It's funny, how everybody comments on the kinks vs the beatles, the kinks vs the who... In Ray's autobiography he points out that the main competition in the early days was with the stones, about who would be the second greatest band after the beatles.
Well, actually the real arguing for better band between the fans is The Kinks or The Who.Not The Beatles. The Beatles are above everything that was or will be in the history of music.
And I think The Kinks are way better than The Who.
This is pertaining to the comment that who is better the Kinks or the Beatles.. Look just because they are both British Bands it doesnt mean they are the same.. Look the Beatles have this clean cut image and they were very polished in their sound. and their early stuff was Pop and The Kinks were not polished and they didnt have this real clean cut image at first.. and they were not Pop.. They were more raw and like the stones. But the kinks had that sweet boy with just a touch of bad boy. Sexy.

WOW the fukin kinks! I saw them in '79 in Portland OR at the schnitzer. they fuckin kicked ass! I was 29 and we took an 18 year old friend. She could'nt stop raving. She kept on asking "Who are these guys?" Their encore was Twist and shout. They arranged themselves exactly like the beatles and proceeded to Do it just as well. We all shouted and stomped . It was great.
Complete bullshit, and I love them both. Fact is, while the Beatles were at the forefront of the British Invasion, the Kinks were more inventive (strictly speaking) during those early years... Think about it, The Beatles didn't really break out of the skiffle routine until after the Kinks released "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night." See my point. Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire was also on the same level as Sgt Pepper's, undebatable.
@mussman717word Don't be silly Mussman, i witnessed it all as a kid and young adult, the Kinks' body of work was great, but they were not nearly as creative or prolific as the Beatles. It doesn't matter who was first or last or in the middle, the statistics speak for themselves. John Lennon had more creativity in his little finger than Ray Davies had in his whole body, nuff said!!!!!!
Or maybe I've just got impartiality of witnessing these things after the fact. I never said either were better or worse, and sure the Beatles were more influential. What I'm trying to say is that it wasn't always the case.
i was too young to know or care who the songs were by. all i know is that i was weened on rock and roll and i loved it all. now its fun to find out who it was that did all those great songs. the ironicy is by '68 i knew the bands and then to hear something from
64 or '65 that they did that i loved too!! u understand what i mean? its all good!!
Set me Free was one of my favorites in those days. A new sound in that time it was, never heard before, and it kept echoing in my head. The old records, I still have them : not for sale at all.
@TheCocknbulls if you had no hands....you might have to adapt. And yes I agree hands are good and as far as what technology does for us, the body will eventually be null and void-scary!
Beatles v Kinks ? I was a teenager in the 60s. Totally different bands. Most of us loved them both and didn't think about who was 'best'. It wasn't a competition. Do you think we had to like just ONE of the dozens of great bands we were lucky enough to have around then ?
Ween reminds me of the Kinks a lot in their songs, and Ween is my favorite band, example..song "what deaner was talking about" reminds me of kinks "waterloo sunset"
there were so many good and interesting pop songs in this era.The beatles may have jarred the door open but there were plenty of artists on both side of the pond that helped to create the magic of that time
No doubt-This guy has been reported for SPAM and hope he loses his ability to voice in that manner at least in this forum. He can live in hate and talk about it all day in his house-Dont think he has many friends...YIKES!
I believe the Kinks are great and I hate the fucking Beatles. Anyway, there's no point in arguing, opinions are like asses, everyone has it, some of them are smelly.
The Kinks were the precursor to heavy metal, and opened the door. They were definitely the first with that sound, and the hardest sound at the time.
Hendrix's sound was known as psychedelic rock, along with Jefferson Airplane, Cream, etc. Even Black Sabbath wasn't as heavy when they first started, but they were dark from the get-go.
Cool song by The Kinks. People think these guys started Heavy Metal. It's possible, though other may think Jimi Hendrix may have started Heavy Metal, due to his style of playing. Then again, Black Sabbath was labeled as the first real Heavy Metal band. In any case, this song by The Kinks Rocks!!
well, the beatles will always be better than ANY OTHER band, but, let's admit, if The Kinks had a producer like Geroge Martin and a manager like Brian Epstein, they would be as famous as The Beatles (maybe more). that's fairly obvious.
