Great to hear this song again. I used to watch you play at Anderson Fair. Funny thing, but hearing it after thirty years it dawned on me that this song sounds a little like "Plush" by the Stone Temple Pilots, released some fifteen years later. Probably a coincidence, but still...
I can't stop watching this. I must've come back to it a dozen times in the past two days.
I was a child in Austin in 70's and have never forgotten the 'vibe' that that town had; it was palpable even for a kid. This video is like walking through a door to 35 years ago. Everything about it is perfect. Perfectly crafted lyrics over a haunting tune. Simply marvelous.
Well, this one will do for sure. I appreciate the gifts that you share. Good luck. I hope to catch the one man show somewhere out there in the wide world.
Vince you are the coolest. I came across your music from being a fan of Lyle Lovett. To see you comment back to your listeners makes you even cooler. I was so happy to see you're a Texas guy lol. If you're ever bored to tears click on me maybe I'd be lucky enough get a few pointers from you :D
I think this sounds better here with the acoustic guitar. Lyle added a lot of other instrumentation, but sometimes all a song needs is a guitar and a voice. I like the faster tempo here too. Always good to hear the writer's version of a song -- you gain more insight into its true meaning.
Love this. Have just discovered Bell myself. Saw Lovett in Fort Worth and he opened with this tune. It was a lovely moment. Am hoping Vince gets to Dallas. I want to see "One Man's Music."
Thanks csx4, glad you enjoyed. It is on my first CD, Phoenix, but I just re-recorded it for the new CD, One Man's Music that came out at the same time as my autobiography. Enjoy.
Thank You! for posting this video. This is one of my very favorite songs; and to see it performed by Vince Bell in this video from 1977 absolutely rocks the boat!!!
until a few days ago i'd never heard of this guy - and stumbled upon this while checking into something - i don't listen to much to singer-songwriters, if that's what you want to call him, but a great song is a great song, especially if you serve it up just right - this is amazing - rarely have i heard a song where the lyrics so convincingly seem to come from someone's experience - like they were written on a napkin in a bar, with the fan turning...
Vince, it is a joy to hear this song again. I am transported back to those "fair summer evenings" at Anderson Fair. See you Friday night. Can't wait! God bless.
as far as I can tell the tears come around the sixth or seventh time
whoever is reading this, just push play (again) and if you must read something, try Vince's new book. I just finished it and it is inspiring...an amazing tale of two guitars. It is a much better read than this rambling comment!
I first heard this on Bruce Bryant's Little Old Show..., one of my all time favorites.

Vince, I'm reading your biography and it is excellent. Do you have anymore archive footage from the Houston and Austin days between '77 and '82?

This is a terrific song. Having figured out most of the guitar part, does anybody know how to finger the Em chord in the fifth position ?

Bet if You get in touch with Vince He will help You figure it out. He is a very Nice Person and easily approachable.
