This is good news, but the sad part is that it is not just Zyprexa. All anti-psychotic drugs work by the same mechanism -- blocking neurotransmission. Their effects are detrimental to cognitive function with near 100% certainty. (Consider, under WHAT conditions is blocking your blood vessels beneficial to your heart? The answer is that such conditions don't exist in nature. No one - functional or dysfunctional - needs heart blockers or brain blockers.)
I agree, the victims of this fraud (and not just Zyprexa) should file class action against the drug companies. Also, the government made laws that force patients to take these meds and is also liable for collusion with drug companies. Forcing people to take such meds is a serious violation of human rights, in my opinion.
@MrGimpyLoser Taper yourself off slowly. Stopping all at once is bad, it includes withdrawals and higher rate of relapse. Drink more water, and try some exercise. One way to stop the drug companies is to STOP THE DRUG ADVERTISING ON TELEVISION! I want to puke every time I see one of those depression ads on TV. Cigarette ads were pulled from TV finally when enough people died from smoking. I think more people have died or suffered from Psych Drugs that they should not be allowed to advertise them to a broad unsuspecting public, don't you think? The same with magazine ads and the internet.

Per the OT III materials, you can run Grades 0-IV on a BT, but it has to be addressed to that BT, and it rolls rather fast – may only take 4 – 5 minutes.
You can Date/Locate clusters and run Inc II, Inc Is.
You can Date/Locate clusters and blow them off, but the auditor who does this has got to be a shark at D/Ling. It's the moment the cluster was formed that you date, not when the cluster hits the individual.
Last year in 2008 up to present September, 2009 - There have been more people diagnosed with some type of deppression and 2009 has broke the record with the highest amount of people taking anti-depressants.
I do believe and know that there are good medications out there, to help a person no matter what the medication is.
However, when "new" drugs hit the market and are advertised on TV, they have been mandated to list all adverse side effects, HEARING THOSE, YOU THINK THE DRUG WAS POISEN!
Now drug companies who even adverise this "new" wonder medication are MANDATED to explain and list ALL known side effects, even those of "thoughts of sucide"
There are 8 different anti-depressants Effexor, Zyban, Zoloft etc.. that MUST list the serious side effects, even the fact it could take your life.
KNOW they have made it MANDATORY for doctors to tell patient's before writing a perscription
CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THESE COMPANIES WERE NOT MANDATED TO LIST THESE SIDE EFFECTS
casper18nyc yes we all know obama is a radical but we can't look like crazy's to expose him the OBAMA deception is pretty hokey its just like the birther movement it just makes us look like crazy losers like the truthers we need to stick to our guns like explaning how govt run health care would mean rationing and the denying of rights for our doctors meaning they couldn't run there bussness nor even live were they would want to should we run people out of the practices that save our lives.
Let this be a warning to people who have at least some common sense left. Drug companies are running *WILD* in America. Their main objective is to SELL the drug and PROFIT. Which such conditions, one must be VERY cautious when taking drugs. America takes drugs for EVERYTHING now. A lot of cause more harm than good---all in the name of profit. Be careful guys... seriously.
Wake up, fools... vaccinations are 100% fraud, the med profession is 90% fraud, the government is getting paid off legally, big time - PUT ALL OF THESE PEOPLE IN PRISON.. mainstream media is almost as bad, even this video is 80% fraud, bullshit... tip of the iceberg...
Let me also emphasize, there is NO such thing as schizophrenia or bipolar - these bastards nearly killed me giving me these labels and coercing me into drugs - I was suffering from severe sinusitis, a cyst, the bastards, and when I said complained about it my life was threatened at the job to coerce me into embezzling money. Put these bastards in prison, get them out of the gov's pockets
There's no way to explain what they've done to myself and family. The entire system is fraud and murder and they're lining the pockets of politicians to get off the hook and force themselves on the public. MURDER MURDER MURDER. Stop them or they will do us all in.
Thank you, Douglas to bringing this subject to the forefront of public awareness. The problem is that they are inventing new drugs by the bucket load which they will then peddle again to the children and elderly - the most vulnerable people in the society.
Great job from Douglas Kennedy. Lets write to Fox News to support him all the way. These Psych drugs are all cartels putting people in danger. Send this video to all your friends, schools, and politicians.
wickedceltics; maybe its because he is a midget (you wouldnt know off camera) so he has to raise his voice to normal volume so that it can be heard. I'm only joking, good important coverage.
It's disgusting what they're doing...and NONE of these types of psych drugs handle problems. People are still depressed!! And the rate is soaring!! They don't have any proof or real results, these products are not based on facts, and they have been lying to the public for years.
Really good news, for a change. The only way to impress big pharmaceutical companies about the dangerousness of their psychotropic drugs is through the wallet, since that is their motivation in the first place.
why does this dude think he has to SCREAM his entire script? most annoying news guy of all time it's fair to say. It's as if Dane Cook is reading this newscast, and everyone knows he's the worst.
