This is awesome! I was looking around at battery powered amps cause I need one for my sitar and came upon your stuff. Sounds great! I love the cigar box amp, and now I really want to learn to make one too.
Like it. I just collected all the parts to make one myself, only had to spend a whopping 8$ I just have to find the time to put it together. That little amp is really cool! I'll have to make one of those next when I'm
what a fantastic sound! i've just built (and am having fun with) a one string diddley bow and am scrounging the parts for my first cbg, thanks for posting the vid. great inspiration for us newbies :)
wow thanks for shearing . i just built my first CBG a few weeks ago and now im starting my second CBG and it is guitars and music like this that really gets me pumped up to build and play a cigar box guitar.
i built a cigar box guitar last year and i love it but this amp is what i'm missing! awesome little box man! If there is any way i can get a diagram or something along those lines i would greatly appreciate it. love the sound my friend!!!
@13onesy Thanks for kind comments. The electrics were built from a small mono amp kit I bought from Maplin in the UK. If you're in the USA have a look at Radioshack for something similar. You can buy ready built modules to put in your own box from guitarfuel or you can build a similar thing from scratch based on the Ruby amp or Smokey Tone amp. Sorry this site won't let me post links so you'll need to do a search for them.
For a three stringer I make them 20x30 mm in section and roughly 1000mm long (depends on lenght of scale used) Box size will affect sound it but it's not always prdictable. Some small boxes sound better than bigger ones. There are lots of factors. Box material will affect it but also type of wood used for neck, strings, bridge/nut material. Check out cigar box nation website - lots of ehpful info there.
Thanks a lot. Yes the amp is solid state. You can find the link to my blog on the homepage of this channel under my general description. I am currently putting together a booklet on how to make the amp. If you are interested email me to address on the blog and I 'll give you details of how to get one when it's done.
The 1 inch thick boards should be thick enough for a three string neck.
Nice guitar David! I love the drain in the amp too, gives it a little rattle/resonator effect in the distorted aria. Ik like the holes in the guitar too, sort of your personal signature. Nice playing too as usual my friend, you should try a four string.

Nice guitar. Smooth yet rough sound. I
Like it. I just collected all the parts to make one myself, only had to spend a whopping 8$ I just have to find the time to put it together. That little amp is really cool! I'll have to make one of those next when I'm
done with the guitar itself.

I'm astonished !
After years rtying sliding on "normal" guitars, I dig that way of paying ! ! !
Please, could you tellm what are your strings, and tunig ?
Youl make a "little frenchie" happy, cause, i'm going back to the roots, as I get old . . .
Keep on that melodic job !
(Scuse my english writting, as I tell you, I'm french, but founs of blues) !

do you have fret wire on your neck or no frets?
MilkMoneyTatz 2 years ago
no fret wires, just marks burnt or cut in for guidance - i just keep them simple an play them with a slide

how did you make that amp?
BigOrca107 2 years ago
It's too difficult to explain how to make it on here. The main part of the electronics is a kit but you need to add the peripheral components too.
smojomusic 2 years ago
really good sound, i wonder how did you make that jeje

I noticed that too. Pretty bad ass amp.

hey how did u make the frets? i plan on making one myself
MKrock0 3 years ago
They are just burned on, not 'proper' wire frets. I only play it with slide so no need for them.

Sweet man it is one of the better CBG on youtube I would love to know about the amp you are using,( I could not find your blog) Is it a solid state?
I have some old wooden cigar boxses and polar 1 x 4 boards to make a neck from of corse they would have to be glued together to make them thicker.

simply amazing! way better than many supposed-to-be "great sounding" DIY amps...
cheers!
