Who wrote this song? It is very good and real. It has truth, heart, and soul. Perfect. I am not going to condemn anyone that does not understand this song, because if you do this they will never understand. It reminds of Burl Ive's music. It is a very honest and truthful song. I never heard this song before, but it does reach my heart. It does. Are there any more songs like this one? I can feel this song in my heart and soul.:) Well done, Mr. Groban and you all. :)
A beautiful song from the most beautiful country in the world that also has one of the ugliest histories - South Africa. It was a product of its time, but still relevant today and not just in South Africa.
@gentlemortal Thank you, in turn, for a very gracious apology. I was probably too harsh on Josh. He's a fine performer and I think, really, what distressed me was the rather flaky ethos of The Late Show for this song. The lyrics have something very powerful to say about a ruling elite in fear of, and repressing, a population which was, in fact, in pain. Both Dan Heymann and the Drakies are S.African and it's their history. It's great, now, to see the black and white kids singing together.
@SanMattoma2 No, its not gay. This song was written about times during the apartheid in South Africa. It is a very powerful song, and please respect that, even if you don't like it.
This is a very mechanical "pop" rendering by Josh Groban, which robs the song of its strong emotions. It's far better sung by Bright Blue, the band which originally recorded it, with Dan Heymann, who wrote the song, on keyboard. It's also beautifully sung by the Drakensberg Boys' Choir. Both are available on YouTube and are far more worthwhile.
@gentlemortal Sorry you felt Josh was "insulted". It's because it's very much "my type of song" that I commented. Josh sings it OK but I was put off by the backing-group and the rather commercial feel. Probably unfair because it was The Late Show! Dan Heymann wrote it after being made to serve in the army under apartheid, repressing S.A.'s black population, and I think if you give it a commercial treatment you obscure the message. Check Bright Blue's and Drakensberg Boys' Choir purer versions.
this is a song who hurts and give hope at the same time!

@TheDemonpk3r It's a song about apartheid in South Africa. Check what the writer says here: weeping.info/Weeping-lyrics.html
His version with Vusi Mahlasela is also very nice.
