Every time I hear this glorious, glorious piece, I think of all those that have not yet done so. And I truely envy them. Because they have yet to discover this magnificent experience for the first time. There are others following in Morricones' footsteps, but I genuinely believe, when he's gone, like Mozart, none that come after, will ever attain this man's brilliance within this sphere. When that chorus comes in, it's like Ambrosia for the ears.
Wow! This is so amazing. I was looking for relief and found it here. So powerful and so what I needed to get back into alignment with myself. I appreciate this incredible masterpiece. True bliss ahhh.
This music is only surpassed by seeing the film along with it....the movie is astonishing and might be the most underrated films of my lifetime(~1980-)
@michigrind23 Just one page back, a commentor talks about getting the CD in the mail!
Are you from Michigan? I was best friends with Eddie Dyer, we used to pray in tongues for 3 hours in his carpet store every morning. Before he became a pentecostal Christian he was president of the Renegades (Detroit). Happy Motoring!
Sorry to go seemingly off topic here but I hate how the Catholic Church is demonized for supposedly exploiting the natives. Not all the Spanish setlers were bad people or exploitive and the Priests there like Bartolomew de la Casas and the Jesuits denounced Spanish atrocities and managed to make laws fairer to the Native Amercians. Even Paul III who wasn't holy by a long shot denounced the atrocities. The Priests just wanted to convert the natives to what they thought was the true religion.
@philipmarie1854 Plz fk the dirty godless church. If 2 thousand yrs of oppression, racism, slavery, greed, child rape and antisemitism cant beat into your thick skull the notion that the catholic church is nothing but a cult of pedophiles bent on bending the world to their will for their benefit nothing will. They say when union soldiers came through the south to free slaves some of the slaves wept for their masters.....I can hear you weeping for yours.
All the orchestra were passionate about the music and they all gave life affirming gorgeous concentrated professional performances. The Asian flautist girl must have started to cry when i did. Ennio snook away quickly after a few handshakes.Simply a genius.Just hope he composes some more beautiful music. The world's soul needs it and we all do so we can create a more beautiful planet for our children and their children in turn.
Oboist YEON-HEE KWAK has performed as a soloist include the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, the Arcata Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart, the Camerata Hanseatica in Gdansk Danzig, the KBS Seoul Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, the German Chamber Academy in Neuss ,the German Bach Soloists , Haydn Orchestra in Austria and the Norrkoeping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. Since 2007 Yeon-Hee Kwak plays the Ludwig Frank Oboe.
Oboist Yeon-Hee Kwak was a member of the Radio Orchestra of Bayerischer Rundfunk and lectured at the Stuttgart and Munich Colleges of Music. Ms Yeon-Hee Kwak lives in Munich, Germany.
The movie was essentially about the pillage and forced change of life to the native indians by the spanish. For me the bongos represent their inner strength and that their plight and their ,culture and spirit can't be destroyed even before most of them and their way of life was as shown in the film.

I just received the DVD from Amazon.com last weekend and listened to it immediately. Morricone conducts Morricone. Recorded live at the Philharmonie im Gasteig, Munich, 20 October 2004. This recording is track 22 and concludes the DVD.
This song is beautiful. It's the majestic sound to life. Congratulations to this great genius Ennio Moriconi. It is impossible not to cry in these moments.
@tequiness061 I would ask the same... WHY??? but, probably some heavy-trash metal freaks full of artistic prejudice, or someone that really dislikes life and its beauty.... only explanation I can find, thou. :-/
Now I do not know know much about musical instruments, but know what decent music is and I have to say into this song the one instrument that hits it home is that "single" flute at 3:13. I think for 9:34 I forgot about the troubles in life ect. Great theme, great movie!!!
empathy (from pathos) and compassion is within mankind and humanity if you are not moved by this piece of art it simply means you are a borderline phsycopath, and mankind is none of your business, as you should leave at once!