@MuriloPepler Sure Kinks would be more famous than Beatles, they needed people like Brian Epstein and George Martin to guide them... Very underrated band though... It pisses me off when people say that Van Halen wrote "You really got me"...
@onir27 i agree with what you said about that they could have been bigger if they had better producers like brian epstien, who knows it could have been them that just got released on itunes this year or couldv been them that got rock band the kinks or them who got there albums reissued and 100s of movies and documentarys, your right man lol
the kinks would have been bigger than the beatles if they wouldnt of been banned fromm america !!!! the beatles got big in america so while theywere conquering the usa the kinks had to stay in europe and if u listen to there songs the kins are just better !!! :)X
@omgiTsmeJon WOW testy i didnt realize i lived in the middle east where i wasnt allowd 2 hav an opinion just sayin the beatles didnt matter makes u sound incoherent get a life & quit insulting people that speak the truth
I Used To Have The Same Opinion. Without The Beatles You Would Still Have The Kinks, The Hollies, The Animals, The Who ect......... But The Truth Is The Beatles Rally Did Kick Start What Buddy Holly Started
@Zcecchine54 yea i luv buddy holly 2 but im frm texas its kind of a law but no 1 will ever agree on who startd it all but i dont believ in belittling ppl 4 ther opinon on music its like" who made u the god of music"
@MrMikeyXx WOW U OBVIOUSLY DONT NO THAT TEXAS IS FULL OF MEXICANS WHICH I HAPPEN 2 B I WASNT AWARE WE HUNG BLK PPL & JEWS BUT I DO NO THAT AUSTIN IS 1 OF THE MUSIC CAPITALS OF THE NATION NUN OF WHAT IM SAYIN HAS NETHING 2 DO W THE KINKS SO Y R WE TLKIN ABOUT IT SUM OF U PPL R CRAZY ILL MAKE SURE NOT 2 CUM AROUND HERE NOMORE
For me, Beatles songs were kind of removed, like they're telling you ABOUT things...but the Kinks are hugely vivid, like you're right there living it with them.
I hear a Beatles song, it sounds dated & takes me back to that time. I hear the Kinks & they still get to me NOW--they sound current, fresh & relevant
.
THAT's what, for me, makes The Kinks better. It's a matter of taste, preference, & personal relevance. I'd never see the Beatles in concert; but could never see The Kinks enough.
I said they ARE underrated which they ARE. I mean the Beatles get too much credit, and before you say you don't think so... tough. It's not subjective in this case. Many songs they released were great.. but they were just stealing ideas from others and because of this they were given the praise and fame, which the real talent didn't.
@SirForrestGump Gump your name fits you well,as you are dumber that a box of rocks in your case, Fool if the Beatles didn't get the worlds attention there would never have been Kinks,Animals ,Stones ,Yardbirds and all the british acts,The Beatles after the first album or so wrote all there hits and and dozens more they gave to others who made hits from the Beatles, never stole anyone's ideas.Fact The Beatles put out songs for7 years, and sold over 1 Billion, the Stones after 45 years sold 350 m.
@SirForrestGump BULLSHIT the Beatles didn't steal SHIT. They did do a couple of songs by Chuck Barry, and Elvis in their early years, but WHY THEY WERE SO ORIGINAL and had so many different styles is WHY they were famous, hell, they still are! The Beatles revolutionized the Rock World, man, and there's no denying it!
i'm surprised, at EVERY Kinks video i've looked at so far, theres several mentions of the beatles, But i go on Beatles Videos, no mention about the kinks. This is a sign to all to Stfu about other bands and keep your focus on the band present in the video.
The Beatles are the best just cause they all can sing the kinks and the stones got just as good lyrics they just cant touch paul and johns voices Ray does kick alot of ass though
What's funny is they were considered one of the worst bands in England. They couldn't play any blues standards, then Ray wrote all these great songs. Same with the Beatles. They were horrible when you listen to those Decca audition tapes. That's the great thing about rock and roll, you can create your own sound, it's limitless. Take rap for example, it's limited...Once you sing it's no longer rap. But with RnR you can do rap, do anything.
