  • Nityanrtra, scaffolding also because the second temple which Herod the great started building was not completed until after JCs death hence quite likely there was also a load of building activity going on at the time

  • caiphas= we must protect the sacred popcorn

  • the one at is just afraid the jesus people will eat the popcorn out of his jffy-pop hat.

  • @nityanrtya rofl

  • "On the steak of our nation this Jesus must dine"

  • Contrast the difference between the values of a powerful hedonistic power structure on earth and the values of the holy Creator of our Universe! I'll give you one guess Who will win the ultimate battle between good and evil at the end of time! Come see our Palm Sunday service - the main feature now on our channel

  • I'm honestly not very religious, but this is by far my favourite musical.

  • @walshy213

Considering the number of non religious people who share your feelings I'm starting to suspect that there is something out of the ordinary about this musical.

  • I want an hat like one of the Priest's.

  • whats up with the scafolds they are always on there

  • @SouthCoastNetworkz The scaffolding is a symbol- it represents how the pharicees and high priest are of a higher social standing than the rest of Jerusalem.

  • you can see the parallelism of this scene. buzzards flying in the sky then cut to the pharasees circling like buzzards around Jesus.

  • 7 persons are priests or romans.

  • What kind of priests are you?

  • Since I was a baby our family has watched this movie every year right before Easter. I have very fond memories watching this. My dad, who passed away when I was 11, loved this, and it always reminds me of him. My favourite movie of all time.

  • @TheBeatles193 same here, we always watched it on easter eve, thanks to my lovely dad.

  • Caiaphas' Voice is so damn deep... I bet his testicles are the same size as his hat ^^

  • @TheParappa

Oh man, that was low, real low.

  • Halloween Costume right there!

  • The birth of The illumanati

  • Caiaphas and the other priest are plotting the rise of the one-world government of the AntiChrist is beginning to take its shape as early as now. Its form is hidden in the emerging New World Order.

  • 1:05 I didn't know that guy sing that high!

  • @insaneintherainCE listen to Micro Cuts by Muse - Matt (the singer) sings amazing high there :) or Under Pressure (the Queen and David Bowie of course) and listen to Freddie Mercury's vocal slide on the word "why" :) the music I listen to makes me used to men singing high :D

  • The Gospel according to Tim (Rice).

  • "DOH!!! how do we deal with the carpenter King?"

    Annas is fantastic.

  • No need to spell it out. Movies fine.

  • @Spiritakis

    Poor taste.

  • @Spiritakis What the hell are you talkinh about? These priests are freaking awesome!

    Jesus' face at 6:22 'WTF?'

  • @NKcell89 his face at 6:22 is because theyve been sing "JC wont you smile at me/youre alright by me/wont you fight for me" but in the last verse the sing "wont you DIE for me" and hes like woah guys wth you mean by die?

  • I've never really understood the banging on the railing thing. O.o Could somebody explain it?

I find it rather funny how many people seem to think that Caiaphas is hot Xd I've never thought of him that way but... gotta admit he is. Kind of.

  • @LadyQGinny Percussion? Emphasis of "dangerous"?

  • @LadyQGinny They needed more cowbell.

  • Oh God, your son is so cooooollllll!!!!!!

  • Oh God, your son is so cooooollllllll!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bob bingham

  • 3:40 Caiaphas: WTF you doing with your hands?

  • @Gandalf54231 Caiaphas isn't doing anything and Annas is banging on the railing

  • @Gandalf54231 he obviously has ADHD! why else would he randomly break out in song?

  • Love this scene. It shows the distinction between Church and Faith.

  • I agree with you Monko.. Was this filimed in Jeruselum?

  • @zackfan Absolutely. Shot entirely on location in Israel. Ironic that it was Produced and Directed by one Norman Jewison

  • six people don't have bubbles on their heads

  • How do those hats stay ON?!?!?! Not only that, but they have awesome black capes and the shirtlessness is just.......*drools*.....anyway, what was I talking about?

  • Bob Bingham (Caiaphas) look more like a 1st century Palestinian Jew than Ted Neeley (Jesus). In fact, he looks more like Jesus than Neeley does (based on the Shroud of Turin and the fact that he has brown eyes and a darker complexion). Too bad Bingham did not do anything else as he was a great actor in this film.

