this is good--but the left is corrupted by magical neo-populist thinking you cannot educate by argument--it has to be experience--he in fact talks about this in part I --who is he talking to?
Wow. Parenti loves to make facts up to suit his own interests. The Prime Minister that Saddam attempted to assassinate (Abd al-Karim Qasim) was not democratically elected. He overthrew the existing monarchy and replaced the prime minister. He ordered the deaths of the Royal Family and the two prior Prime Ministers.
Qasim was overthrown by the Ba'ath party which eventually lead to Saddam taking power in 1979.
@TheRacistsMustDie It's interesting you say that. In comparison , your comment reminds me of the same thing said about edward gibbons's 1802 'the decline and fall of rome'. He included notes in which he was in communication with other worldly scholars in the confirming of his sources. The pattern I took note? how many of those , gibbons included , were yet alive when a stereotyped version 40+years later published by wtfdotgov? What do you think I think of awkward truths?
You'll probably never read this since you posted your comment 3 years ago, but what you don't understand is that the left/right paradigm is irrelevant. BOTH sides are controlled. Who is the mind between the left and right wings of the eagle? Who are the referees or team owners watching their football teams play? We all get caught up in the drama and the action, while those sitting above discuss in secret what they are planning for the future.
He hit the most important point at the end. Giving money to defeating propaganda. You can give all you want to your local food bank, but it's just a band-aid because the system stays the same, Defeating the propaganda is a prerequisite for changing the system.
Right and Left are not obsolete terms, it's just that there is no left. The economic order (capitalism) creates the political order - so everybody moves to the right, promoting free trade capitalism. See democrats in US, Blair's New Labour and the social democratic parties of Europe. Left is still relevant, but it's not acknowledged as a mainstream option.
yes, the left has revamped itself as a submissive participant in the hegemony of power in order to fight for light versions of what used to be its true ideals. *deep breath
@GerHoog So true. It's the same here in Germany with the SPD (which used to be the traditional worker's party). In the old days they actually took socialist positions and now they completely sold out to the neoliberal money-maniacs. Only the rhetoric is now social and democratic.
Right and Left are obsolete terms. The only thing I can't agree with him on is that the Democrats don't know what they're doing. He even says it about the Ronald Reagan and Bush Jr: they only ACT stupid so you ignore what they're ACTUALLY DOING (I'm paraphrasing). The Democrats are only there to serve as "proof" that government doesn't work. Sadly, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are and were cruel hoaxes.
well, this was back in 2007. We have learn more since this last election. Right and left have shown that they are full of it. We the people have to make a stand.......
Oh wow! Hotpotatomedia! Kewl - I like this production even more now! haha
Anyway - a comment, at 30:27 and other spots in the talk, it reminded me of Reverend Jesse Jackson - the one thing he ever said that I am behind whole-heartedly, is his trying to make people understand - it isn't about left or right - it is about class. (the class struggle, etc)
As the late great George Carlin said 'They don't care about you!!'
Thanks hotpotatomash(media) and Mike McCormick and TalkingstickTV !!!
The first part of this video is great, but the last part is nothing but right vs. left, Republican vs. Democrat nonsense. Like either party is really serving the people anymore. Notice he never mentioned when discussing Vietnam that it was started and scaled up when the Democrats had the White House. Korean War happened when the Democrats had the White House.
yeah, chomsky has a much better handle on that issue calling the parties, two factions of a single entity. chomsky also recognizes that imperialism does not operate via free markets even if empire likes to call them that, but that they are better described by the name 'state capitalism'. i'm also not too partial on the idea that labor unions can ever offer anything other than the illusion of autonomy. burn down the fucking factory and grow your own food, then and only then do you have autonomy.
THE issue to counter Capitalist right wing propoganda,is an important one. This is possible now on a scale never possible for the left until the internet.
We need a standard credible NEWS center like ALJEZERA,in which we can counter the systems
control of the media.
This should be just a diverse left wing responce to the right wing propaganda, and to keep the concept of educating the masses beyond the classical garbage they are fed,in the hope the struggle can enter a new phase in
If you are so talented at determining when a truth is actually a lie - use your skills to learn how to write better. What does "duke" mean in your comment?
If you really disagree with Parenti's speech - what details do you disagree with? If you CAN - watch other Parenti videos; i find many of them insightful.
I will say that i am a progressive thinker - so a liberal position is not hard to hear - many i even agree with.
you should go give speeches detailing your side...oh wait only ten people would come...oh wait that's called the MEDIA and most smart people take with a grain of sand...oh wait, you let it indocrinate you...oh wait you thought that what you are is called educated...I love it and your a moron who could never debate anyone.
Michael Parenti is a brilliant, passionate speaker who is deeply perceptive and tells it like it is. Listening to him I strongly get the sense that he takes the positions he does because he cares about people. His speeches are worth hearing more than once, so as to better retain their excellent content.
Thanks for the reference derekijgo. I'll check it out.

Free market capitalism is economic anarchy, and the proponents of this like it that way because it allows the IMF and others to plunder.

9/11 = INSIDE NeoCon Job
Who benefits?
mrzack888 4 years ago
exactly...declassified CIA documents should expose that as absolute proof in about 50 years.
jumpnjza2 4 years ago
My friend benefited when his wife was killed in an accident, he got a massive insurance payout. Does that mean he killed her?
911 needs more investigation, people may have known more than they said about it. But the idea that it was an inside job is so crazy (in my opinion).
How could they keep the hundreds of people who would be needed to plan everything quiet?
