UNREAL!!! Unfortunately for this MAGICAL song, it fell onto Eimear Quinn in '96, Eimear just COULDN'T lose that night!!! My top 10 all-time: 1st: The Voice ('90s) 2nd: Nocturne ('90s) 3rd: Den Vilda ('90s) 4th: Vuelve Conmigo ('90s) 5th: Hold Me Now ('80s) 6th: Alvedansen ('00s) 7th: Fiumi Di Parole ('90s) 8th: Volare ('50s) 9th: Insieme: 1992 ('90s) 10th: Keelatud Maa ('90s) The quality of the '90s' songs was UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Ripping off Enya and all the damn celtic music .....it sounds nice hearing, even pleasant in certain points, but that's unbelievably unoriginal , I'd say copied & robbed !!
Beautiful song, it has something Nordic about it, and makes me think about fairytales. Anyhow, what kind of rhytm does this song have? o_O It's not 4/4...
This song reminds me of the frozen pine forests and small villages in the north of Sweden with the northern lights flickering overhead. I have been to Sweden and it has the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Lovely song.
ps the celtic sound and the "nordic/scandinavian´" sound is pretty alike since we have been mixed for more than 1000 years.. im faroese/icelandic/swedish and in iceland and the faroes there is a lot of mixtures between the celtic and the "viking" history and traditions... so calling it a ripoff is just naiv... were not that far apart nor different you know...
1996, Scandinavia gave us 2 excellent songs: Den Wilda of course, Norway's one was also really beautiful. 1995, Danish singer Aud Wilken, with Fra Mols til Skagen was brilliant too.
and the snow become drifts along the roadside The hoofstomps still echoes among the mountains Playfully sorrowless, like a waterfall ; The night, it lowers its veil and erases the footprints ; Whereever they are they've got the strenght like the rapids in springtime ; There he's dancing with the wild one They're dancing like whirls in a waterfall Filled with pride and will dancing like whirls in a waterfall ; Filled with pride and will dancing like whirls in a waterfall
There he's dancing with the wild one They're dancing like whirls in a waterfall Filled with pride and will dancing like whirls in a waterfall ; But the rumours in the cottages spreads while the snowflakes are falling ; The stars sparkles against the ice like clear crystals ; There he flees away with the wild one They're rushing like whirls in a waterfall Filled with pride and will rushing like whirls in a waterfall ; The cab disappears in the night
Not a schlager, but still great song and performance...I'd like to hear Nanne at MF with song like "Den Vilda". It's better than swedish winning song from 1999 in my opinion. I really like it :)
Used to be my favorite song when I was a little girl, I remember that I used to walk around driving people crazy by "singing" this song all the time.
I love Melodifestivalen and Eurovision, it's a big part of my life. I'm glad to say this is definitly one of the best swedish melodifestival-vinners of all time! <3
Well done, One More Time! Many people in Sweden today seem to have forgotten about this marvelous performance when they talk about Nanne Grönvalls Melodifestival/Eurovision-history. It's all about "Avundsjuk" and "Håll om Mig", even though this song is so much better and actually won the Swedish Melodifestival and came third in the ESC! "Den Vilda" is awesome and I think it does sound very Swedish indeed. A good year for Scandinavia, 1996!
I cried when I first heard this small wonder of a song... Yeah, it sounds like Enya, but it's different anyway... Ireland was hard to beat that year, but this marvel and I evighet were worthy candidates for winning as well.
Simply awesome! Best Swedish entry ever if you ask me. Congratulations Sverige!

aquarious75 I understand you're British so you only know your home music and for all the rest you're totally ignorant, but calling Roxette or Ace of Base "ORIGINAL"
just underlines how low & poor is your music knowledge .
As for ABBA, they're the one real
great swedish music , but there's nothing more in that country.
Does this nice ripping sound original to your ears ? XDD
Put your "original" Roxette in stand by and check by listening Enya ( unless you don't know who she is ....) !
Obviously you're entitled to your own opinion but I would just like to point out that Sweden is the 3rd biggest exporter of music in the world after the US and UK and even though you might not find roxette or ace of base (both quite outdated by now) original, your comment about there being nothing more in that country just shows how ignorant you are when it comes to contemporary music, and the sheer scale of the swedish music industry makes me doubt that you've even listened to half of it.
@aquarious75 Hahahaha original the garbage of ace of base and their
pop house disco for teens of all that she wants ( actually their only one known song ) or the ordinary stuff
made in roxette which was nothing but a past & copy of abba except
it must have been love ?!?! DD sorry but actually you 're the one who looks from another planet when you dream about an original sound in this ripped song ;-)
Type google / celtic music , and good search to you ! D
Ps : obviously you need to go a llittle more depth into celtic music by typing words like mike oldfield , loreena mckennitt, enya and you'll be surprised from discovering by yourself how alike not to say identical sound this swedish group and those Celtic music artists .....;-) lol
@Kokka985 still we are the 3rd most music producing country in the world an we are smaller than the city of london... besides ace of base, roxette, europe and ABBA (which were pretty sucessfull) we have in more recent time Robyn, in flames, melody club, the sounds, the hives, mando diao, agnes, meshuggah, vains of jenna, crashdiet, dead by april and many more .. not to mention the producers and video directors and band members (example mickey dee drummer in motörhead).
Don't know if you've listened to really old Swedish ballads, obviously not, cause most of em got this music touch in it. Enya is born 61 roflmao. Who ripped who...?
This was such a great song. Its a pity i did not win. The norwegian song was good too but this was by far the best in 1996 and one of the best ever! Portugal was great too in 1996 but Ireland was just crap.

peter grönvall, son of Benny Andersson/ABBA did a VERY good job with this song. what a wonderful gift that talent impart from generation to generation.

What a nostalgic sound for me! I loved this song, and sang it at the 9th grade graduation concert at my school. Oh, the memories... :)

This song should have won! I guess the judges wanted something more popish. That sucks. Jag älskar Den Vilda!