@JamesTKirkCobain Indeed. That's why I think record stores should refrain from automatically categorizing musical artists based on some rather superficial criteria (Joan Armatrading in R&B because she's black?)
I see the trolls have ruined yet another great Kinks vid site with pseudo-intellectual crappy conversation that should be held privately. Would you guys PLEASE go somewhere else
They had an edge the beatles didn't at the time. That's not to say, the beatles didn't go on to make amazing music, but the point here is that the Kinks at this particular time, were a proper rock n roll band.
When the Beatles stopped touring and they weren't heard of for months a lot of teens were writing them of as a flash in the pan pop band saying they were finished. This was when the Beatles were in the studio making Sgt Pepper. Which P. Townsend described as a devasting record. Made B.Wilson flip out. Hendrix covered a track. All the other bands released similar concepts, even the kinks. The transition blew everyone away. They were just incredible. Kinks were never even equals.
Macartney singing Got to get you into my life, his ode to marijuana and getting high, or locking myself in my bedroom while down and depressed and listen to Curtis siing about a girl having an epilectic fit? But that's just me. I am curious as to what ground you base your belief on that the docile, populist, ignorant masses will finally see that Joy Division is really the end all of music,. What grounds or factors is that based on? I'm genuinely curious
@Underground906 Come on man, I didn't realize you were uninformed about the background of monumental bands besides the Beatles. Look, I saw the movie too but don't try to pass off what limited information you have on a band and pretend to be informed as to the background of their music. Its okay if you don't, just say "don't know much about them" and that will suffice. Anyways, McCartney was only the third best songwriter in the Beatles and none of them approach the poetry of Curtis. Not close.
@cb I picked ur the epilepsy thing on yt, haven't seen the film. Musically the band were out there and the best of there time and genre, no doubt. Yes, Curtis was all deep and introspective but had he not done himself where else could they have gone musically? Just more of the same. No variety. No evolution. If they would have kept up what they did in those two albums for 6-7 years, increasing evolving and perfecting their craft. yes. Otherwise, it's ridiculous argument from personal conviction
@cbmdg8551976 A fallacy. So is the misguided and ignorant view have of the Beatles. Lennon had his own hang ups in life. He expressed them through his music. It wasn't alway pop. Julia, about his mum, was not superficial. Revolution no9 and two versions were not pop, Yer blues was a world a way from their early stuff. Revolution was clever The medly on abbey rd was fucking genius. Their vocal ranges were stunning. They albums were progressly better each time. And their demo were pure comedy.
@Underground906 Yes I do feel that Lennon was the real deal in terms of the chief voice of the Beatles. Far more interesting to me than Paul that is for damn sure. Why do you think he was so frustrated with the rest and vowed never to go back. he had reached his end with them and it was time to go. By the way, I'll say it again for you (do you have ADD?) I Don't Hate The Beatles, not at all!! Give that thread of your discussion up. I just appreciate other bands material that's all. dont sweat it
@cbmdg8551976 I never did say you hated them. I responding to things you did say. I have a terrible habit of being able to read what someone says and understanding it before replying. I responded to where you said 'If you're looking at superficial, time era clever, and cutesy stuff The Beatles are the band' They were far more than that. The underlying suggestion is their popularity is based on 95% of people having their head up their arse. Not the incredible talent, charisma and accomplishments
@Underground906 not my attention to infer that only idiots like the Beatles and that because they do they must be stupid. I am well aware of the effect their music had on musicians both then and now. I definitely realize the impact they have had on the musical landscape. Most have picked up an instrument because of that effect. Since you can read into peoples intentions I'm surprised that hasn't resonated with you. Again, I like the Beatles I acknowledge their impact, they were gifted.