It's about time someone aired the truth about these drugs. This is just one of many that are ruining lives on a daily basis. Keep up the good work on reporting and getting the truth out to the public. It is appreciated to say the least. The dogs deserve to go broke. And our economy is in trouble? Wonder why.
This is great! Lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies (Eli Lilly being one of the biggest) need to continue until all psychotropics (and their devastating side effects--suicide, violence, death) are removed from the market.
How is it that the FDA can approve such dangerous drugs? Is it possible that they get real chunky kick-backs from Lilly every time they approve one of their drugs? It's time that end of it is getting investigated too.
Does investment in Ely Lilly constitute complicity to murder? Legally no! Morally? IMHO yes! If you know that the company you are invested in is killing people knowingly and you continue to contribute to that company then you are morally complicit in murder.
I definitely agree, my friend, if you invest in a corporation that knowingly allows these pharmaceuticals to fall into the hands of folks who don't need it and then, to top it all off, with fatal ends instead of providing health benefits, then you're guilty of funding assassination and murder through investment [even if you were ignorant of the fact].
Really funny that one comment says Fox is using sensationalism. This is only a corner of probably the biggest story on the planet. What about all the other greedy drug-pushing companies with their noses in the money trough? Time for some of that honest investigative journalism to get the real dirt underthe carpet.
Take them down to their knees for this kind of activity! No one should harm our children and those who worked their whole lives and built what we have benefitted from.
Leave them just enough of a heartbeat to change their ways and to promise to use their knowledge to help, not harm.
Take all the psych drug companies and fine them 50 billion each. Then we can fund the recovery and get the children back to being children instead of drones.
That is a good start. There will be more to come... One day this criminal ativity (psychiatry / pharma) will be eradicated!!! We will continue fighting them until the end.
This is only a slap on the wrist for this drug company. Whay are there not criminal charges for what is clearly criminal behavior on the part of Eli lily?
It is obvious they have their own profits in
mind and care nothing about the public whom they are poisioning with their dangerous medications.
But this is not the only drug which is deadly. Just check any case of psychotic gunners in the schools. Very high percentage of the youngsters who kill their schoolmates, teachers and innocent victims have been previously "treated" with psychiatric drugs. Ritalin etc. are dangerous as well.
I agree with triovejoy - they should be fined double what they made in profits to set the precedent that drug companies need to stop lying to the general public with their so called convincing "facts" which is clearly data-manipulation and psuedoscience. Honestly, other than causing lathargy in their patients can they point to a SINGLE case they have ever actually cured! They don't own the biggest buildings in town because their marketing departments are trying to cure people.
FINALLY!!! Although the penalty is not nearly enough to pay for the lives they've taken. Hats off to Fox News for reporting this story. People need to know the truth so they can protect themselves from these monsters.
Unfortunately, this does not surprise me. These companies are constantly using thier wealth and political influence to push more a more drugs. Especially on children. Just look at how many vaccines are required these days.
This is a small step done in the correct direction. It is about time that drug manufacturers are penalised for what they are indeed: drug peddlers, as bad as their mates from Colombia & other lands - actually worse as people are trusting their 'science'. Not quite enough to stop them but a good blow to their credibility & their PR. So well done to that court! And well done to the journalists that covered the story!
Finally! I don't think $1.42 billion is enough for the deaths it has caused, but its a good start. They should start talking about forking over the $30 billion they made on it.
Although the fine is obvously too small compared to the damage that has been done with these drugs, it is heartwarming that there are people who see how these type of drugs can destroy lives. So , yeah!!!!!
Yes, the 1.4 billion is just a drop in the bucket. They should be fined double or triple what they made in profits. I could see a 100 billion fine easily after such egregious practice.
Excellent report. I am appalled that so many children and elderly have been victimized by this drug and I am elated that Eli Lilly is being held accountable. Keep up the good work!
People worry about the Billions spent on Arms for Wars overseas, - well there are also Billions being spent "legally" Internationally on other deadly weapons - "Psychiatric Drugs", - you might as well call Psychiatric drugs "Weapons of Mass Destruction" as they are completely over-used and mis- prescribed today in society to people who don't even need to be on them, and are dished out now on a massive scale against an uneducated and gullable population to disastrous side effects and results!
Suppressing behavior. Hmmm, sounds like some of what has gone on in Iraq, Pakistan and other parts of the world. Those in positions of power, who don't know how to fix the problem, have to "pacify" using whatever techniques they can - even if those with "the problems" get hurt in the process.
I'm glad Lily got their wrist slapped. I hope more companies do. I hope folks will then find the techniques and learn to apply them properly to solve the problems instead of just covering them up.
Finally someone besides a few courageous individuals and small groups and the Church of Scientology has had the.....to take on the Drug companies-these guys have everyone brainwashed into the idea their products work, they are far worse than the tobacco companies in their effects on the population. The long term side effects of anti depressants is suicide, violent behaviour or just becoming a vegetable, take your pick. Kudos to Kennedy and Tom Cruise and his Church!
