From this video it seems like they're good for knocking coins out of enemies during Blast Up.

not only does it chip away enemy health but once you use a handgun or ur grenade all that health turns into direct damage. Thus killing your enemy

@xXBoogiepopXx Machine guns are for Scratch Damage. Scratch damage breaks the armor so pistols can unleash maximum damage. For instance if you were to only use a pistol for a battle, you'd be doing about 5-10 damage a shot. With a machine gun user shooting them to full blue hp, a pistol will hit about 5+700 or even more depending on the monster.
