I have an Addi Express King (46) needle machine. It knits like a dream and has a row counter!! It is pricey at $200.00..free shipping from Paradise Fibers. If you are into hats and scarfs, this is the unit to get. It works like a machine should. Made in Germany by the makers of Addi knitting needles. Comes with a great pattern book, too. No affiliation.

    Barb

  • Part 2. If you feel or see a rough spot. file it with an Emory board. Take the machine and turn it upside down and give it a good shake. Sometime this helps, especially on a new machine. Run the machine empty for several minutes. Thread the machine and go very slowly and watch how the yarn acts on that needle. Oh, I forgot to mention in Part 1 to mark the offending needle with a dot, so you can find and watch it.Nail Polish or Magic Marker works for this. Hope this helps.Barb

  • Thanks for that video! Now I understand how to not only do a flat panel, but how to make sure the ends don't drop a stitch!

By the way love your nails and accent!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. I've become so frustrated with my machine and I lost the instructions. You have such great ideas. :)

  • I purchased this machine and the instructions leave a lot to be desired. I was ready to throw out the machine. You video was a Godsend.

I am a crocheter this machine looks like I have learned to knit LOL I have learned so much just from your videos. I am still working on trying to get the side edges to not look so loopy and uneven. Thanks again for your help!

  • thank you for your video ,,,i bought same machines but i want to make pillow or blanket for my baby...can you show me how circel yarn in machine becouse when i put the yearn opened ...help me plz,,,thanks

  • Not sure what you are asking Do you need to see how to knit in a circle to create tatube? Or are you unsure of how to cast off and secure the sts? Have you watched my video , "the End Game" where I show how to finish the ends? Also, search for mycraftroom videos...she covers some of the basics as well. Want to help, just not sure what you need.

    Barb

  • dear barb....can you show me how to make pillow or blanket because i know how to make hat ...i hop you understand now

  • Thank you very much for your wonderful ideas and your video... It is very helpful better then the instruction that comes out of the box. It is just useless...

Waiting for you new videos. Keep up the great work.

    You go girl you go....

  • Thanks for an easy to understand video. I got a knitting machine recently and couldn't figure out how to do a panel before this video.

  • The needle 16 the outer shaft came loose I can do the tube mode .how do I fix it

  • I have heard of the outer shaft coming out and the developer NSI has a solution for that.

"Cranks the handle so the needle that is missing the shroud pops up near the yarn feeder she can re-insert the needle shroud at

approx. a 45 degree angle. Make sure you insert the shroud in the correct direction ... look at the other needles to see which way it goes in. It is pretty easy to do. Do not take the machine apart as it is tough to get back together." You can knit a tube, but not a panel? Barb

  • Thanks for putting these videos on here! I look forward to see the future one(s).

    Have a good one!

  • I have a question about bind off. The way the instructions put it is that you thread a needle and go in each stitch. In reality, that's not binding off. Your just putting the stitches on a piece of yarn. When you pull on that yarn to tighten it you will have a hat. What I found is that when I take it off the machine I have to put the stitchs on a knitting needle and bind off the real way. Is that how it's supposed to be done. Is that what u do?

  • I do not like the cast on or cast off shown in the instructions and I am working on a video right now show how I like to do it. I find I can knit off on waste yarn and put the sts on circs or DPNs faster than with the tapestry needle. It shows how I get the sts transfered to circs or DPN's and the easiest bind off I know that is stretchy and pretty. Also have started one on knitting pointed panels. These videos take longer to create, edit, and upload than I realized.

  • Hi Barb. Yes my machine came numbered. The numbers are beside each neelde.. Number 1 is the blue one, and two is the first to the left. The last one in the circle is 44.

I started with four ply and thinned all the way down from there. the tension, thinknig that it was to tight and when I lossened it up some I started droping stitches so that I stopped that. . Thanks bunches you are a sweetheart for helping with this.If you send me the address I could sent you a picture of my mess.

  • On my machine the needles are numbered. I have tried several weights of yarn and keep

adjusting the tension but on about the third row the yarn stays down in under the needles and it just bunches up from there. I have weighted down the ends with clips and I am not sure where to go from here. I am hoping that just working it over and over I will be able to come up with something. I like the maching and like the men always tell me, it is not the mcahine but the operator.

  • Are you saying the machine came with numbered needles? If you numbered them...how? Have you tried using different yarns? The sounds like the st is not sliding off the needles. I have had that happen when I used a yarn that was too heavy (bulky)... or if I had too much tension on the yarn as it feed to the needles, making tight sts. I have never used weights when knitting on the crank knitters. HTH

  • Your vidoo is just great. I have trouble with the flat panel it just won't go for me. On the

43 or 44 needle it always sticks down in and then the whole thing piles up on that spot.

  • Not sure which one is 43 or 44. If you call the blue Needle #1, then needle 44 would be the one to the right of it .. the first or last st of a row, depending on direction. Perhaps you are holding the yarn a little too tight. Try it with a less tension. Sounds like a st can't come off, jams the needle and then others pile up on it. I've had that happen when a needle split the yarn and would not let it slip off.

  • How did you get your handel off? I have tried but I am afraid that I will break it.

The darn thing is in my way and I don't think it is really needed.

  • I took it off as I did not need it with the little work bench. I did find it in the way, too. I just gave it a good pull straight up on each side. It's pretty tough stuff.
