  • hyneas might not be eager to attack lions, especially not males......but ill tell you one thing, they are never scared! i seen a couple vids with them actually "fighting" male lions

  • team work..

  • really good video....I was sorta scared watching it lol...

    too much growling

  • i give that 5 star and if i was a lion i wouldve of bit it on the bum and killed 1 then not sure but great vid anyway!seeya:)

  • Most predators in general hunt in packs, so I won't say lions are cowards for doing that. I just don't understand why everyone considers hyenas to be worthless scavengers and not lions. Lions scavenge kills just like hyenas

  • it took those hyenas long enough to take over what was a pile of bones in the end,I thought with those numbers they would have taken that kill earlier.

  • WOW

    GOOD VIDEO

  • if there was fully grown male lions there it would of been a diffrent story

  • The cameraman tremble in the best part... its a video made by a tourist, but its awesome!

  • Maybe that hyena which is missing his leg, was bitten off by a lion.

I have a pity for him...

  • watch at 2:22 the hyena is missing his leg. Also at 2:26 to 2:28 you will see is leg is missing. That is so trippy! How did the hyena lose his leg...

  • the hyena is just limping :)

and that's not the only one that's limping. I guess they are afraid, the lion could attack them at any moment.

  • your both wrong, the walking with one front foot in the air, is used as a signal by the hyena's to coordinate a concentrated attack, notice they start forming into one area where they are walking with the one leg lifted, and then attack all together from there

  • One more male lion or two to three more female lions would have ward off any attempted steal made by the hyenas. The hyenas practically had their whole clan there. Actually, two mature male lions would have also ward off any attempted hyena steal. Although there is strength in numbers, a lion pride at full strength versus a hyena clan at full strength will always result in a lion win.

  • very true but the hyenas are only at a disadvantage when the male lions are around.

  • Hyenas are super predators, love them...They are clever, strong and charismatic.Single hyena can kill gnu and pack of hyenas kill buffalo...Thanks God- people see true, not stuppid stereotips! Only dumb people hate this amazing animals!

  • I agree hyenas are amazing animals and the myth of them scavenging is false they hunt more and have a better success rate than lions and its lions who scavenge from hyenas more. Lions are impressive tho majkongg.

  • They sounded like a bunch of monkeys.

Are Hyenas family with dogs or cat animal?

  • The weasel family but actually closer to cats than dogs.

  • I was really surprised that three lionesses held off THAT many hyenas for as long as they did. Though I suppose it's because no hyena is eager to be the first to charge them.

  • I love hyenas... Despite popular belief they are extremely good hunters and they scavenge when they can as you can see.

  • great vid man! I'll give this 5 stars! camera man 5 stars too!

  • that would be amazing to watch in real life

  • nice to see a vid where the hyenas own for once, :) rock on

  • Incredible how they work together to get their food.

  • The hyenas need a 3 or 4 to 1 number advantage in order to overpower the lions. Still, two adult males have nothing to fear and hyenas will rarely if at all attack adult male lions.

  • amazing. I hope you guys understand how lucky you are to have seen this. A nature spectacle

  • lol hyenas are awesome... i noticed there was a jackel at the end close to the hyenas

  • Lol so many hyenas and i took them time to scare away 3 female lions :D if a big male whas there the hyenas pack would be running cus the male lion attack with no merssy

  • hyena's are incredibly loud its how they intimidate other animals.

  • I just stumbled across this video and that was amazing...that those hyena's overpowered those lions and they ran away, wow!

  • yea... 25 hyenas vs 3 female lions that are full from eating and tired from the hunt. 1 on 1 hyenas dont stand a chance. or 25 hyenas vs 3 male lions..and the hyenas will get a whoopin

  • wow i donnt belive that camera man still a live

  • belive it or not, hyenas accually have a stronger bite then tigers, and most crocodiles

  • what animal family does the hyena fall into?

