As a former owner of two Chows, they are NOT aggressive as people make them out to be. Like any dog, it depends on the owner and how well you socialize them to others. I have NEVER had any of my dogs "turn on me" or randomly attack people like the myths people keep pushing about Chows. They tend to be more family-centric, but if you simply get them used to being around other people as a puppy you will have NO problems and they will do just fine. Don't believe the negative press

@TheBubi97 my Chow was moody, not aggressive, and i think that is what most ppl mean by chows being aggressive.. they are a different type of dog, there are only a couple other breeds that i have noticed have the same stand-off-ish behaviour. my chow would bite, in fact bit me many times, but i always understood her reasons, and therefore i knew when and when not to let ppl around her, and knew what she liked and didn't like. Chows are definetly more wild then a regular dog. but i loved that.

Seeing this makes me miss my chow even more. When i was 13 the dog next door attacked me and my chow (spunky) defending me, tore the other dog apart, the next day my neighbor shot him. :( Chows are the best

My chow saved my life when i was 7 years old too. My drunken neighbor tried to shoot me and my chow (bearski) attacked him and held him down til my parents could make it outside. a few years later we had to give him to the poiund becuase we were forced to move and we couldnt take a dog his size with us

yikes! I hate when people say that. Just as with any dog, you should do your homework and get to know the breed. Chow Chows are mistaken for aggressive, when really alot of times just dont like people. They tend to think they are better then everyone and everything! i love it !

@minkdevil ..well..chow's are really hard to train. they usually like to please theirselves first than their owners. they not really suitable for being around with children. chow's are cute..well..very cute and fluffy! but if it's your first time to own a pet dog..you might want to reconsider getting a shih tzu since they're really loyal and really easy to train.
