I'm unaware of the laws where you live, but recently in England the doorstaff have been instructed that they are responsible not just for policing their club/bar but also the area outside, regardless of whether it is private or public property. By this I mean that, if there is an infringement that has nothing to do with your club, if it is in your vicinity, you HAVE to involve yourself - or risk losing your job.

uh If some bouncer tried to take my phone away from me while i was on a public sidewalk, not only would I attempt to inflict as much bodily harm as possible on him, When the cops showed up I would file police report for theft. I bouncer is not allowed to touch anyone unless they are a threat to either the bouncer or others. And that becomes particularly risky when they are assaulting individuals on public sidewalks.....

Here where I live when the bouncers do that......the whole crowd jumps the bouncers. I've seen it happen more than once. It starts with one small guy being pined down by 3 to 4 huge jug heads. On a footnote to my earlier post, bouncers/securities r much more cautious in this town(24hr drinking/gambling/criminal haven) because of our extremely high murder rate& well, let's say people are very gun happy here. They keep it professional as possible not wanting any backlashes cause there have been incidents of patrons following bouncers home or catching them alone without their other bouncer friends r not around.
my friend does security work here in Vegas, they never pin a guy down in an uncomfortable/ufc choke type position, when they do have a suspect in this position, it's to quickly put handcuffs and or leg ties(if overly uncooperative), on them and sit them back up and wait for the cops. There is not much harm that people can do w/their hands&legs tied together. Just google the laws about whether u can record on a public sidewalk w/your phone, those who take your phone away r doing so to cover up.

On a footnote to my earlier post, bouncers/securities r much more cautious in this town(24hr drinking/gambling/criminal haven) because of our extremely high murder rate& well, let's say people are very gun happy here. my friend does security work here in Vegas, they never pin a guy down in an uncomfortable/ufc choke type position, when they do have a suspect in this position, it's to quickly put handcuffs and or leg ties(if overly uncooperative), on them and sit them back up and wait for the cops. There is not much harm that people can do w/their hands&legs tied together. Just google the laws about whether u can record on a public sidewalk w/your phone, those who take your phone away r doing so to cover up.