  • They timed the attack perfectly, the Lion knew they had no chance

  • nice video...the other two felines backed away left the third feline all by herself, thats why the hyenas moved in. lucky for her she didnt get seriously injured, as it could have happened facing a flock of hyenas all alone

  • That was surprising. I was thinking the lions would win, but they got out numbered.

  • Good video A+

  • How far was this cameraman, I am a bit curious

  • They arrive. They create a chaotic incressendo of laughs, growls and barks. They unleash hell. They take over. They devour every gut and crush every bone. They own!!!

  • This is amazing. Shows you that at the end of the day bottom line is numbers. I noticed one with an injured leg From 2:22 to 2:28. Also the vulture and was it a wolf was also around. It was interesting.

  • Thats a great lesson on team work.

  • i know it's the act of mother nature but i hate hyenas, lions r beautiful animals well all animals r in their own way but i just don't like hyenas great vid though

  • Ultimte pack hunter

  • i wonder why the hyenas where all acting like they where hurt , they would all limp on 3 legs as they got near the lions

  • This is very strange to me. I have always thought that the lion cannot be challenged. Apparently the heckling/giggling by the hyena scares the lion. I now have respect for the hyena.

  • Great Footage...

  • its funny how many people consider the hyena more of a scavenger when in reality they do more hunting than lions but here they were opurtunistic lol

  • Hyenas are such insidious and coward animals..Look at this video..There came at least 20 hyenas to take the food from 3 Lions. They are pathetic and weak animals...I love when Lions kill them!!

  • great footage

  • tanzania is verry atractvive as you can see.this shows a real life of goads creations

  • autentic! great video ..team is power

  • why do hyenas laugh for no reason even when they're about to get killed it seems like they're high all the time.

  • i love africa

  • What a technique!

  • do u know that hyenas are the the only animal that eating its victim alive.

    thats bad among animals

every animal kill its victim first , then eat it.

i think hyenas are worest animals

  • victorious for hyenas.. size doen not matter.. even though u r big.. u can be a loser too.. but one thing for sure.. quantity will bring up the strength

  • i remember watching a doco once and some hyenas injured a female lion so one of the male lions went to the hyena hangout and killed their queen with one blow and they hyenas didnt do it again

  • I hate hyenas purely because they're scavangers, as you just saw. they rarely, if at all hunt their own food.

  • By the looks of that zebra carcass and those lions' bellies, I think they had enough to eat already, anyway, LOL!

Did you notice the jackal in the background? (1:42) He won't approach the lions, but comes closer once the hyenas have control.

And there's one hyena who appears to be tremendously pregnant. :-)

  • Seves the lions right for stealing their meal. I guarantee the lions did nto kill that animal, they stole it from the hyena's

  • Hey, hyenas aren't stupid. They waited until the lions had fed well and until the hyena numbers were high enough to drive the lions off. Also, no mature male lion was present or things might have ended differently.

  • wild dogs are better then hyenas!!!

  • Beautiful (and brave) footage. LOL@2:51.

  • hyenas don't attack without warning if they wanna attack someone of something they'll laugh none stop.. in this case they're fighting for food with the lions.. you can listen to their laughs. if it's none stop it'll atack soon.

  • wow, um, lions are one of my favorite animals and they just let themselves get owned by a pack of second rate carnivores. I dont know why one lion didnt leave the kill and swat a couple of the hyenas to let them know they meant buisness. Oh well, great video though!

  • wtf? hyenas just stole the lions meal? no way!!!! poor kitties lol

  • strength in unity..

  • they sound like a dog and a pig in one. terrible creatures.

it's a misunderstanding btw that they are scavengers. in all lions steal their kills more often then vice versa

  • wow that was cool. there is power in numbers.

  • i had seen a similar situation on discovery, where the lioness ran away, then when the lion came the hyenas moved back and started harassing the lion.but the lion killed one hyena and the rest of the hyenas ran away leaving the entire kill for the lion

  • I think it might be interesting to analyze their tactics. Humans always assume they have nothing to emulate, cerebrally, from animals. I don't know but I wonder if a tactical analysis would reveal anything sophisticated here.

