Just beat the last castle in world 8 and after you do that, you will be in world 9, but in order to get the one of the places (e.g. 9-2) you have to get all of the star coins in world 2

Generally mario speedruns (since the original Super Mario) are done as small Mario without powerups).

This is a non-powerup speedrun; a powerup speedrun is just a different category.

Which parts do you mean in particular?

I know there are a couple parts where I can shave some tenths of a second.

The most obvious part of the video where it looks like I messed up is at 0:47. But I don't think I messed up there at all. I've tried running and jumping on top of the orange blocks, but when you get to the grass ledge, you have no quick way of getting up. I don't think that falling in the water lost me any time.

There is a chance, however, that there is a faster way.

I mean at like 0:28, 0:32, and 0:47 as you say. I was just wondering if it was the fastest, which it seems it is as you say, I suppose these levels arn't designed to be spedrun :)

Yea, good eye, 0:28 - 0:32 is kind of slow.

Well, at 0:32, you are forced to land in the water no matter what, unless you wait for the flying koopa to come low enough so you can jump on him.

And for 0:28, I had to wait for the piranha plant to go back into the pipe, otherwise - to make a long story short - I would be in the water for twice as long.

BUT, there is one way to avoid having to wait for the piranha plant and still being able to get out of the water in 1 jump:

At 0:25, when jumping off that vine, IF you can jump on that flying koopa (which gives you a double jump), and then if you leap off the second vine just in time (the triple jump), you can soar over the pipe at 0:28, land on the walking koopa, and bounce far, over the piranha plant and over most of the water.
