  • @strykah92 theres no grass in youtube

  • DK Dreamcast had no swirl

  • reminds me of the seal on naruto's belly o.o

  • Dreamcast Development Box, wut.

  • @cookingboy3 It's what Sega used to develop the games before and after the Dreamcast was released to the public.

  • Hello,

do you have a Dreamcast with this BootScreen? Can you sell it to me?

    Björn

  • blue is superior and the logo and sfx are great

  • @ANTINULLdotcom screw blue its not cute is garfildish im nermal and i like red go home you are uncute

  • @MrTweety2707 wouldn't garfield like the orange one? lol

  • @ANTINULLdotcom its red not orange

  • @MrTweety2707 so sorry, it looks very orange next to a red swatch

  • I honestly think that the Dreamcast swirl looks 1000x better in blue

  • Hello

how can I change the startup screen?

  • @Bjoern020184 mmmonkey. co .uk /console/ sega/dc-dev-bios. htm remove spaces

  • Comment removed

  • @Dekorad what the FUCK is the point of adding spaces in these links?

  • Someone needs to find a way to flash home consoles to display this!

  • This should have been on the consoles!

  • The best console EVER made. Too bad, it's gone

  • Men i Love Music is a Dream

  • The blue dreamcast swirl is the Dev.console (Europe only)

  • @TheManofthefuture101 Also Australla had the blue swirl.

  • @TheRaker55 Because Australia's stuff is made by us, just rebranded and re-licensed. xD

  • Wasn't the launch Dreamcast sort of a dev box since it could run backups/homebrew from the get go.

  • What is Sega Dreamcast Development Box?

  • @Wargod12344 It was the development kit given to other video game companys so they could make games for the Dreamcast, hence the name "SEGA Dreamcast Development Box". All systems have development kits for their own systems so companys can make games for them.

  • sound effect cool.

  • apparently just changing a value in the BIOS rom with a hex editor can change from a red swirl to a blue swirl.

  • i have 2 blue PAL versions, i didnt even know there was a red one till yesterday

  • @FlashFireSix Had 5 blue PALs, and 2 red swirls. lost em in a move though. Was super pissed

  • @n00oob Why have 7 Dreamcast systems? Where are your pronouns?

  • @Ohsta6t2 I had them because I collected them... Derp.

  • my friend's got a dreamcast, and the swirl is blue because we both live in England.

  • Blue..Looks so odd with the Dreamcast, which is odd since Sega's color is blue.

  • actually.. I prefer this one over the actual boot screen

the music is like.. 'Dreamcast, full force ahead :D'

  • can you download this start up screen onto your dreamcast? If so, where?

  • You can download the video to hear it again, but you cannot put it in your DC, it is impossible to customize the menu.

  • i have a us dc cuz i lve in texas (im 10)

  • fuck you and die

  • NTSC Dreamcast Had the red swirl

PAL Dreamcast had the blue swirl

  • Kinda feels like its only sold in japan.

  • This is pretty. I'm going to use this video as my psp bootup screen. Thank you.

  • @Mynameischriso you can use vids as Psp bootup screen?... i have an Flashed psp.. but... i never get how this works..

  • some1 needs to somehow mod a DC to get this boot screen

  • I totally agree I would LOVE this flashed to my DC.

  • I actually prefer the Orange. For two reasons:

    1. It stands out and catches the eye on the white startup screen and the console.

    2. It's the first one I saw... and during the console's launch, that symbol was everywhere. I didn't know about the blue logo until at least a few months after launch.

  • But blue is Sega's colour, shame the PAL consoles didn't have a blue LED as standard.

  • True, but before blue Sega consoles had red on them. Red and black all over the Master System, Model 1 Genesis/Megadrive, and all over their cartridges. Doesn't hurt to change things up.

  • i am so happy that in my hometown(Phillipines) they still sell very old stuff, like the atari to the ps2.

  • thats where i came from too!!!

  • Meh. ALL the Dreamcast logos should've been blue. It suits Sega better.

  • @strykah92 No. The swirl looked better in red.

