@gford816 Do you have a source for those tank-badges? Couldn't get a hold of one of these, seems to be very rare :-(
There are only the ones wich have "Royal Enfield" or just "Enfield" embossed and in poor quality. The ones with "Enfield India" seem to be a rare find though.
Because these machines are made in a 3rd world country, most people are poor so Bullets made there are built down to a price, a very low one. To save costs quality control is very patchy as is the standard of components used in the motor. It would seem that instead of good quality tool steel they use mild steel for parts. The company heads have also changed the design frequently & not always for the good. One of their problem designs is the Over Pressure Valve in the oils system pre-UCE engine.
I just used some seconds of a song and they bann it?! WTF, the full song is still available on YT... FUCK YOU UMG, FUCK SONY, FUCK YOU ALL!!!
May I just ad a little quote: "Take 'em all. Take 'em all. Put 'em up against the wall and shoot 'em. Short and tall. Watch 'em fall. Come on, boys, take 'em all!"
Great video. I have one of the few 350 Standards that are here in the USA. Bought it new in 1999 and now 14000 miles. In those 14000 miles no major problems and now totally sorted out and running better than ever. Replaced the restrictive long export muffler with the shorter original. Running a 95 main jet 3.0 slide and needle position one groove richer. It is giving very dependable service.
Excellant review, and thanks for doing it in English. It reminded me of the show "Tope gear", I loved the fact that you filmed the bike actually moving from many angles and then weighed up the pros and cons, much better than the usual here on youtube... Someone that doesn't know what they'e talking about with a low quality camera stood next to the bike. Thanks again!
@grumbern Thank you for this excellent review & insight into how the bike feels & sounds on the road. I am having an Enfield built for me converted to diesel engine, & your review helped towards choosing the appropriate gearing for the diesel, since with the same 16 tooth gearbox sprocket as the 350, the diesel will achieve the same 55 mph cruise speed @ 3600. (most conversions have the 18 or 19 tooth sprocket, which is far too high) Thank you. : )
I don't think the 350 will have that much of a problem. The 500 is stronger of course, but the 350 can rev higher and is more of a sprinter and also said to be more durable than the 500, especially the crankshaft bearings.
Go for a 350, stay away from the 500 its too reliable. And for christs sake, stay under 50kmh, or your bike will break. Better yet, get a 350 and upgrade the crankshaft, big end and conrod, the indian alloys are a mixture of mud and soft butter.
If you get a 500, dont go anywhere near 30kmh, or the big end bearing, piston and god knows what will break. I know what i am talking about. My first engine lasted 10.000kms, the next one 3500.
@meharidude Yes, I'll keep the 350. No, I won't stay under 50km/h, because then I couldn't use the third an fourth gear. No, my bike has not broken yet nor have many others. If yours didn't last that long, you either had terrible bad Luck or did something really wrong.
You know, driving with too low revs can damage the bearings... 2000-4000 per minute might be a good choice.
@meharidude There are many 500cc Bullets running without any problem. I guess you were really unlucky, since there are many others who don't have those problems.
Whats the truth is the fact, that the 500cc puts more wear to the bearings, especially when driven with too low revolutions. It's allso very important to drive it right the first hundred kilometers, when it's new.
Well, I would guess 130 is way too much for an unmodified 350. But 110 is possible for short peridos with the right transmission ratio, I'd say. The maximum speed is given with 120, but I wouldn't go that far. I allready have a tooth or two more on the gearbox sprocket and it's best driven between 90 and 100. More would be bad for the motor, I guess (see the speedometer in the video!).
I personaly would choose the Standard, the Electra has discbrake and stuff, is a little more modern and the paintjob is more colorful. But I guess it doesn't make much of a difference.
sie sieht sehr schon aus! .. aber motorradfahren im bavaria ohne helm??? :)
in the past I have owned a couple of REs myself.. the first mistake I made was to hit the neutral lever really hard.. it went straight from 4th gear to first! and I went right over the top to the tarmac!
its great to see bullet enthusiasts all over the globe !! I myself own the RE Standard 350cc (4 gears right shift) & RE Machismo 500cc (5 Gears left shift)
This is the best Enfield review on Youtube. Thanks for sharing it.

The 350 is supposed to be a better engine, and my comment concerned the 500.
I did everything by the book, i do hope that i was very unlucky.

ok, i am gonna be buyin the Standard RoyalEnfield Bukket 350 In Black :D....
Thanks for helpin out mate..
Peace Out..

the electra has a better ignition and more chrome. the engine is otherwise identical.
i'd suggest the standard if ur in for "originality" and the electra cos the quality control is better.
don't go for the 5-speed or electric start - they lose the original charm.
