@shaftninja Just noticed the shadow of your arm on the head of your kick drum on the left side of the screen. lol. Anyway, this is a great example of keeping things simple while adding your own flair. Sounds good dude.
at 2:15 i was scrolled down looking at comments and thats the sound my pc makes when it freezes so i freaked out for a second. but then it was cool lol.
any chance you are thinking about forming a group at some point, or do you enjoy the new challenges that sessions like these or pete peterson, etc. bring enough to not want that lifestyle?
@unmasked90 If you read one description, what prohibited you from reading another? You're literally two mouse clicks and some scrolling away from the answer.
Hey Trav, I'm thinking about getting a new drumset and doing a setup similar to yours, with 2 floor toms on both sides. Do you think I should have the hi-hat closer to the middle or the left side? (I'm a right-handed player) And any other suggestions/tips for playing with this kind of setup? Thanks for reading my comment!
@ThePhoenixThree Not that it's any of my business, but I thought the whole concept of this set-up was to encourage the development of ambidexterity. I've tried it a couple of times and I've realised that it can be quite difficult to place the pieces of the kit symmetrically. The hi-hat placements are horribly difficult to get to an ergonomic position. That being said, it was tremendous fun playing it. Try not to think of yourself as right handed. Two-legged hi-hat stands are a must though.
@Eleutherarch Agreed, but I managed to do the asymmetrical kit without two legged hi-hat, granted I only had one hi-hat, but I had a tom to my left, and a double bass pedal. So between those three, squished togethered, and still allowing myself room to get out because my drums were right next to my fridge...bit of a pickle, but the more impossible the setup, and you can pull it off? The better the drummer you become I think, eh (;.
@BashYouLongtime Yeah it's true. I've progressed so much more with a simplified set up. Well I feel like I have. You have a fridge next to your drums? Explain. Travis' set is unique but I don't think you need to integrate a fridge to make your drums more interesting :). Keep you cool though . . .
@Eleutherarch The fridge was next to my drums, what furthermore is there to explain? It holds the food that I eat. Oh right, you were waiting for me to tell you that my drums were also in my garage, next to the spare fridge, k. They are, and it actually doesn't keep you cool. Maybe an open freezer, but not a fridge. Hence the fan was setup on a table to my right to keep me cooler. The whole point of mentioning the fridge was to establish that it was a tight fit for the equipment AND fridge
@BashYouLongtime I know - I was kidding around. I just found the image in my head funny. Using coke bottles as accent FX sound sources inside the fridge door. Amusing. I wasn't trying to be offensive.
@Eleutherarch I know, I am still kidding around. As was I (not trying to be offensive as well), and that is a eureka. I do have coke bottle upstairs. Too bad I never brought them down, even if they would have broken. But I have sold my kit.
@badboyblackett One, he was more than likely never contacted, two, he'd need to totally change his setup and it's just not his style of playing, and three, I doubt Travis would feel musically challenged and stimulated by the music. Fast sixteenths get old quickly.
@Mp5Drummer Finally..someone who understands. lol I mean the Rev sure was creative for his music genre and I respect for how far he got with his career but the amount of fame he got is a bit overrated.
@xmt24o When, when you hear that his number one influence was Mike Portnoy, and you take upon yourself to go and listen to Mike Portnoy, you will understand that he was basically a copy of Mike Portnoy, but not playing in prog, therefore, why not? "Ooohh, he CHANGED metal," not exactly, he was just putting different styles together, and not to discredit the man-it was smart, it made him famous, and he was a good drummer. But that basically is what happened there, ya know? Either way, RIP.
@badboyblackett why the fuck would i walk about a guitarist on the drummers video? The Rev wasn't an amazing drummer like everyone thinks. Travis has more talent in his left testicle than the Rev had in his body.
@cursethetide507 Okay clearly you don't get what I meant by that statement... but what I'm trying to say is yes I agree with you the rev wasn't that good which is why if Avenged Sevenfold had Travis Orbin as their drummer I would be hoping that A7X's music would be enhanced by an immeasurable amount from having such a beast of a drummer.
@aphat true true, but I mean imagine how much better off Avenged Sevenfold would be for having Travis Orbin as their drummer!! (although I do understand it would never happen :( )
So I'm here watching T.O. vids back to back because I sliced my thumb at work last night and just realized I won't be drumming for a couple days. Not before a painful attempt, of course.
@inimicalODDITY Take this with a grain of salt (everyone), but you'd perhaps be surprised at the amount of pain your body can get accustomed. I've practiced/performed through SERIOUS blisters, bruised fingers, sore hands, skin split from cold weather, etc. It ain't a picnic at first but then the sensation magically goes away, hah. Again, not advocating - but I haven't been further/seriously injured by ignoring the lesser wounds.
@shaftninja It's true! I was putting icy hot near my groin for a sore muscle and then I went to play drums and it got to my balls. Which were soon ON FIRE! Omg it hurt but then eventually I'm like nothings gonna make it better so then i learned to ignore my balls that were burning :)
@shaftninja I am usually pretty darn good at bearing pain, but in this case I couldn't get the cut to stop bleeding! I have actually seen a picture of this gnarly blister you said you recorded Bugz(?) with. After that, my notion of discipline was changed.
Hi Travis! 2 questions :-
1. When can we expect "Far Out"?
2. Will you be on bandhappy?
