They were just plain fun. And decent. Those groups who all sound alike today--especially the women--singing about sex all the boring time call themselves "sophisticated" when what it really is is just mindless and primitive. Monkees forever!
Columbia Studios got a lot of mileage out of that park and that fountain. The pool is the same one that Larry and Louise Tate (on Bewitched) visit when they go on their second honeymoon to the country club. The buildings in the background are the same ones we see up the street from the Partridge Family house.
Love this song! I always flash back to being a little kid and watching the Monkees on Saturday morning TV. I was obsessed with the Universal Monsters so seeing the guys in their monster masks really cemented my admiration for the wacky foursome. Tommorrow's really gonna be another day, indeed!
Lets be realistic. Once the Monkees got Kirshner canned and the Brill songwriters, their work was not a fraction as good as with the other writers. They were good musicians, but the songwriting and Wrecking Crew really helped the Monkees.
@SeattleLA Mike Nesmith's songs were better than most of the top 40 ripoff/copycat material the Monkees were given. Left to their own devices they would have put out singles like Mary Mary and Different Drum. I'd wildly prefer that band.
@DocWyoming True,In fact that band became a reality when The Monkees recorded Headquarters which turned them into the real thing,Mike wrote some great tunes for the album as well as Peter and Mickey,Even Davys percussion work is awesome to hear on the record,From that point on there style was very much there own,I dare say they are one of the pioneers of country rock in the late 60s,For the first time ever the guys earned the right to play there own instruments and they rocked at it!
Monkees cancel remaining 2011 45th anniv. tour, citing "irreconcilble differences...We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support of The Monkees"
@steve7138 What do you mean 'irreconcilable differences'? Have you got any further information? Arguements within the group? What a pity. They said this was the final tour, and it looks like it just may well be. What a sad note to end on though.... after all these years. so sad.
