I don't think resources are as low as they are telling us. I keep hearing different people saying that there is plenty of oil in The United States and Russia. And they have known about other was of getting energy, for a very long time. Just look at the NASA tether video. They got so much energy from space, it broke the tether and lit up the cable till it could be seen for miles.