@Underground906 Look, everything that bands like the Who, The Kinks The Stones, etc were trying to accomplish was done out of the knowledge that the Beatles laid the groundwork and path. Its just that a funny thing happened along the way. These bands created an individual voice with their own talents and direction. Music has a way of doing that. The Beatles were not the end all and be all. They led the way for others to forge ahead and create. All respect for that. I for one just enjoy some
@cbmdg8551976 I never once said the Beatles were the be all and end all of music as if I couldn't acknowledge other bands. It's the sign of a stubborn mind that wants to hang onto a view point so desperately that it has to concoct a false argument for the opposing one that makes their stance look like the credible. sensible view to take. You'd be right if I thought they were the be all. My point is they were the greatest band ever.. Other bands are great in their way but no one equal.
@Underground906 that other bands took. Its strictly a personal thing. Taste is in the eye of the beholder. Certain things hit people in different ways. Like a chick, a house, whatever. I've got a friend of mine every bit as fanatical about the Beatles as you are and he often says something to me that I had never considered. He says that Paul and John are without question the greatest back-up singers ever. Initially I thought that was a knock, but, when considered in context its true.
@Underground906 point being that everything is in the eye of the beholder. Just like my opinions about JD won't change or my initial comment about the cleverness of the Kinks. You don't have to accept that I don't care. I have certain opinions about the Beatles that I know are not shared by others, that's cool. Great band, but not everything to me as we have outlined in this now book of opinion. I do appreciate your dedication that's for sure. I just can't completely adhere to it.
@cbmdg8551976 I'm not fanatical. I just like to deal in facts and reality. Whereas others have the mindset that if they believe something is true than it must be. Like the creationists who believe the world is 6000y.o because the bible has them believe that. They don't care for the evidence or what's real. You and anyone who thinks it's a tragedy the Kinks aren't mentioned everytime the Beatles are, like they deserve to be are the same. That's fine. Informed by subjectivity more than fact.
@Underground906 At lest you should know that lyrics are not the strongest suit of the Beatles. If you're looking at superficial, time era clever, and cutesy stuff The Beatles are the band. If you want real meat and potatoes thought provoking content you need to look beyond gettin' high. And by the way "she's Lost Control" is like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" an attempt by the label to get them air play. You want to really listen to something put on Closer. And if depression is all you get
@Underground906 then you aren't listening. You must understand that 95% of the people in this world walk around with there heads up their asses. Thats where my comments about the masses lie. Don't be a conformist. As I told you before no hatred for the Beatles as I've outlined they changed the face of music and were a great band. I just don't hold then in the same regard you do. Just an opinion and by the way the majority of music fans agree with you (doesn't bother me at all).
@cbmdg8551976 Here's my theory after having encountered the mindset so many times that it's almost comformist to subscribe to it. Most outcasts, egotists and social misfits subcribe to it by the way. I once did for a brief spell. Most people follow the herd, yes. Doesn't mean they are stupid. doesn't mean that 5% are more sophisticated either. I grew out of misanthropy and self indulgent introspection years ago. I know many people thing they're unique and deeper than others. It's bullshit.
@Underground906 I don't think that sophistication is the word you were looking for in this context. Take a moment to think about it before you get pissed. Self-indulgent? huh, introspective, come on man! Can you really be that shallow to fall into the "i'm in love with myself" analysis of an opinion. Don't consider myself that way at all. What's bullshit is your dismissal of a personal opinion. Think for a moment before you speak it helps. Plus dude you crack me up. You are doing the same thing
@Underground906 by lambasting me because of an opinion. You are the one now subscribing tot he theory that you word and opinion is the one that matters. Glad to hear you have become the one with the great insight that all your readers aspire to. Like I said the Stones are the clear choice in the popular opinion in terms of rivals of the Beatles. And I also said I find their catalog at least equal to them. I'm getting burned out about having to repeat myself for you, why must that be?