  • @Ohsta6t2 To each his own, but the Dreamcast didn't look like a Sega console to begin with imo, and that unfitting red swirl really didn't help. I also hate that the American Mega Drive is called Genesis, seriously, Genesis? Sounds like some shit out of Star Trek.. Mega Drive on the other hand is just so.. MEGA!

  • @strykah92 Yes. They could have called the American Mega Drive the Sega Drive. Genesis would be a fitting name for a first console. But, look. The swirl looked better in red because it just did. Just like how the Dreamcast looks better in white or the PS2 which looks better in black.

Emotionally, it's also possible that blue means depression and "low" emotions while red could mean vivid, irregular ones. Therefore, the swirl would be depicted with the definitions of red as in a "dream".

  • @Ohsta6t2 To be fair, either colour suited the logo. Red, as you said, and Blue, because that is predominantly the colour of Sega. And I grew up with that swirl, but...

  • @strykah92 ...go glad i live in the UK. got a nice blue swirl :D

  • @raveakidd You just love the color blue don't you?

  • @strykah92 in america they had copyright issues on the blue swirl.

  • @cokacutter Actually the American swirl was planned to be red from the get go, it's because some German corporation had an orange swirl as their logo and looks very similar.

  • @strykah92 Especially when you consider the colour of Sega's mascot, Mr. Needlemouse (Originally planned name for Sonic)

  • @Swampert384 Indeed, but I was thinking more the colour of Sega's logo in general

  • @strykah92 I like the red Dreamcast logo too,but blue does suit SEGA Better.

  • @strykah92 I BETTER idea is when u get it it should ask What color then it restarts

  • @strykah92 It doesn't suit the swirl logo, however.

  • @Capsoul7

Depends really, I will admit it would've never have worked on Arsenal's shirt back when they were sponsored by Sega lol, but overall I find it to be less generic.

  • @strykah92 It could have been coloured white on Arsenal shirts.

  • @strykah92 the pal dreamcasts were suppose to have a red swirl but another company had a red swirl so they made it blue for copywright reasons

  • @strykah92 If you ask me it also suits the DREAMcast theme better.

  • @strykah92 and thats because the sega logo blue ?

  • @Farie977

No, I uh.. came to that conclusion because um.. the grass is green.

    *looks around shiftily*

  • can you show us the Inside part (play, music, file, settings) on it? .

  • dreamcast dev.boxes? what are those? anyone know? i'll make my all base belong to u! :D

  • They are tower PC lookalike machines which have a Naomi board installed (roughly same device as Dreamcast, except more memory), with a GD-ROM drive in them and a port in the back to connect to a special computer card for debugging.

  • @OKSStudios its used for developing games i think...

  • i like the music that plays while it swirls.

the only game console i had when i was younger was a playstation 2.

  • Should have gotten a dreamcast. its the Playstation 2's fault the console didnt sell well. And the fact piracy was too simple for the poor console.

  • why couldn't the swirl be blue on us dcs?

  • I made a stereo version of this video out of the mono sound. Please check it out :).

  • I used to always want a dreamcast when i was litlle because my step sister had one.

  • OH MY GOD! I'm still such a big fan of Sega Dreamcast! *.* The Dreamcast is such a desirable video game console? ♥ The games are great and everything else =) I'll do anything just to get nother one! ^ ^

  • Damn Tivola! If they didn't have the orange swirl, this logo would look cooler. But the blue swirl is ok enough for me.

  • i really like this startup. In-fact, it looks more technically advanced than the one they actually used, however, the one that they use now is way more atmospheric.

    Tom

  • You're saying that this one is more playful than the other one?

  • What is this???

Im in Europe, but the start was the same as the American, except it was blue....

  • It's the startup screen of the 'Development Box' Dreamcast that Game Developers would of used to aid them in developing Dreamcast games. Hense the title; "Dev.Box Startup".

The startup animation is most likely different because the 'Development Box' would of needed to be shipped out to developers way before the retail Dreamcasts. SEGA likely changed it for the retail Dreamcasts in the final stages, after the 'Development Boxes' were already released.

