The Goodies their second single was relased on 6th MARCH 1975 The Funky Gibbon, following after Father Christmas Do Not Touch Me were first relased on 28th NOVEMBER 1974.
@sambda I don't think Graeme is embarassed at all, He is doing his part as always. They had all been comedians for many years, too many to be embarassed by making a satiric dance.
@Ragnemalm He did say in the book I have that he was a bit embarrassed, but not by the song itself, but by being a popstar & performing on TOTP & that he felt guilty for being a popstar over younger people trying to make it in the industry. He was incredibly self-conscious.
@MyCouplesRockHard Ah, OK, that's another kind of embarassment. Graeme is a smart guy, of course they took a place in the list with a parody, and it does speak in his favor if he feld bad about the hard-working musicians that landed outside the list because of them.
Thanks to Youtube, we get to see all the stuff that the US missed out on in the 70s (before my time unfortunately). It's amazing how many groups hit it big in the UK and yet are all but unknown in the US.
Wonderful! And with Tony Blackburn! RobinCarmody's claim about Scatty Safari is most likely true. Tony was often mocked by The Goodies, but there he appeared in person. His comment is very logical if you consider how that scene ended. Highly recommended!
@Ragnemalm Yeah. Tony took it in his stride & even appeared in Goodies Rule OK as himself, being rejected by The Goodies when they were recruiting entertainers to run the country. I think he saw the funny side of it. Heck even the British Royal family were fans & they were mocked all the time, especially in Royal Command! It was probably considered an honour to be mocked by them for most people at the time.
Incidentally, what Blackburn's referring to at the start is the great 'Scatty Safari' episode of The Goodies - also known as 'The Existence of Rolf Harris' - where he appears as a star exhibited in a safari park, running for freedom to the theme from The Adventures of Black Beauty.
Bill Oddie has quite varied tastes, incidentally, and came up with some brilliant pastiches in the 'I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again' days.
This is Racist, going to the zoo means going to Africa, meeting a gibbon means meeting a black man.

@MyCouplesRockHard Ah, so Tony appears in person in GROK too? He certainly did get the point. Pity that they never invited Rolf Harris to the show.

Well, you had to be there. It's still better than quite a few other songs on this show, though.