@cbmdg8551976 I wasn't angry or lambasting you when I said no fucking band touched the beatles. I was just throwing in an assertion of my own.. But it also happens to be a statement of fact. I found the best documentary I've ever seen earlier on the Beatles - Beatles Revolution #1 - #10. Luminaries such as P. Townsend, Smoky Robinson, the Stones, even true greats like Nsync speak about the Beatles. JD, the Kinks or any1 could not have made that impact on people and the world in that position
It's that 'root for the underdog' thing, if something's popular and people like it, they seek those alternatives as a matter of course. Which would be fine if they then didn't start believing they somehow more discerning than your average 'pop music' fan. If the Bealtes were a cutesy, insignificant pop act with no balls I wouldn't be a fan. Far from that Even black ghetto hip hop kids rate the Beatles. All walks of life do. Not for nothing.
@Underground906 Must admit however how you're subjective opinions are so limited. I consider you a pretty insightful person in musical terms as I read your posts to other comments, but you dismiss everything as unworthy in compared to the Beatles. Oasis is a good band. Definitely Maybe and Whats The Story... are great albums. Not to mention they fall all over themselves talking about the Beatles. They are definite proteges of your idols. Also never considered musicians underdogs. why do you?
@cbmdg8551976 You are the one in the wrong comparing every other band to the Beatles because of your low opinion of them. When I look at it from an impartial perspective weigh up what the Beatles did in comparison to Oasis (who I rate highly) it's just pales. Same with JD. Two albums and they are supposed to have topped what the Beatles did? Like I said, I still accept the greatness of other bands. Oasis got me into the Beatles. Who I thought were shit at first in comparison. But I found out.
It would be completely absurd if you were to suggest that JD packs more innovation and musical genius into their two albums than anything the Beatles did. I genuinely mean that's it truly absurd, that you's let you subjective feelings for JD think that for for real and become that narrow minded, yet accuse me of the same. I was pointing out the tendency towrds personal bias in you in the first place, not putting any blinkers on myself. Most understand the Beatles legacy is unmatched.
can't believe how good the kinks are. ive been consumed by oasis for years now but the kinks are changing that!

Beatles v Kinks ? I was a teenager in the 60s. Totally different bands. Most of us loved them both and didn't think about who was 'best'. It wasn't a competition. Do you think we had to like just ONE of the dozens of great bands we were lucky enough to have around then ?

MuriloPepler 1 year ago 5
@MuriloPepler Sure Kinks would be more famous than Beatles, they needed people like Brian Epstein and George Martin to guide them... Very underrated band though... It pisses me off when people say that Van Halen wrote "You really got me"...

I'd never see the Beatles in concert; but could never see The Kinks enough.
highroadnow 1 year ago
@highroadnow at least you have a relevant argument....but I love the Beatles just too damned much. <3
beatlessexy 1 year ago
I said they ARE underrated which they ARE. I mean the Beatles get too much credit, and before you say you don't think so... tough. It's not subjective in this case. Many songs they released were great.. but they were just stealing ideas from others and because of this they were given the praise and fame, which the real talent didn't.
SirForrestGump 1 year ago
@SirForrestGump Gump your name fits you well,as you are dumber that a box of rocks in your case, Fool if the Beatles didn't get the worlds attention there would never have been Kinks,Animals ,Stones ,Yardbirds and all the british acts,The Beatles after the first album or so wrote all there hits and and dozens more they gave to others who made hits from the Beatles, never stole anyone's ideas.Fact The Beatles put out songs for7 years, and sold over 1 Billion, the Stones after 45 years sold 350 m.
JJMFB1 1 year ago
@SirForrestGump BULLSHIT the Beatles didn't steal SHIT. They did do a couple of songs by Chuck Barry, and Elvis in their early years, but WHY THEY WERE SO ORIGINAL and had so many different styles is WHY they were famous, hell, they still are! @tolanbaranduna i think it is hard to say Beatles were better, as after 1965, they went their own way, but left
the "stage"as far as rock music is concerned. You find that a lot of people loved the frontier breaking
original music of the Beatles in that era, but in retrospect , prefer the Kinks, the Stones etc, as they stuck to
an area that was becoming increasingly difficult in which to make any new sound that had not been heard and categorised before

Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 Come on man, I didn't realize you were uninformed about the background of monumental bands besides the Beatles. Look, I saw the movie too but don't try to pass off what limited information you have on a band and pretend to be informed as to the background of their music. Its okay if you don't, just say "don't know much about them" and that will suffice. Anyways, McCartney was only the third best songwriter in the Beatles and none of them approach the poetry of Curtis. Not close.
