Road & Track got their 6 speed manual SX to 60 in 6.9 sec, and the quarter in 15.2 or so seconds at 89-90 MPH. These "testers" are by far the slowest times I've seen for the Fortes, especially manual ones. Most testers and owners manage in the low 7s for 0-60.

@NeverMeanToTheGreen how? I've never been able to get my Forte5 SX from 0-60 in under 8 seconds. Tried it with the traction off and on. Used regular old Drive and Sportmatic mode. It can never breech 8 seconds 0-60.

Pretty slow for having 173hp. I don't understand...even the base forte has 158hp or something, and every test I've come across, it's not any faster than its competitors.
@revaholic the weight of a kia forte is 2730. the scion tc does 0-60 in 8.3 with 180 hp but it weighs 3100 so about 370 pounds difference yet same speed. im sure the 7hp dosnt make much of a difference
I own this car, all black leather interior, it's red, has red stitching moon roof, and it looks damn good. Im not a car enthusiast and I don't care that it takes 3 seconds longer to reach sixty that's not my problem. I commute a lot and this car is as reliable as it is fun! Good job kia. Btw on cruise control it gets 35 mpg highway, just so you know.

When you compare acceleration times especially, it would be best to compare them with similar cars with an AUTOMATIC transmission in this case, rather than a manual.

This car looks like the next popular import tuner. Good price, great handling and breaking, good looks. Spend a little money on giving it 15-20 more horsepower and you've got a really quick compact that will spank everything else for the same money.
I doubt it. It lacks bang for the buck. Buying a new forte could land you even a used 04-05 subaru STi with way more power. Plus import tuners are pretty conscious with the brands. I'd buy an 02 camaro over this forte any day, and still is cheaper and more bang. It does look like compared to all the other Kias though I'll give you that.

It's about the same price as a Civic EX-L and cheaper than a Civic Si. It's faster than the EX-L and handles better. The engine in this car is the same engine as the Dodge SRT4 cars without the turbo. In a year or so you'll probably see a turbo version to spank the Si and give the MazdaSpeed3 (King of the FWD compacts) a run for it's money.

i think the driver in this test cant shift, and if u noticed: edmunds and motorweek both use this same video. i dont think they test it themselves.

I sell these cars and the SX Koup can easily hit 60 MPH before 8 seconds. with a good driver i would say 7.7 seconds comes easy

i won't trust anything IL says..very very biased source and unreliable as far as i'm concerned for the most part.
but, i wouldn't doubt that the manny is rubbish. it's a cheap car, probably has a cheap gear box.

these people are crazy.. since when is 8 seconds slow??? 20 years ago, that was considered quick. it still is quick as far as i'm concerned. my '09 fusion runs 7.93, and it's quick enough.
people need to lighten up a bit. it's a 4 cyl. with 180 hp.. what do you expect?

Thanks for that. :) Also, keep in mind (this is to everybody else) that this Forte test car had an automatic transmission. If that's with an automatic tranny, then this car's pretty sprightly with a stick shift.
