I have just one serious question for the LDS, how is it that God only gives modern day scripture/revelation to 12 guys at the head of the Mormon church? Wouldn't God inspire a lost soul in China or a peasant in Africa, or an Eskimo? The Expositor disclosed SmYth's polygamy, all while he'd been condemning it. That's what landed him in jail. It's a website run by active LDS, and everything is backed up by strong documentation. Active members brace yourselves! They won't teach you this in sacrament meeting. I recommend you read it all, especially the part entitled "Lying for the Lord."
Just wondering where you come up with the whole "lying to husbands" thing You're the only person I've seen say that. i don't know why it bothers you so much that he was married to married women. It wasn't a sexual marriage, just a temple sealing. He never committed adultery and if you understood what Mormon polygamy was then you would be able to see why such a thing might be okay. How many of them was the Church responsible for? How many of those wives were added by other people? I looked are you too scared to? Here is another piece of info for you. You do not have to be Mormon to log onto Family search. Members are not perfect we are normal people and people make mistakes. How many of those marriages were mistakes?
Mistakes that were added by overzealous members or enemies to the church? How many of the supposed marriages to other people wives were mistakes or for that matter carefully planned attacks by our enemies? There are tons of mistakes in all records. Did Joseph Smith make mistakes? Absolutely! Our own scripture has accounts of God rebuking The Prophet for his mistakes. But peoples mistakes are not going to make me forget what God has told me and that is that the Church is true.
There are many people even pastors of churches that will do nothing but preach against "the Mormons." There are people who make their living by selling anti-Mormon material. Now if someone is going to be making a living off of preaching hate then do you think that they are going to want to run out of new material? No they are not and so many of those people will go and make up new things to preach about the Mormons and perhaps even add false info to church websites like family search.

What's the point of this video? Polygamy is no secret. Everybody knows that it was practiced by Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and many others. So what's the use of this "exposure-style rhetoric"?
A good topic to study is also the "age of consent" today in many parts of the world and in the 19th century in the USA. History in general is not easy to understand when we apply our 21st century standards.
There are some things in Joseph Smith's life which I can't explain, but the same applies to the prophets in the Bible. Of course, polyandry is not taught in the Church, but the information is there, the archives are open.
The central question is: Does a prophet have to be perfect (in your eyes or mine)? If this were the case, nobody would qualify as a prophet. And still, the teachings of Joseph Smith make MUCH more sense to me than any other Christian or other religious doctrine.

Standards of spiritual, psychological, and philosophical truth were in place long before this church. This church disseminates information that only partially can be understood to be true, creating a psychologically unhealthy relationship to one's own spirituality. The journey most of you anti-Mormons take leads towards an extreme perception. You discover something bad in our history and from then on search for all the bad things that happen or alledgedly happen. Your attitude becomes more and more negative and determines your perception. And after a while you are unable to see all the good things in the Church.

Polygamy, on the other hand, is an interesting and well-known part of our history. Mormons love and know their history (they do a lot of genealogy). Some are pretty proud that their great-grandfather had two or three wives.

It wasn't a sexual marriage, just a temple sealing. He never committed adultery and if you understood what Mormon polygamy was then you would be able to see why such a thing might be okay. Before 1990 the endowment contained a passage where the members were told not to reveal the tokens enven when they were threatened with death by someone OUTSIDE the Church. There are some things in Joseph Smith's life which I can't explain, but the same applies to the prophets in the Bible. Of course, polyandry is not taught in the Church, but the information is there, the archives are open.
The central question is: Does a prophet have to be perfect (in your eyes or mine)? If this were the case, nobody would qualify as a prophet. And still, the teachings of Joseph Smith make MUCH more sense to me than any other Christian or other religious doctrine.

Standards of spiritual, psychological, and philosophical truth were in place long before this church. This church disseminates information that only partially can be understood to be true, creating a psychologically unhealthy relationship to one's own spirituality. I think everyone ought to judge, as best they can. Don't cop out on your own instinctual wisdom.

Polygamy, on the other hand, is an interesting and well-known part of our history. Mormons love and know their history (they do a lot of genealogy). Some are pretty proud that their great-grandfather had two or three wives.

Hi Skinnykin1: There is much evidence that Joseph Smith did in fact have sex with most of, if not all of his wives: The majority of that evidence comes from the Journals of the Married women and the Temple Lot trial, where under oath, many women said they had "Carnal Intercourse" with joseph.

It's a Sad Tragedy when you judge, especially when you are obviously closed minded and blinded by the restrictive thought process imposed by a cult like organization. Anyone who dares to question his own beliefs is "off the deep end". The TRUTH is the TRUTH regardless of feelings. As Albert Einstein said, look for what IS, not what you think should be.
As I sat alone in a room with one of the 12 Apostles and heard him make excuse after excuse, I came to a sad realization for sure. It's a scam.

Mormon Polygamy is bestowed (forced) onto the male. He might agree but you can't disagree. For long. This marriage to the woman can be a forced passive polyandry: She may be already married and it is passive as she has little or no choice. It is also an illegal document in that it nullifies all non Mormon marriages and contracts. And a lot more. I have much to say about this on my page.

I cannot affor to wait for the next life to find answers I need to live THIS life. We must all make judgments in the here and now on how to live our lives and what is right or wrong, true or false. I feel very satisfied and at ease with my conclusion after carefullyu weighinfg all the evidence that Joe Smith was a mountebank. I just feel sad for the good and naive people who are still under his spell. I have no doubt God will welcome them since it is their intentions and pious life that counts.

Personally, this was a hard thing to accept. Why would God command it, have Joseph lie about it publicly including to his wife Emma and have him marry women who were already married for only about 50 years considering the lives that been destroyed from it and the number of people who refuse to even consider learning about the church far exceed the number of "righteous seed" polygamy was supposed to create. I can't believe God is this disorganized.

According to US census data, (that started being collected in 1890)- the median (average) age of women 1st marriages was 21-22 in 1890, It has steadily risen to 25-26 today. in 1840 it was NOT 13-14. We can extrapolate that it was probably 19-20.. and certainly 14 year olds getting married to 34 year olds was VERY rare, and even more so that the 34 year old male already had wives __was unheard of in modern US society. A complete fraud!

I have to comment that none of the LDS here even cares about the fact of alot of the Women (girls) were 17 or younger. That is sick right there.
