One of very few movies where i actually like the bad guy more than the good guy, since the good guy's not all that good. He's a jackass, and Dr. Horrible's a sweetheart.
I find it hilarious that this is everyone's Captian Hammer is a Jackass moment when it seems like every superhero has a moment where they are like "you are a hero too". His is just more selfcentered
The thing I find so confusing about this song is...I know we're probably supposed to think of Captain Hammer as an egotistical jerk who only cares about himself, but really, when he sings, I don't detect the faintest amount of sarcasm. Yeah, there are some lines that reveal is self-centeredness, but he doesn't try to hide them at all. I have a feeling this entire song is genuine, and he really thinks everyone's a hero.
@HypotheticalMuffins I've been thinking about this too. Hell, maybe the whole film is even deeper than it seems: Horrible it's supposed to be the villain, right? But he's charismatic, and Hammer, the supposed hero, is an asshole. Now, look at their intentions: Horrible still wants to conquer the world, however cool he may seem, and Hammer stopped Horrible from attacking the Memorial bridge, so in the end, Horrible is the bad guy and Hammer the hero, but their personalities are not stereotypical
This movie shows that the villain isn't always the bad guy. Dr. Horrible was definitely the good guy, while Captain Hammer's actually Sergeant Douchebag, because these aren't the hammer.
I used to hate Hammer as a character but he's grown hugely on me as hilarious. I think I either stopped taking the musical seriously or took it more seriously. I'm not sure which.
Oh god, I love how Hammer ends it perfectly when he pins down Horrible after he's unfrozen. I checked this file with the second half of act 3 and yeah, it matches up greatly.
@MikeOShay - Yeah, but that's the same thing as saying 'everyone's a hero in their own way,' just slightly less well-phrased and understandable. I also don't think the tunes match up.
@MikeOShay Well... a couple of seconds after "Slipping" ends, Hammer is able to knock Dr. Horrible out and finally sing the last word, which was, indeed, "WAAAAAAYYY!!!"
@nywies Of course you do. Bu if he died, the movie would be very happy-ending mainstream, which wasn't the point. this way there is a emotional ending that makes this very unique.
@nywies Where would the tragedy be in that? What should have happened was that Billy should have spent more time with Penny, she would have talked him out that whole villainy thing, and he would have become a better hero than Hammer.
@kittyanimeluvr90210 Scene, darling; the proper word is scene ^_^ But yes! I love it too, except for the part where he was a jackass and she got embarrassed :P

...strangley enough, this song is both inspirational and horribly degrating. The first time pride and jerkness were combined to form a flawless song.

@Scheme086 Isn't that part of the musical? If I remember correctly, he gets 'unfrozen' later in the musical and he finishes the song.
then again, it's been a while, so I may be totally wrong.
