i think that chrome os should be able to save google docs as .pdf, or .doc b'cause i often have to upload homework to it's learning, and without that kind of saving, i cant do that. or not local saving if i could save to my extern harddrive that would be nice;)

Hey @googlechrome, you should check out my video! I made it a couple of weeks ago, but I'd love to receive a notebook and do some testing! I wish I could just have a notebook with a browser that is nice and compact and good on battery life! My MacBook is nice, but when I'm able to use the browser for almost all of my work, it seems unnecessary to have all of this other software!

Smart phone, tablet pc & cloud computer of today are more powerful than a Windows PC of a decade ago. Considering this, which OS is wining the computing race? This argument is rather pointless.

Yes, you have significantly less to worry about in the way of viruses, but you also are missing out on a large portion of things that you usually use your computer for (and ease of use, a bit).

If your intent is just to make documents and check your email, then yes, get a Chrome book. My experience with Linux distributions is that there is very little support for a lot of peripherals, like printers and such.

So think of that before you make your choice.

@vargulf19 Last time I used Linux was when I tried to set up a distro on a little desktop recently. I didn't think it was worth installing Windows on it since it would probably be used for just email.

I did find printer drives which worked with few problems like sometimes printing out blank pages. I asked my friend who knows a lot more than I do about Linux, and he told me there was not a lot of support for many printers.

I never found a driver for the scanner after hours (2) of searching.

@zekigpr My all-in-one printer/scanner was an Epson Stylus NX300. It took me over 2 hours to NOT find a solution while consulting with a person who has used Linux-based operating systems for the majority of his computer-using life, which includes his time majoring in computer science.

The point is, it's probably going to be rather difficult to support the huge amount of hardware out there, which many average users use. The manufacturers probably aren't going to care to support it, in general.

@TheIncognitusMe Really, if you have absolutely no use for the stuff a desktop gives you, like Microsoft Excel, etc, and thing you can install, like computer games, this is fine. However, since I find those things useful, I wouldn't get this "Chrome Notebook", unless the Internet (or Google, with their "accounts") came out with better programs (ie, Google Spreadsheets could be improved) that I could use as well as Microsoft's stuff that comes on a desktop. (Sorry if what I said makes no sense)

I've experienced a similar problem! Nearly every time I visit family in East Coast, I was pestered about their laptops going into virus or it has slowed down. I was like what, all you guys ever did was browse on the Internet, watch videos and print papers!! Why I need a chrome computer.

my apple laptop battery SUX

my apple crashes once in a while amnd when it does it is HORRIDLY BAD CRASHES. i dont want a hard drive to have head crashes on. i do most everything online

so a chrome computer would be a great machine for me

Chrome OS wont run any Windows-applications; this so called "legacy" is actually necessary to do day-to-days work; there is just no way one could really "switch" to Chrome OS; like no-one switches to the iPad either; a linux-mac-windows switch is possible though since those are complete OSes

How would I use a Google OS Notebook? I wouldn't, I'd smash it up. these things are about as useful as those failed Bush internet TV boxes.

They will be fine for people who dont know jack about pc's but then because they know jack youll leave them wondering why their programs that worked on another pc wont work on this.
