Another thing. The 1987 movie was set in 1905. Bonanza's timeline started in 1858 and ended in 1872.(The year was always 1 behind the present year. The show ended in 1973) So this movie should have been set in 1886. But for some reason the producers decided to move it up 19 years. Bonanza the return in 1993 ALSO started in 1905.(the continuity of the next generation was ignored) It should have used 1892 as a date.(adding 20 years after the original show ended)I dont know why they decided on 1905
@Dar70 because - clearly - they weren't writing for their audience. I would think as popular as this show was they'd have had the brains to do that much.
@paramedicEmergency51 He played Charlie Poke, the foreman of the Ponderosa. He had supposedly been around for years but he was never a part of the original show.
@BonanzaDude553 LOL! yeah have you seen Landon's daughter? Leslie Landon, she looks like the brother. Spawns of Gary Busey LOL! shame they never wanted to include Dirk Blocker full time in any of these TV movies...he is the spitting image of Dan Blocker that's for sure.
@ShakinJonny Yea neither did his daughter Leslie Landon who played Etta Plumm, she played the teacher on Little House on the Prairie in the last few seasons. They both look like the lovechildren of Gary Busey LOL!
the only thing Jr. shared with sr is the hair. Michael landon was blonde up untill his teen years, but other then that you right he does look like Busy son.
Gosh, I totally agree BD553. I had looked forward to it for a long time and I was so disappointed that David Canary could not (or would not) reprise his role. I knew I would cry during the eppy, and I did for a while, but as it unfolded, I got so mad at what they had done, I even quit crying. I also was a fan of Robert Fuller, but even that didn't work for me.
I agree. The viewers are not idiots and they should of stayed true to original storylines. If they had, I believe it could of had a life. Same with the prequel that came on a few years ago. I could not even get through the pilot episode. Stay true to the original story or just don't do it at all.
You are quite right BonanzaDude553, I have watched Bonanza right from the start in 1960 in England and anyone else who has must know the whole story line and the life of the Characters, so The Next Generation and certainly the Prequel to us did NOT stay true to the REAL Bonanza and like you say, I also couldn't get through the Pilot episode without switching off in utter disbelief and disgust.

This was a intended as a pilot for a sequel series, but it sort of lost steam when Green died. It was terrible all by itself anyway.

Kinda wierd seeing a car driving onto the ponderosa and in Virginia city considering fans grew up with a horse and stage coach show.

@BadCamera32 yeah i didn't like the car thing at all. my first thought was i hope micheal landons son isn't driving it . . .

All the years between when the show took place and when this movie takes place Virginia City still looks like a one horse town. Hmm wonder why?

There was a reason this show didn't survive -- they didn't do their historical research on the original and true fans wouldn't go along with it.
