You already have a knife in the beginning. At the end of the first Mission, you get ambushed by a gastrap, so they take all of your weapons and your stuff away. In the end of the second Mission and in the beginning on this Mission (Cutscene) you get all of your weapons and your stuff back.
It's unrealistic how many armed men you can kill with your knife, AFTER they've noticed you.
And they appear to be a bit deaf, too.
