  • does anybody know what that musical score is, very similar to 'O Fortuna' but not

  • 4:21 Is that meant to be the OLD indiana!? WTF

  • 2:40 --> Jan Vlasák (known from movie HOSTEL by Eli Roth)

  • Sheeeeeit.... I accidentally the dislike button :(

I loved this show when I was younger.

  • The Star Wars live-action series, is going to be a lot like this series. So let's hope it's good like this one.

  • I simply love this series (for almost 18 years now....)! I think, everyone who loves history would love it., because it's one of the best views on history television has ever seen!

That goes for the original series. Later, they shot various TV films on the subject that are also good, but not as great as the original series.

The scenes of this video are from an episode which I found particularly educating about human history.

  • Just imagine how much money it would cost today to make a show of this scale. It's hard to believe these were made in the early 90s, too.

  • what did that motorbike do to him?

  • I'm at a fucking loss of words. Dealings in WWI and with Pancho Villa, all before his temple-raids. Can't believe he ain't dead!

  • young indy had the best haircut ever: "the swoop." what a pimp....truly great role model

  • The chess metaphor is pure genius !

  • Super

  • My great thanks for posting this....i used to love watching this show every week! It was an absolutely phenomenal show for those of us who enjoy getting to see a historical review of the early 20th Century! I particularly remember this episode and the episode on The Somme! Powerful stuff!

  • so the 'big guns' were the real obstacle? seriously...

  • dam, i remember when i was young, always used to watch these movies over and over again.

  • It makes sense if you watch the bit in the episode earlier.A german fighter plane strafes him.

By dumping the bike and his helmet it made him look like he was killed in a stray shell burst or something.Besides Joffre wouldnt be too concerned over one possible dead or missing courier,he'd be too busy killing Frenchmen with his attacks

  • Man, I love this show......

  • Great Music !

  • Great series, full of wisdom. I'd only object to young Indy's haircut. "Caporal, vous passerez chez le coiffeur! Revenez me rendre compte!"

Actually a French soldier of 1916 who'd have destroyed military equipment and not fulfilled his mission as messenger would've been in deeeeeeeeeep trouble.

  • @Fridomfry How was Command to know? He could have just reported the enemy as having shot his petrol tank for one, thus forcing him to slog on back to base without being able to complete his mission.

Or he could simply vanished and returned to his unit.

  • @ariandynas, yes, he could have taken a chance… Many soldiers did, thinking they were smarter. Some got through, others were spot and denounced by a guy who happened to watch. Many were just interrogated by military police ("tell us exactly what happened"… "Yesterday your story was a bit different…"), and couldn't stand a detailed questioning. Besides, messengers were chosen among very dedicated & responsible men, since it was a particularly risky & individual job.

  • @Fridomfry that's why he throw the bike into the creator so it look like it was a plan's bomb or way-word artillery shell that did it not him ;) ..... indy for the win

  • sweet

  • yeah cuz an order is never wrong, amirite?

  • The song is called "Requiem" by Joel McNeely

  • What is the song they are playing

  • Still haven't figured out why he had to blow up his bike aswell. He almost killed himself...

  • so the attack would be delayed another day so the soldiers could live a little longer(notice he put the message in the gas tank)

  • but why not burn the paper and keep the bike lol?

  • wouldn't that have looked suspicious? Besides, in the next episode he rejoined his old unit.

  • I guess... At least keep the bike for a while and destroy it later? ;)

  • fairly good story..but why is it aired on the HISTORY channel!???????

  • Because it's a nice inklink into World War I, not a true story, but most films these days are not. lol

  • This is an EXCELLENT fable. Comparing nowadays hot-shot speculators who play with companies, with WW1 abstract strategists who played with infantry units, is very sound and many lessons should be learned from this.

Regarding historical facts, in this case Pétain was wrong. Nivelle and Mangin prepared their attack "in every detail". Their victory was a severe blow to the Germans, as Douaumont was a strategic position, not only a symbol.

  • Unfortunately for humanity and the French army, Nivelle remained on even after Verdun, and ordered another senseless series of attacks against well defended german positions, most notably at the chemin des dames. These attavks and the mutiny in the french army that came after were the direct cause of Passchendaele. woe to the western world for starting the two most catastrophic man made events in world history! (W.W. 1 and W.W. 2)

  • Try going to retirement homes... I talk to people in their 80s they got some crazy WWII stories and stories of the great depression.

  • Indy as a Child wasn't Bad but also wasn't as Good as the young one. I was always waiting to see the new classic beauty type Hottie he was going to hook up with that week. I mean Katherine Zeta Jones was in this series.

  • I have the DVD box set for the War Years, but the endings with Old Indy were all cut. Poo.

  • =/ Was actually going to buy that box to the summer... BOOOOO!

  • I am glad i rented it first. Old Indy was half the fun

  • Young Indiana Jones had the Best Hair cut ever man.

  • I love this episode. Definitely one of the best.

  • it's weird in the end that you have a legend with so much history and storys to tell and everyone else is oblivious to that fact

  • I'd forgotten how good these were! Thanks for posting them!

You don't by any chance have the Somme episode, do you? I'd kill for the bit with Graves and Sassoon.

  • loved this episode back then. especially the music is great.

  • I got this episode on VHS, it always gives me goosebumps at the end...

    Good post!

  • This Tv show was really cool, ok. sayonara my friends, by the way greetings from Victoria Tamaulipas Mexico.

  • This Tv show was cool, ok. sayonara my friends.

  • Such a good episode. I was able to download it and a few others a while back. I can't wait to get the DVDs when they come out.

  • One of the best sequences of the entire series. Good post.

  • The best moment of the series. Remember, in the early 90s, network television pretty much only consisted of cop and lawyer shows. And then there was THIS. It was so different.

  • I remember I was a young kid in Malaysia when this show aired. We had 1 English tv station and this show was on every week, I couldn't wait to see it. I'm definitely getting all the DVDs.

  • any1 have the clip where hes serving in the world war and is made a corporal?

  • Awesome!