  • they should kept that start up.lol to bad it was only a concept swirl start up.lol

  • actually the red swirl is for america and the blue swirl was for europe

  • my friend actually cry`ed when he saw this video.cause his dreamcast do not work at all.its comes on but it don`t read any c d`s.lmao

  • It wasn't a concept. They actually used that animation for the boot up of the Development Dreamcasts.

Someone at SEGA most likely ordered a change for the retail Dreamcasts after developers development Dreamcasts (shown) were already released.

  • so...they just change the boot?

  • So the development box was avalible in Europe.

  • yep, but it also had a switch on the front to change regions.

  • sega deserves it, who the f*** is tivola?

  • tivola is a family publishing company in germany.

  • Awesome!

  • this is the best sega startup!!!

  • i wish i could get my nulldc emu to boot a game with these bios. :(

  • Whoa, I want a dev kit. id make some bad ass games.

  • If there is only one thing Sega did great, its boot ups. This and the official Dreamcast boot ups are cool, the US Saturn one i love!

  • I like the music for this one

    Its nostalgic =D

  • I heard that orange is a lucky color for japanese... :) Wikipedia-Dreamcast

  • DC just rocks.

  • Oh My God?This is a Perfect Intro?

    I love it!

  • I think it was a deliberate choice, as to say "Look at this FULLY POLYGONAL swirl!"

  • you have this dev unit???

  • i realy want this for my dreamcast

  • I wish they used that startup for european dreamcasts.

  • i Would kill for that startup. sounds for friendlier than your avg. DC Startup ,

  • Is it possible to flash this startup on a normal dreamcast?

  • I think you could but you need some special programs to do it.

  • the return of dreamcast is now only a dream

  • i love that!! its osunds soo coolll!!! =D

  • a very bright and friendly startup ... still believe that the dreamcast is the most underrated console ever ... if sony wouldn`t had the name playstation, sega had kicked their ass ... i always see the two xbox consoles as the unofficialy legacy of the sega consoles :D

  • same here, agreed with evrythin you said thar

  • best startup ever

  • For the uk / europe consoles in dev. :l And the red one is the American dev box aswell.

  • no1 cares deathkid.

  • Japan used the RED swirl like the US. PAL areas like Europe and Australia used the BLUE swirl.

  • This is the BEST SCREEN EVER.

This should've been the ACTUAL startup

  • 4D? hahaha thats so classic, even on the PS3 and 360 the trees look like cardboard. Technology really hasnt changed now has it, these companies try to do the impossible, but never think to try and improve the most common sense cases.

  • The thing is though, if you are going to compare say the PS1 agianst the dreamcast, it would be unfair, due to the fact you comparing 2 machines which were made in far different years and parts used.

If you discussed what shud of been used and what could be made to make a console beta extra, then that would be counted as part of the convo and would lead to others expressing their views with a decent flow of a convo.

  • whoa how much did i miss here lol. I totaly forgot bout this convo. Lets put it this way fellas, the old console are beta than the wii, PS3 & 360, dont you think lol.

  • I definitely agree, Mega Drive and PS1 had the best games libraries ever IMO.

  • Instead of comparing bits which became MEANINGLESS over 10 years ago, compare overall 3D graphics rendering performance.

(i.e. pixel fillrate, polygons per second)

*Dreamcast is roughly 20 times more powerful than Nintendo 64 and PS1.

*PS2/Gamecube/Xbox are more or less, 4-6 times more powerful than Dreamcast.

*Gamecube is roughly 50 to 100 times more powerful than N64.

*PS2 is 100 to 300 times more powerful than PS1.

  • no it wasnt my friend PS1 was full fledge 32bit and PS2 was 128bit, check through your findings agian if your still unsure check wiki.

  • Sony PlayStation 1: 32-bit

    Sega Saturn: 32-bit

    Nintendo 64: 64-bit

    Sony PlayStation 2: 128-bit

    Nintendo GameCube: 64-bit

    Microsoft X-Box: 32-bit

The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive technically is 32-bit because the M68000 is a 32-bit CPU that works in a 16-bit bus.

