What a douchebag magician. It's stupid to do the trick yourself when there's really a spike in there, but making someone else take the chance with you is totally not cool.
True that the woman's flinch was what caused him to hit the wrong one, but it's still the magician's fault because it's his responsibility to ensure that there's no risk to the volunteer. He should have secretly removed the spike beforehand, or at least moved the spiked cup a safe distance to the side.

It's not the lady's fault she got hurt. A good magician always ensures there's no way a volunteer can be injured. Of course there's a chance they'll freak out and flinch. And people can't control their muscle reflex.
If you noticed, the lady at the end ruined the trick, it wasn't the magician's fault. The magician originally had her hand above the left cup...said 1, 2,...well at the last second she pulled away and went to the right cup..which had the nail in it. If she would have just trusted the magician and didn't pull away like that, it would've worked perfectly.
All the way through this video I was feeling really sympathetic for the poor woman who had her hand injured here... until she stated that because he didn't send her chocolates and flowers, he couldn't have really been sorry for what happened.
It doesn't matter if she pulled away or not. The magician has complete responsibility for his tricks. He should have known that the volunteer could possibly resist and change the direction of the hand. It's part of the risks of the trick, which the magician chose to gamble. With greater risk, the more skills it takes to succeed. And he was not skilled enough for this level of risk.

If she was applying force it was Against him - not down towards another cup - as she suggests herself was indeed the case - and that's leaving his strength versus her strength aside!
So, while it's not obvious, it seems MOST PROPABLE that the magician, through a complete error in his judgement, decided to Slam Down on the center (spiked) cup.

@0willsy01 Actually it isn't obvious what his intentions were - not that it matters now, but in my humble opinion as a magician who has seen this effect on numerous occasions, he Had had it in mind 2 collapse the Middle plastic cup (with both his & her hand - ladies 1st, of course :p), hovering above the other cup for counts *1 & *2 before *apparently* having a last minute change of mind on *3 -for Dramatic Effect. Look at His shift in upper body weight, firmly guiding Her hand.