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cb I picked ur the epilepsy thing on yt, haven't seen the film. Musically the band were out there and the best of there time and genre, no doubt. Yes, Curtis was all deep and introspective but had he not done himself where else could they have gone musically? Just more of the same. No variety. No evolution. If they would have kept up what they did in those two albums for 6-7 years, increasing evolving and perfecting their craft. yes. Otherwise, it's ridiculous argument from personal conviction
Underground906 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 A fallacy. So is the misguided and ignorant view have of the Beatles. Lennon had his own hang ups in life. He expressed them through his music. It wasn't alway pop. Julia, about his mum, was not superficial. Revolution no9 and two versions were not pop, Yer blues was a world a way from their early stuff. Revolution was clever The medly on abbey rd was fucking genius. Their vocal ranges were stunning. They albums were progressly better each time. And their demo were pure comedy.
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 Yes I do feel that Lennon was the real deal in terms of the chief voice of the Beatles. Far more interesting to me than Paul that is for damn sure. Why do you think he was so frustrated with the rest and vowed never to go back. he had reached his end with them and it was time to go. By the way, I'll say it again for you (do you have ADD?) I Don't Hate The Beatles, not at all!! Give that thread of your discussion up. I just appreciate other bands material that's all. dont sweat it
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 I never did say you hated them. I responding to things you did say. I have a terrible habit of being able to read what someone says and understanding it before replying. I responded to where you said 'If you're looking at superficial, time era clever, and cutesy stuff The Beatles are the band' They were far more than that. The underlying suggestion is their popularity is based on 95% of people having their head up their arse. Not the incredible talent, charisma and accomplishments
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 not my attention to infer that only idiots like the Beatles and that because they do they must be stupid. I am well aware of the effect their music had on musicians both then and now. I definitely realize the impact they have had on the musical landscape. Most have picked up an instrument because of that effect. Since you can read into peoples intentions I'm surprised that hasn't resonated with you. Again, I like the Beatles I acknowledge their impact, they were gifted.
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@Underground906 Look, everything that bands like the Who, The Kinks The Stones, etc were trying to accomplish was done out of the knowledge that the Beatles laid the groundwork and path. Its just that a funny thing happened along the way. These bands created an individual voice with their own talents and direction. Music has a way of doing that. The Beatles were not the end all and be all. They led the way for others to forge ahead and create. All respect for that. I for one just enjoy some
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 I never once said the Beatles were the be all and end all of music as if I couldn't acknowledge other bands. It's the sign of a stubborn mind that wants to hang onto a view point so desperately that it has to concoct a false argument for the opposing one that makes their stance look like the credible. sensible view to take. You'd be right if I thought they were the be all. My point is they were the greatest band ever.. Other bands are great in their way but no one equal.
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 that other bands took. Its strictly a personal thing. Taste is in the eye of the beholder. Certain things hit people in different ways. Like a chick, a house, whatever. I've got a friend of mine every bit as fanatical about the Beatles as you are and he often says something to me that I had never considered. He says that Paul and John are without question the greatest back-up singers ever. Initially I thought that was a knock, but, when considered in context its true.
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@Underground906 point being that everything is in the eye of the beholder. Just like my opinions about JD won't change or my initial comment about the cleverness of the Kinks. You don't have to accept that I don't care. I have certain opinions about the Beatles that I know are not shared by others, that's cool. Great band, but not everything to me as we have outlined in this now book of opinion. I do appreciate your dedication that's for sure. I just can't completely adhere to it.
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 I'm not fanatical. I just like to deal in facts and reality. Whereas others have the mindset that if they believe something is true than it must be. Like the creationists who believe the world is 6000y.o because the bible has them believe that. They don't care for the evidence or what's real. You and anyone who thinks it's a tragedy the Kinks aren't mentioned everytime the Beatles are, like they deserve to be are the same. That's fine. Informed by subjectivity more than fact.
