It comes from the Latin word for "hybrid" and was used to describe plants, animals, and minerals. Words that developed from this term have been used for thousands of years. The mule is just one example and calling yourself a mulatto no more compares yourself to one than it does to a metal alloy like bronze, unless you choose to mean it that way. When I use the term, I'm much more influenced by the heritage and history of Mulattos than by an animal. Any offense others take is their own problem.
If you take offense, then you grant the definition as a negative. I'd tell my kid, she can be black and proud as well as white and right, or whatever the current mantra of racist groups is.
Maybe you hang around so called "thinkers" who are racist as hell and hate your dad or your mom, and have taught you to hate yourself as a result.
I'm not sure.
I'm sure my child will question her "race" at some point, but I hope she never allows it to become her philosophy.
@lolacastellano13 How can someone be "half white" ..white is not an ethnicity, but a political classification. It is not synonymous with being of European origin. The Irish were once NOT white.. The Ashkenazim who are absolutely Europeans were NOT considered White. A child with a black parent is NOT white and not accepted as White nor classified as White nor does s/he function as white if white people know they have a black parent. Telling a child s/he is "half White" will only confuse them.
I personally prefer to be called a Mulatto person than any alternative. It's more specific, than Mixed or Bi-racial or even Black (which I do get called sometimes). Technically a White person could refer to themselves as 'Mixed heritage' (e.g.: Italian with Irish).
Who cares if it's derived from 'Mule' anyway, Mules are more patient and live longer than Horses and are faster and more intelligent than Donkeys ;)
Why the duck do some black people get offended when im talking about race. lets take this nigga: if yall talk about my race, im not gonna get like pissed of, i think its interesting bics. So i talk about it. Im Hungarian, 2000 years ago Hungarians came from the Ural mountains, they were mongoloid, so they mixed with indoeuropeans, mostly with dinarics, nordics, slavics, and so on.
I don't understand why you have to define yourself as black or white. I've know African Amer. that appear more "mix" looking than you, AND have two African Amer. parents. I wish ppl would stop labeling themselves. That how separation in ethic groups begin.

I've never really understood the stigma around the word mulatto. I like to use it (but I'm not biracial) mainly because it's so much more specific to black and white in a nut shell. I've heard many biracial people use it for about the same reason. Although, I do like the term "biracial" more because it's way more unitary since it covers so many races. It's one step above just saying, "we're all human" in way.
Go on girl im right here with you....im bi racial too im african n mexican.....i dnt say american cuz well like dat otha person said its not a race....i lovee being bi racial and i get a lot of ignorent comments sometimes on my race too.

I think you can say whatever you want to say and if people have a problem with it they should shut the hell up and not view your videos!!! its a free country... why must everyone put their two cents in everything!!! People should just mind their own damn business and stop telling everyone else what they should and should not say!!! P.S YOur hair is beautiful and so are you!! .::GOOD DAY::.
lol @ how you first heard of Mulatto. Listen. Anything can be made to seem negative. I'll give you a clear example with which you might be familiar and yet unfamiliar with. Cracker is used negatively against caucasion people. You get mad at them you call them cracker. Back in the day, it was not an offensive term and caucasions actually embraced being called a cracker, it was positive. :) Words can have positive/negative connotations and me and other Mulattoes have no ill will about the term.
@WONDAWOMAN What's your last name? Bet It's European. You have no Idea who your African ancestors are because THEY sold each other into slavery. I have no sympathy for the thuggish disrespectful black culture of today. I will never be sorry for that.

yep. to this day i don't know if i think she knew she was almost calling me a nigger( i hate even writing that word), or if she was just regurgitating crap she heard from her mom. thanks so much for watching!!!!
Why are people so obsessed with "race"? You cannot tell a person's heritage by their skin color...ONLY by their DNA. The ironic thing is, we all have much more in common than differences. You may actually be MORE white biologically than some bigots claiming to be white. NO ONE IN AMERICA IS 100% WHITE! What does that mean anyway?! We are all made in God's perfect image! Claim ALL of your heritage...it is who you are!
cwarton White racists (usually poor & frustrated, looking for someone to blame)stay busy focusing on disrespecting Black, Brown & Red people, they dont notice George Bush doesnt care about broke whites either.