  • the coolest Jesus ever!

  • This movie came out in the early 60s when Vietnam was going on. Some critics claimed it was anti-Semetic. Our local paper said it more accurately. It was those with political power who were attacked. This song captures it so well. Political pragmatism willing to sacrifice one person.

  • @takeawho Correction, early 70s.

  • ok Annas is super hot at 2:02 even his voice got deeper XD

  • I want to take off the one guy's hat and eat the popcorn in it.

  • Annas is my new favorite. Fabulous! His falsetto is a great contrast with Caiphas' Bass or "Sub Bass".

  • His half-witted friends are still out of control.

  • stay away from people who hang out on scaffolds, shirtless, wearing capes.

  • @Wantango

the band "stomp" also hangs out on scafolding

  • @Wantango

Words of Wisdom my brother, words of wisdom.

  • @Wantango

don't forget to mention the hats...

You shouldn't forget to mention the hats...

    :P

  • 2:00 <3

  • I just love how they are depicted as the typical evil guys.

  • How does he sing that low?

  • @Jacornonthecob

He's a "sub bass" singer. Born with the right vocal chords.

  • The priests sound like they're struggling to keep up with the music

  • haha look at the little one at 1:23 xD he's like ; uhu what he says

  • Those hats look really uncomfortable...

  • jesus was only half jewish

  • "he is dangerous" quick everyone bang a pipe if you agree :)

  • i love Jesus' voice in this

  • I love how one of them is so squeaky and the other is soo low hahahha :D this song makes my life.

  • terrance zdunich would be good for this song, he sings really deep and awesome

  • seriously...take away the weird mushroom hat and overload of facial hair and Caiaphas is a h-o-t-t-y

  • i love the random unfinished building structure thing XD

  • dude at 1:58 is SUPER CREEPY

  • qué gran escena, muy operática y pop a la vez!!

  • when i first saw the movie 35 years ago i did like it ,it opens my eyes towards politics and religion truth meaning .Today earing this song i do understand why .Genial

  • One of my favorite songs and scenes in the iconic movie. The lyrics are so witty and supportive of the new testament narrative. They reflect Tim Rice's rich theological background.

  • the pharisees remind me of a flock of crows sitting atop a tree

  • the best musical presentation ever

  • i guess they couldnt afford to use a donkey in this movie??

  • Palm Sunday is upon us again. I wish I could feel what I used to feel. I had a strong burning passion for God but sadly I lost this following a tragic loss in 2008. I struggle with my faith, but so want to re ignite that burning passion I once had. Even the very rocks and stones would cry out........ so why cant I? Lord I believe, help my unbelief.

  • @SuperStarlight777 that happened to me. when ur despair is lessened then it will come back.

  • @SuperStarlight777 Only you can reignite any passion you once had...it's there but you have to find it. I am not a religious person but I believe something is out there and I will live my life according to how I believe it should be lived. Have faith in yourself, then others who deserve it and then perhaps your faith will return. I have seen persons die who shouldn't have and persons saved who should have died. Be true to youreself.

  • I don't know if I want " what's the buzz" or " jesus must die" for my ringtone...

  • "Listen to that howling mob of blockheads in the street" ..... CLASSIC

I was eight when the movie came out, saw it with my parents probably 5 times. Dad bought the album, I listened to it millions of times.... know the whole thing by heart...

    Tremendous musical and voices...

  • 2000 version dwarfs this one.

  • no wait !!! we need a more permanent solution to our problem....

  • i base my entire knowledge of the easter story from this movie

  • @strickerman101 Actually the story in this movie doesn't go further than Good Friday.

  • gotta be one of the best songs - this caiphas was amazing

  • Jesus was not dangerous.

  • I used to think Caiaphas was Darth Vader when I was younger like cmon he sounds like him he even has that square thingy on his chest!

  • @torason I thought I was the only one who used to think that

  • @24inCalgary lol!!!

