One of the best musical scores on the SNES. Shame the game was crap. I got it the first day it came out and my mate pissed himself laughing after we'd played it for a couple of hours.
Why so many haters? seriously 5 ppl can play HELL YEA sounds like a good sat night to me mixed in some pizza and bam best friends over UGH hell of a night mostly laughing at the game and playing it till we had enough good times with it.
AVGN's just gotta review this game! and yes, he has it! This game has: repetitive scenery, slightly awkward controls, reappearing bats and snakes (ugh), stupid scavenger hunts, and douchebag supporting characters that force you to do meaningless tasks for them in order to advance the story. WHY HASN'T HE REVIEWED THIS YET???
For its time this was perhaps the most strongly composed music score for a vedeo game until the advent of Final Fantasy 6. These two games probably held the pinnacle of RPG music for the SNES. Chrono Trigger had great soundtrack, but it was expected of it's time and prestige. This game, out of no where, with little expectations produced a series of incredibly moody music. If you've played through the game it's amazing.
I played through most of this game and the soundtrack was always enjoyabke from start to finish :) I just wish I could say the same about the gameplay :(
well at leat the snes version left more of the story in than the film.
I got a PS2 Lord of the Rings that came out just before the films and so isnt one of the film licence deals and its well hard its stupidly hard in parts!!
The only thing that kept me from finishing this game was the poor gameplay. If it was more like a traditional RPG, then some of the problems would have been eliminated. I loved the music, though!
Oh my...I once played this on an old Nintendo player, years ago. It was kind of fun, kind of hard, and kind of annoying. I wouldn't mind trying it again, but I wish it went beyond killing the balrog.
it seems that is heavily based of Ralph Bakshi's LOTR.
why people bash that film so much?

@aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Only thing that was out by that time. The "real movies" didn't appear at the cinema until 2001.

@bjorkman88 true. it's a shame Bakshi wasnt allowed to finish it.

actually its based on the book. This game released a long time ago (1995-96) fot the Snes.
Chilavert2010 4 years ago
Well, the character's pictures were taken from Ralph Bakshi's animated version. So, let's say is a game based in that movie.
