They are igniters for Black Powder firearms. This design was my first. I have uploaded other illustrations of designs that seek to improve on the control of the dynamic forces generated. And to improve on the "sensitivity" on wet newsprint, Cornish Game Hens, etc.
The Avatar, 15Palamita, has a video of his version using what appears to be a Shot Shell Primer for the Explosive Charge. It's an Exploding Tip Blow Dart. You might like it.