  • Another great subtheme in this film is its critisicm of politictians. Caiphas is concerned with the surviva,l at any cost, of his order and group of supporters. Pilate, doesn't hate Christ but chooses to kil him to please the popular crowd instead of what he knows the law says is right and Herod is obsessed with his own self importance and privelge with a slightly amised and very sarcastic of the meaningful message that Jesus is trying to tell people...... so yeah..... thats what I think anyway.

  • A trick or two with lepers - classic line

  • when j.c.s. came out, the christians threw a fit, and said it was blasphemy..because they didnt understand it...christians are known for not understanding...its alot closer to the real jesus than they know...they dont understand the bible, so why should they understand this movie...they also jumped all over "the life of brian", a monty python movie...again, because they didnt understand it, and probably didnt even bother watching it

  • @longfootbuddy Don't say "Christians" as if a few = all, or that Christians are an homogenous group. Plenty of Christians were deeply moved by "Superstar". Plenty watched "Life of Brian" and got it (and laughed hysterically at it!). "They" is only some, one small segment. And even if "They" object, so what? It doesn't mean they don't get Jesus, or don't get the Bible. It isn't to everyone's taste, nothing is. Look at your own prejudices about Christians before you dish out bigoted criticism.

  • @RevWarRev dont bug me

  • it reminds me of tea party people talking about obama

  • @Dojocho Thats funny you say that, when the tea party and Obama both support the pro Wall Street, Pro Imperialistic, Pro Zionist, Status Quo....Where as Jesus looked to passively dismantle the Status Quo.

  • Were doing this musical for our school production... Just love all the characters and music! It's going to be so insanley awesome!! :)

  • @HaaNaaCaa I want you to do something. Cherish the moments that you have with this musical. The greatest memories of my life were during this musical! There's something special about this production. You'll remember it forever (and ever and ever AMEN!) :)

  • Caiaphus has the best Bass 2 voice. It sounds so ominous. It's just makes me think he's really trying to say FEAR ME all the time.

  • My teacher put her soundtrack on when we were doing art and we were supposed to do our stitchwork and I got up and danced around with my string blurting out the lyrics...

  • it's a really lovely church they're in :)

  • really good voices

  • All the voices hear are very good

  • I liked the singing in the soundtrack better

  • @Dojocho you mean the play?

  • Annas has like the coolest voice ever, that piercing tenor. *melts*

  • one thing i'll say for him, Jesus is cooolllll!

  • Because because because of one man

  • i like the bubbles on their heads

  • @zozabean101 living chess pieces

  • @zozabean101

Those bubbles are the best! I will modify my motorbike helmet to look like Caiaphas'

  • Comment removed

  • il basso proviene dall'inferno...

  • Najlepsza piosenka z całego musicalu! A Kajfasz...wymiata ! ! !

  • the guards are kind of campy

  • I'd either want to be Anas, Judas, or Pilate. Even though everyone calls me Jesus because of my hair and general hippie attitude.

  • @jacobnrrs Those are all the parts i would want to do too :)

  • My boyfriend just got Caiaphas in his school. I hope he sounds like this. It's so sickenly evil I love it

  • @MakingTheGradeYAY lucky him. Caiaphas is the only role I could ever get, as much as I'd love to play Judas. I'd like to play anything though :3

  • o.O...Caiaphus is so evil, he doesn't need to breathe! There should be more diaphragm movement when singing...I know, that's kind of odd to notice, but I guess I've seen this clip so many times I'm starting to pick up more details!

  • @elfgurl06 They audio track is recorded at the same time as the video track. So he just marks during the filming.

  • wtfkk???¿¿ q demonioss es estoooo!!! como cai aca? agggggggggggg.... ahahahahahaa

  • The crowd sing "Hosanna Superstar / Hosanna Superstar"... which, later in the play, becomes "We need him crucified / It's all you have to do". A particularly chilling bit of foreshadowing.

  • @CNash85 Check his eyes when they change from won't you fight for me to won't you DIE for me.

    That is haunting.

  • Любимое!!!!!

  • Annas is such a snake, one of the figures that really stick out nicely.

  • That looks more like the future than the past!!!

  • those two priests get REALLY awkward @ 3:40

  • @crabsmagee I know. I positively detest anti- semitism.