I watch these live concerts and think to myself, "I wonder if the musicians feel they are performing music written by a modern day master of his art?" Do they feel they are priveliged to perform what may be described as this generation's "classical composer" works?
@AbeGrimes Yes you can tell by the way Yeon-Hee Kwak ROCKS Gabriel's Oboe, and that Blonde Lady with the glasses by her smile and I was just literally blown away by the standing of the Choir at 4:46 looking past the french horn players. Every member of the church choir KNOWS they're making all the difference in the world. The Royal Priesthood. These aren't the 2nd stringers, of course they recognize Ennio Morricone.
Hearing this me brought tears to my eyes, but no the painful ones, but those that you shred when you realize that living is worthy just for feeling emotions like only Mr. Morricone can make you feel...bravooooooooo and thanks for ever Master of Masters
First heard Yo Yo Ma's BEAUTIFUL adaptation of original; then found (I think) original movie score - most disappointing! Good lord, this is beautiful. Yes, that oboe player is divine. Munich at this time? wow, I'll be there and as a composer, I've got to look her up. What musicality and phrasing. Wonderful!
@vice151 Y que lo digas...ésto es música llevado a un punto infinito...si hay que definir música no hay más remedio que contestar poniendo éste audio.
@2emmagine It's the way Yeon-Hee rocks. My sister Mary used to rock me in a rocking chair listening to the Beatles. At the 1:56 mark in particular we are all eyewitness to religious ecstasy. It's not just how the music sounds, it's how it feels, an overall presentation.
I beg to differ. Love means never having to say you're sorry, btw & fyi.
@juicer404 That's Yeon-Hee Kwak playing Gabriel's Oboe. Originally from Seoul Korea (how's that for poetic justice?) she now teaches music at the university of Munich. I think her facebook page is public.
You could play it on a cheap keyboard just pop in the oboe setting!

I don't think most of you understand quite how hard the oboe is to play. It takes a lot of air pressure and very good control of your lips. It is amazing to hear her play, but if you knew how hard the oboe is, you might think it is even more amazing.

This is so beautiful!! I never undesrtood why this movie and the soundtrack were not so famous. There are people that never even heard about this movie. Yet it is not an empty action movie that make headlines worldwide. The whole story behind "The Mission" is so true and deep. Focusing in this type of beauty makes the world a better place, instead of just emphasizing the ugly, gory and bad. It seems that there are a culture of the ugly out there, but this movie/music is a culture of the beauty!
@SuperTruthlover My friend whose videos I feature on my channel is a retired physicst and current Philosopher. Logic isn't my strong subject. This is. I've always loved Catholicism even though I was raised Protestant. I was ordained and then this movie was realeased. I just found out a couple months ago my cross is dedicated to Fr. Junipero Serra. Actually I recently found out that he set up the California Missions & was Beautified in '88. My son Jason was born Halloween '89. Peace
LA PERFECCION DE ESTA ORQUESTA ES PRACTICAMENTEUN FENOMENO PARANORMAL ...SI HAY ALGUIEN QUE PUEDE LLEGAR HABLAR CON SABIDURIA Y CREDIBILIDAD ACERCA DE DIOS , CREO QUE ES ESTE HOMBRE...
The Asian Oboe musician brought tears of beauty to my eyes as she not only played that instrument of heaven... she was playing my soul. The Ethereal Quality of an Orchestra cannot be overstated with it's many different voices in Concert together. Truly, if a Godly being listens, the rain that falls on parched dry drought stricken lands must be his tears of joy as this same music slakes my thirst for human beauty in a mostly tragedy laden world.
@ThBigEZsCadillacJack I put your comment on Yeon-Hee Kwak's face book page. I encourage all of us to be her friends and let her know exactly how we feel. Maybe more of us should be requesting the names of these wonderful musicans and sharing how big of a difference they've made in our lives.
@ThBigEZsCadillacJack Im a Filipino Catholic and i just want to say that I love your comment. If all people in this world have a heart like you, the love and peace will reign. God Bless you and your love ones.
Oh, Mr Ennio... You must have been in prayer when you wrote this song! Each time I hear it, I cry... not of sadness... it's just something special. God bless you always.
@RikiSmiley You can ask Yeon-Hee Kwak to be friends on facebook and thank her for making you cry, she'd love to hear from you! I posted this on her wall and 2 of her friends gave it a thumbs up. We're all one. If you send a friend request let her know that there are 200,000 people here you'd love to read a comment from her, please?
@shizzleman8 Hi! Thanks for the suggestion... but... I don't use Facebook, Tweeter or things like that. Whenever you contact her there (since you already posted in her page), let her know I thank God for her talent and that of those in the orquestra... and that she must have felt so priviledged to play such a heavenly piece. Blessings for you all :-)

Peace

This is heaven.. I am 35 years old man and I cry, when I hear this song.. WHY??
mikolaf 5 months ago in playlist Liked 2
@mikolaf 35 is a baby boy, there are people of 50/60 who cries like babies when hear Morricone. And cry all the way , 9:34 min to be exactly.
People say that Ennio didn't compose it. Actually, he stole the score from God when the Lord was sleeping.
