La vi por primera ves en las olimpiadas de Seul y su belleza me cautivo desde el primer instante y la considero como una de las mejores gimnastas del mundo.
Throughout her gymnastics career she was in a league of her own, I mean she actually points her toes in her back handsprings. She was robbed of a ten.
This is well executed and elegant, but there is no expression or interpretation - she is like a robot. Compare this to Silivas from this same competition- there is no comparison either in terms of interpretation or technical execution. It is a shame that the scores were so close.
Compulsory exercises are great to watch; such elegance is required. The commentator is also great. I wish the NBC commentators were as good as Frances.
The female commentator is Frances Crampton, she became Australia's first internationally accredited gymnastics judge. She is still actively involved in sports in Australia.
I can show this to non-gymnastics people and they will say "WOW why don't they do this anymore?" I truly wonder if the "tricksters" are stealing more hearts than the "artists", who were throwing tricks that were often just as difficult as today's?
This routine was glorious! I think Svetlana Boginskaya was better than Yelena Shushunova in compulsories. Her BB compulsory was impeccable.
People claim that Sveta was overscored and was not deserving of her medals. I actually think she was superb and was able to capitalize on Aurelia Dobre's injury and Olga Strazheva's fall to get on the AA podium. Her optional FX was the one routine that was overscored.
I don't know since I could not watch the 1991 Worlds that year but it seems they made up-they trained under Bela together for a while and appeared together on the cover of International Gymnast-I forget what year/issue.
Michael Buckley sent me here lmao

I know the soviets choreographed it and all but the way the romanians learned the second pass looks better, without stepping one leg out...

I agree! Daniella's version of this in actually my favourite!

I'm pretty sure the commentator isn't aware of the fact that there is a music.

The commentator is very informative. Even though she is pretty much non stop during the routine, I don't mind it. Much better than the NBC trio.

the tumbleing is way to easy

The compulsories were always so beautiful and balletic.
I wish she had used choreography more in this style in her optional routines.

Bogi should have been put up last I think. She was superior to Shushonova in this routine. Which Soviet girl followed Bogi before Shushu?

Laschenova?

I heard she and Kim Zmeskal didn't shake hands at the 1991 World Champs. Kim said, "I hate Svetlana!"

i miss compulsories :(. check her out in 92 and 96 as well on compulsory floor.
jpalmettoguy 4 years ago 12
Yea, she really capitalized on the flexibility moves, and her Korbut roll was excellent, as was her toepoint.

The way a compulsory floor exercise should be.
