I was always curious about something with 112 and New Edition, I never understood why Slim, was pushed towards the front to sing lead the most often for 112 and why Ralph was pushed in front so much for NE. Anyone who knows the groupls fairly well and knows singin knows that neither one of those dudes were even close to being the best singer of the group. In the CURRENT n.e. lineup (which I think features all 6 guys) Ralph is clearly well BEHIND Johnny, Ricky & Bobby. in 112 Darron's way better.

@brownone75 when maurice starr saw ne perform in a talent contest(they came in second and still he signed them) he was looking for the "next" jackson 5 and ralphs voice reminded him of michael jackson because of the distinct sound of his voice...and he and johnny wasnt supposed to be in the group at the same time, jg was brought in to replace him, but he decided to stay. with slim it just happned to work out that way because of the voice..nobody sounded like him plus they had harmony..

SLIM and RALPH have very recognizable and commercial voices while Daron and Ricky for example have soulful R&B voices that sound like someone you can hear in church, yes they CAN both blow but when it comes to making money...a distinguishable quality or sound STANDS out. I recognize Slim and Ralph in a song no matter who they are singing w/. Daron's lead here sounds like old skool r&b...great singing.

When they came out with the first album in 1996 Q was 19, Daron was 18, Slim was 17, & Mike was 16. It's crazy that the one with the most soulful voice in the group is the shortest and youngest.

However at the talent show which was in 1994 Slim was sick so didn't perform but Reginald came back from the military and performed with Q, Daron, & Mike but he was called back to the military and Kevin Wales still liked them with Slim and got them a audtion with Diddy at Club 112 and their named changed to 112 and after another auditon for people at Bad Boy he decided to sign them cause Faith Evans told him he was crazy if he didn't sign 112. At that time the members were 14-16 when signed.

Reginald was three years older than Q and Daron he was the third member, the Aldon was the fourth member, Slim was the fifth member, Slim almost quit so they brought Q in but Slim stayed so they had six members then Aldon was put out by Daron for not keepin up with the harmonies, then Reginald left to join the military. So it was this lineup of Q, Mike, Slim, & Daron. They got discovered by a friend of Diddy's named Kevin Wales at a talent show in Atlanta. He arranged a meeting with Diddy.

Put it like this you will know when Mike sings cause he'll always put an ad-lib by saying Yes sir on songs he and Daron takes it back to their roots of church all four members sang at church functions and talent shows together when they formed in middle school & high school then they were known as Forte and originally had six members the two who left before the group became 112 was Reginald Finley & Aldon Lagon. Daron & Mike formed the group when they were 10 & 12 respectively.
