Using colour balance, it just won't turn red!!!! It only turns green, yellow or blue, aaaarrrrggggg!!!!

I had to use colorify for the top layer.

@annawysteria2000 yep I use gimp two and the tutorial worked for me... there are minor differences such as select path you right click on your last point and then go "select" then "from path". but I found everything fairly quickly and I've only been using gimp for a little while so I'm sure you could figure out the small minor differences, mainly just stuff being under different menus and what not otherwise same basic process

This is a great tutorial. I followed it and easily made a lightsaber effect just as you did. I have a question for you if you would be kind enough to answer it. I enjoyed the results so much that I tried it on another picture. Everything works until I get to the coloring portion. I can no longer change the color!! No matter how I change the sliders, the saber stays white. I can change the color of the background layer but nothing else..what have I done?

THERE IS A MUCH EASIER WAY! Make 2 new layers. All you do is use free select or path select, whichever you want. Then you paint bucket white in the newest layer. Then go to the second layer, hit select, grow. Then select, feather. Make sure feather is twice as much as the grow. But the grow can be any size. Play around with it. Then select whatever color you want and fill it in. Then Save! You're done! I am also developing a script for this.

GRADIENT tools men ..go to the ''neon'' option ..there are three colours ..neon cyan / neon yellow and neon green .

how to make a video with lightsabers:

Turn every frame in the movie into separate pictures (can be done in windows movie maker, but very time consuming) Then adding the effect to every frame (extremely time consuming) Then piece each picture back together. (Yeah, that's time consuming too) So after a week or so, you might be able to get a 30 second long clip of lightsaber fighting.

... or you could just google LSmaker. Lol.

there is a much easier way for this you make a new layer make a path at the length you want then click storkes path and make the color you want and the size of you saber to be the click ok and then go the fitlers bur Gaussian blur and make it the bur effect you want and boom your done