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 At lest you should know that lyrics are not the strongest suit of the Beatles. If you're looking at superficial, time era clever, and cutesy stuff The Beatles are the band. If you want real meat and potatoes thought provoking content you need to look beyond gettin' high. And by the way "she's Lost Control" is like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" an attempt by the label to get them air play. You want to really listen to something put on Closer. And if depression is all you get
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@Underground906 then you aren't listening. You must understand that 95% of the people in this world walk around with there heads up their asses. Thats where my comments about the masses lie. Don't be a conformist. As I told you before no hatred for the Beatles as I've outlined they changed the face of music and were a great band. I just don't hold then in the same regard you do. Just an opinion and by the way the majority of music fans agree with you (doesn't bother me at all).
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 Here's my theory after having encountered the mindset so many times that it's almost comformist to subscribe to it. Most outcasts, egotists and social misfits subcribe to it by the way. I once did for a brief spell. Most people follow the herd, yes. Doesn't mean they are stupid. doesn't mean that 5% are more sophisticated either. I grew out of misanthropy and self indulgent introspection years ago. I know many people thing they're unique and deeper than others. It's bullshit.
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 I don't think that sophistication is the word you were looking for in this context. Take a moment to think about it before you get pissed. Self-indulgent? huh, introspective, come on man! Can you really be that shallow to fall into the "i'm in love with myself" analysis of an opinion. Don't consider myself that way at all. What's bullshit is your dismissal of a personal opinion. Think for a moment before you speak it helps. Plus dude you crack me up. You are doing the same thing
yesiamawizardjonny 1 year ago
@Underground906 by lambasting me because of an opinion. You are the one now subscribing tot he theory that you word and opinion is the one that matters. Glad to hear you have become the one with the great insight that all your readers aspire to. Like I said the Stones are the clear choice in the popular opinion in terms of rivals of the Beatles. And I also said I find their catalog at least equal to them. I'm getting burned out about having to repeat myself for you, why must that be?
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 I wasn't angry or lambasting you when I said no fucking band touched the beatles. I was just throwing in an assertion of my own.. But it also happens to be a statement of fact. I found the best documentary I've ever seen earlier on the Beatles - Beatles Revolution #1 - #10. Luminaries such as P. Townsend, Smoky Robinson, the Stones, even true greats like Nsync speak about the Beatles. JD, the Kinks or any1 could not have made that impact on people and the world in that position
Underground906 1 year ago

lionlam132 1 year ago
It's that 'root for the underdog' thing, if something's popular and people like it, they seek those alternatives as a matter of course. Which would be fine if they then didn't start believing they somehow more discerning than your average 'pop music' fan. If the Bealtes were a cutesy, insignificant pop act with no balls I wouldn't be a fan. Far from that Even black ghetto hip hop kids rate the Beatles. All walks of life do. Not for nothing.
Underground906 1 year ago
@Underground906 Must admit however how you're subjective opinions are so limited. I consider you a pretty insightful person in musical terms as I read your posts to other comments, but you dismiss everything as unworthy in compared to the Beatles. Oasis is a good band. Definitely Maybe and Whats The Story... are great albums. Not to mention they fall all over themselves talking about the Beatles. They are definite proteges of your idols. Also never considered musicians underdogs. why do you?
cbmdg8551976 1 year ago
@cbmdg8551976 You are the one in the wrong comparing every other band to the Beatles because of your low opinion of them. When I look at it from an impartial perspective weigh up what the Beatles did in comparison to Oasis (who I rate highly) it's just pales. Same with JD. Two albums and they are supposed to have topped what the Beatles did? Like I said, I still accept the greatness of other bands. Oasis got me into the Beatles. Who I thought were shit at first in comparison. But I found out.
Underground906 1 year ago
It would be completely absurd if you were to suggest that JD packs more innovation and musical genius into their two albums than anything the Beatles did. I genuinely mean that's it truly absurd, that you's let you subjective feelings for JD think that for for real and become that narrow minded, yet accuse me of the same. I was pointing out the tendency towrds personal bias in you in the first place, not putting any blinkers on myself. Most understand the Beatles legacy is unmatched.