The XBox is technically 32-bit because the main CPU is Intel x86 32-bit, though the real power here is the graphics processor.

As you can see, the bit rating is largely meaningless though this wasn't evident until the PS2/GC/XB era.

  • no that was the nintendo 64 hence the name N64, PS1 was 32 and so was saturn, dreamcast was 128 bit and so fourth with PS2 gamecube and xbox.

  • The PS1 was 16/32 bit, it was mixed power. The PS2 was 256 bit.

  • PS2 was 128bit

  • NO, WRONG, PS2 was NOT 256-bit.

  • When it was advertised Sony said it was.

  • Yeah, but who would believe Sony's ads?

  • The Sony/Toshiba EmotionEngine core is, most assuredly, 128-bit.

    But, that doesn't mean anything.

The Microsoft X-Box is 32-bit because it uses a 32-bit Intel x86 CPU derived from the Pentium III. Does that make it less powerful a system than the PlayStation 2?

When it comes to overall capabilities of a system, numbers such as bus width, clock speed, and so are not as important as numbers like MIPS and FLOPS.

  • Then how come in their advertising compaign years ago they said it was a 256 bit console. Anyways i can't really be arsed to argue over the worlds shittest consoles.

  • I've never heard that before.

The only thing that comes close would be the fact that the memory bus is over 2 Gb wide, or 2560-bits. But that's bandwidth and only gives you an idea how fast the bus can transfer between RAM and the processor in I/O.

As for shittiest consoles, that depends on its games. The PS-2 has quite a few great games, as did the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft XBox.

"Shit," IMO, is an appropriate name for travesties like the Atari Jaguar.

  • Sony always tend to exaggerate in their advertising campaigns.

They claim PS3 is the 1st console to use 4D graphics. (an example of 4D graphics being when if it's a rainy environment the rain bounces off of your character and a little off the ground)

Well PS2 was capable of that, Metal Gear Solid 3 is an example if that.

Anyways forgive my rant there, but yeah Sony do tend to exaggerate on ad campaigns.

  • No, wrong.

    PS1 was fully 32-bit.

PS2 was 128-bit but as others have said, bits became meaningless in the last generation.

  • PS1? WTF? dreamcast was 128 bit, PS1 was 32 bit, u cant compare the 2, u can compare saturn and PS1.

  • I thought the PS1 was 64 bit. Just saying.

  • Well he can compare them if he wants, just he's comparing consoles of 2 different consoles generations, PS1 being 5th gen, Dreamcast being 6th gen, which is somewhat unorthodox.

  • i think dreamcast is better than ps1

  • you know now that i come to think about it, at the end, the sound, sounds like something off PSO or even related to it, i have a feeling if sega did use this it would be for introducing PSO or even especially design for PSO, maybe this is just me, but thats my point of view.

  • that is waaayyyy awsomer than the original red one

  • this is better

  • This is way better than the US version.

  • I always wondered if there was a Blue Swirl version to this startup. I like it. They so should have used this version of the startup for the retail Dreamcast.

  • The European Dreamcast had a blue swirl because of copyright problems (a German sfotware house already used an orange swirl as a logo).

  • It was "Tivola ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING" that already had the orange swirl as their company logo

  • @ chaoreturnsforgood76:lets destroy em! but I like the blue swirl too...

  • I do prefer the blue PAL intros, and this is a pretty cool version! SEGA should have used this for the retail Dreamcast start up.

  • I like the blue swirls; more Sega themed than orange, because blue is the Sega Logo colour, the colour of Sonic, you know. I live in the UK, which means... I get a blue boot swirl!! I like the final better, it sounds more dreamlike, sleepy, and and more associated with the name "Dreamcast."

  • Lol i live in the uk :) This is a great boot. i had the final version of the dreamcast (the bouncing ball one)

  • Are there Dreamcast devkits on the black market? Seeing as the Dreamcast died I'm assuming you don't need to be Sega licenced to use one...

  • wow i never seen that 1 before

  • Very nice. That's captured directly from the dev kit? Do you have some way of capturing VGA Input stuff?

  • WOW,This is going to my favorites DIRECTLY!!! :-)