  • I like the jackals in the background trying to get in on the action. They were probably betting on which side would win.

  • They exhausted the lions with their funny noises, and all the running around them, then made their move! Brilliant!

  • amazing video !!

    thank you

  • Awesome video ! Never heard a Hyena...very weird sounds

  • While the lions are bigger, stronger, more agile, are better hunters overall, hyenas have number, endurance and especially their jaws over the Lions. Their bites are amongst the most powerful on earth. So the lions, in this particular situation, can't even risk a fight... so they retreat...

  • Usually it's the other way around - the hyenas make the kill and the lions bluff them away from the corpse. I guess what goes around comes around. :)

  • This is what I call "team work"! Great video.

  • Hyenas are actually larger than I had orginally thought!

  • very good video

  • Damn! It cut out, what happened? Did the group of hyena just scare the lions away? I wanted to see a gang fight! lol

  • Man i love this. Am so in love with lions and there life style. Eat and sleep

  • hahah, camera man got panic!!! when hyena attacking the lioness

  • Yeha they are pretty awesome. One of the best predators with an 80% success rate in killing and capturing their prey.

  • Hyenas are disgusting and sound creepy too

  • why is this giving you respect for hyenas? of course the lions didn't have a chance... there were 20 hyenas against 3 lions. I wish all hyenas were dead

  • No offense, but I think few people would substitute the dog for the hyena. Who could stand that loud laughter-like noise. Besides, they are plain unsightly. Though I do respect it, for being such a tough animal.

  • No wild animal can EVER be tamed. You've seen them as pets, maybe, but not tamed.

  • sorry but how can you have more respect for them? there just scavengers! i mean i like them and everything, but i wouldnt say i respected them for stealing another animals food...

  • respect for an animal that doesnt bother to hunt and just steals food??

  • i have no respect for thieves and scoundrels

  • favorite animal.....hehe why? =)

  • if they are tamed then that is not the animal you love then isnt it that they should be wild and act like a wild animal thats what is beautifull about them , not when they can be petted like a dog

  • Do you know that some people in inner cities in Africa actually use hyenas as 'guard dogs' the way pit bulls are used in USA. The chains used on hyenas have links 8 inches around. Let me tell you, it's a scary thing to see.

  • yea, beautiful they are

  • they sound like monkeys

  • yeh but one hyena is usless .

    they work as a team...

  • Why does everyone hate hyenas?? Looking at them compared to a lion makes me think that hyenas are the cutest things in the world.

  • I love em 2, nothing stronger than a hyenas jaws

  • hyenas are wild and vicious creatures, and they will ever be. they'll just look tame if they can get something from it.

  • i wouldn't say "tame", but yea, all canines r social creatures. u can train them to be companions. u can train a coyote, a hyena, even a wolf to be a companion. as long as u kno what ur doin.

  • Hyena's hunt on their own, but they're famous for being scavengers, which to me is a low form of life. There's like 20 Hyenas, why can't they hunt their own meals? Damn thieves.

  • no wild animal can be truly "tamed".

  • hyenas are the terrorists of the savannah, they both deserve to be hunted and left there for an example, lions never eat the hyenas they kill, only to make a point and because of the utter despise for these pack rats

  • I agree, tetmupco,Hyenas are amazing! People want to project human qualities onto them,so they are viewed as ruthless bad guys. That stupid Disney movie didn't help either.

  • Amen to that. THis is a nice video, there aren't many that show an entire clan in action, let alone in a decent light. There are just too many lions bullying hyenas, not enough hyenas bullying lions =3

  • Same here. studies say Hyenas posses certain querks that sudjust there right up there with primates when it comes to intelligence.

  • Hyena's always giggle! Lions are so cool though! They stood their ground until the last minute, even though they were outnumbered! If they stuck around they'd have their limbs crushed in an instant by that giggling pack!

  • Ya i kno its like they were taunting them :P lol

  • Lol yeah

  • damn you, u stole my commentary

the hyenas laugh at the lions at the end