  • Someone tell me what they think here. Here goes. I think the scaffolding is symbolic as they are suggesting that Judaism was only the basis for something greater, ie, Christianity? Thanks for an educated and logical reply. : D

  • I'm apparently the only one who likes the 2000 version better.

  • @2:08 "One thing I'll say for him, Jesus is cool!" haha fav line

  • I've always loved the part when it freezes on Jesus' face for a couple seconds as they sing "Would you die for me?" Great bit of foreshadowing.

  • 10 Kaugummis!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mei klass schaut sie

    grod in musik

    des musical on

    is voi coool und vón

dem liad griagt ma voi den ohrwurm ;D

  • best version...that movie was awesome

  • Annas in this sounds terrible.

I like Caiaphas in the 2000 one better too.

I dunno, just sound better to me.

  • @Nothingtearsthebeast NOOOO! BLASPHEMY. Hahahaha.

  • "hey jay z jay z cant u see ur alright for me" :D

  • HOSANA SUPER STAR,LOL

  • daaam jews , see you finally see how eveil they really were..so sad lol

  • @saskatoonfamilyC Jesus was a jew to...

Your comment made little sense. You could say damn jiffy pop hat dudes

  • @saskatoonfamilyC : not a funny joke. By the way your english is horrible. (not saying that mine is perfect, but still yours is really horrible.)

  • @saskatoonfamilyC what's wrong with you?

  • Hmmm. Could just as well be B Obama Superstar. We certainly don't want to "lose control" of the message do we? Maybe it's time to crucify this infidel who suggests hope in place of fear. How do we continue our takeover of the public mind without that critical factor, fear?

  • Hm, Caiaphas was right. Jesus was dangerous, but not by his own hands. The romans didn't like messiahs and holy figures and had a long history of killing kings and other leader figures in their provences to prevent/stop rebellions.

  • I am not religious in any shape or form but I do remember my father's zeal for this movie. It was part of a changing and defining North American culture. The original sound track was a marvel for it's time. It is good to come across it again and to remember all those sittings that I went through in the movie houses. If you put religion aside(no offense meant) this was and is a great piece of music!

  • The bass of Caiaphas coupled with the counter tenor of Annas just makes this song so epic!

  • These blokes remind me of a murder of crows lol.

  • Can i say that the point is to discuss the song/film, not bash a point of view?

Learn to talk without pushing your idea.

  • @EchosOki You're right. As Jesus just sang "Why waste your breath moaning at the crowd"

  • Jiffy-Pop hats FTW

  • That bass sounds so insanely evil...

  • @Akerfeldtfan Yeah, it shows how evil and power-hungry they really were.

  • @Akerfeldtfan I know right? But they are portraying Ciph (Caiaphas) all wrong. But the song is awesome.

  • @Akerfeldtfan He is not evil, just insanely cool.

  • Thumbs up if you're building an ark in the backyard without a fucking permit.

  • This musical has stuck with me all my life. That is how strong an impact it had on me. The music is stunning - especially the Hosanna. That part always makes the hair on my body stand on end. For a musical that is over thirty years old that is some achievement. This has to be number one for me as far as musicals is concerened. The leading actor who played Christ, was outstanding.

  • @wayneleon1000 Ted Neeley is Wonderful, such a strong talent.

  • The change in tone when the verse "Will you fight for me" is sung is some great foreshadowing.

  • bob bimgham... kurt yaghjian... asfdfdfsdsfsfg *¬*

  • @Xcam101

I know! Ha Ha. Think I'll maybe remove my comments.

I do like the film though, It's one of those films you remember from when you were young!

  • I has an idea fer everyone.

lets agree to disagree, would spare a lot of keyboards and safe people from being criticized because of their ideas. never a need to go personal, certainly not online.

  • @gaoth88 WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE....lol jk, i agree about time someone says something and dosent get crucified online for it

  • @threeSAS The irony.

  • i grew up with this film, and its burnt into my brain i love it!! the music , in my mind, is time less and the voice talents are perfect. i don t surpose any one knows when the next stage production in london will be? i m desperate to see it.
