  • One of my favorite tunes. I'll take a '77 Straw over any other year. It really evokes images out west on the road with Shannon and "Jack Straw". You can never go wrong with a classic '72 version either with the bouncy rhythmic solos. Oh yeah by the way if you have read the book, the lyrics of Jack Straw go just about hand in hand with Of Mice and Men.

The next night's opener of Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower is sonically sublime.

    Thanks and Peace!

  • Not only that: "there ain't no winner in this game, you keep us on the run!"

  • Got anything from lafayette college in PA around 78 or later? One of the greatest shows I ever saw. Love your posts man.

  • @thegunnydog - i haven't uploaded anything but if you do a google search for "Lafayette College 1979-05-07 live archive" you can download a pretty good quality audience recording of the show.

  • in case ya did'nt know, there is nowhere to hide that will keep you from the sun

  • I wish to lie where a mother's prayer

And a sister's tear will mingle there.

Where friends can come and weep o'er me.

O bury me not on the lone prairie."

  • I was only six years old in '77 but caught up w the boys in '88

  • like it :-)))))))))))

  • Lovely video montage to go with this awesome soundboard recording of a night for the band that shall live forever.

  • Best show ever! Almost got pushed through the plate glass when the hail started to fall before the doors opened. Came out to about 12 inches of snow!

  • Definitely one of my favorite Jack Straw's

  • @williams78128

Yea this and the night before this in Boston are really good... maybe the best but who's to say? :)

  • @bobshenix As you say, who's to say. Boston was fraught with technical problems although a patient deadhead could easily overlook these.

  • @terrapin52

Yea sometimes i actually like it if the timing's right and it isn't too pervasive... it can give a particular version character.

I love the Bertha from that 5/7/77 Boston show and there's a part with a loud, sharp feedback sound from the speakers and you can hear Jerry laughingly shout out Whooooooooooooooohhh and Donna laugh, and so on...

I know it is almost cliche by now but i really love May 77, more than any other single month probably. It is so popular for a reason IMO

  • we can share what we got of yours...

    that was awesome! thanks, man

  • @pipewatcher - thank you, for the thumbs up!

  • @chasefukuoka61 You really know your stuff.........This show has been one of my favorite shows for many many years. I had a bootleg which was the worst recording in the world back in the early 90's. Thank god for Archive!!!!!!............Keep it going brother!!!