I am a consumer of this medication. I am 22 and have been on this med since the age of 13. It causes serious weight gane which took me about 6 months to lose half of yet. It is a med that should ever been used, let alone produced and distribuded. I am happy they Eli Lilly is finally get caught for their wrongdoing. Even for what they made on the drug, their only paying about 10% of the profit for the lawsuit.
$1.4 billion looks big... but this criminal conduct of Elly Lily is just the top of the iceberg. Most of it is still outside view. Behind this all there is fraud much bigger and far more destructive then the Madoff scandal.
Psychatric drugs do simply not cure, no more then opium cures. Yes, it might make people feel better or more calm for a moment, just as opium does. But a medicine ? Curing something ? Scientific ? Price ticket of this fraud : over $400 billion a year.
The actions of terrorist groups the U.S. government has been pursuing pale in comparison to the pervasive harm Eli Lilly has inflicted on the American people. It is heartening to at least see a fraction of this true terrorist group's crimes being exposed to the light of day.
This looks like a move in the good direction, but...
They are convicted of crimes, but nobody is in jail. No jail time, no personal fine, only a company fine much lower than the profits they made on ruining people lives.
Sadly enough, that looks like an authorization for more crimes and consumer ruined lives.
Our elected representatives are no longer "public'servants...they serve big money interests...I.4 billion is chump change considering how much money they rake in. The CEO of ELI Lilly should do some prison time for killing people for greed.
I've been taking "s" for 10 years now for bringing to light these types of psychiatric drug abuses. Good to see some solid forward movement on this front. My hats off to Douglas Kennedy (AND Tom Cruise), as well as anybody else who's had the courage to stand up and say "The emperor has no clothes"!
They will pay just like Exxon will pay for the Valdez spill and the Tobacco companies will pay the suit they lost. It's not going to happen good people. This is just FOX sensationalism again, disguised as news.
These guys are going down. Didn't Tom Cruise say something loudly about the "s" the drug companies are up to? Didn't he say they were drugging our kids? Well 4 yrs later the penny drops! Additional fines should be NO MORE MEDICAID OR MEDICARE MONEY TO LILLY and 10X THE FINE. Thank you Fox and thank you Douglas Kennedy. Job well done.
Yes. 'TRUTH', that's what we need. When you shine the 'light of truth' on criminals like this, the public gets to see what's really going on with 'the man behind the curtain'.
Lilly should be fined for not controlling their employees unscrupulous sales practices that recommended this drug for children. However it would be disingenuous to say all anti-psychotic drugs should be banned which is Tom Cruise's position. If Zyprexa helps an adult person suffering perpetual psychotic breaks and thereby prevent them from endangering themselves and others then these people have a right to those drugs.
Actually Mr. Cruise' position is to FULLY INFORM the public of what these drugs do. The main problem is that people aren't informed or are just plain lied to and as a result they make decisions they wouldn't make if they had ALL OF THE DATA. Cruise wants people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. He got the true data then refused to hold back from communicating. But it's still up to the person himself to fully inform himself before taking any drug. Sometimes that's hard to do.
And they have made 36 billion dlrs, what 1.42 billion in comparision? His family is now enjoying the luxury while the common man pays for his family lifestyle.
why do they want to drug everyone, especially when it can cause more harm than good? Then they wonder why society is so messed up.What about reasoning and education of the childen and parents! All they got was a slap on the wrist. What about all of the people that died or got in trouble due to this drug?
Eirst heard of Eli Lilly back in the 1970's as a 9 year old. Our English teacher taught us this song: "We'll drink, a drink, a drink to Lilly a Pink, the Pink, the Pink The Saviour of the Human Race For she invented a Medicinal compound the most infectious of them all Billy the Hammer had a terrific stammer so they gave him the medicinal compound and now he speaks but is never heard ... Maybe some of you might remember this neat song. Make these vicious corporations pay, dearly.
Oh yea, great to see Ely Lilly being brought to justice. And hopefully it will open the door to other drug companies getting similar or even bigger fines for their mind altering drugs.
Let's keep this simple. Drugs are not food and most people are better off without them. My wife got her parents off of medication and onto health eating about 18 years ago and, even though in their early 80's, they are still extremely healthy and active. These antidepressants and other psychotropics are particularly insidious in their harmful effects on people's lives. There are better answers than sticking a pill in your mouth if you want to have a happy life.
Good piece of reporting. The sad thing is that these criminal activities were initiated not by "the company," but by individuals within the company. If these could be prosecuted on what must surely be felony manslaughter charges, it would help put the brakes on this kind of practice, which as we've seen is not limited to any one company nor any one type of medication.
Finally the truth is coming out about the insidious crimes being commited by the pharmaceutical and psychiatric industries in the name of help. I admire the guts of Fox News to air this information.
I'm so happy to see this issue brought to light in the mainstream media The arrogance and recklessness of the pharmaceutical and psychiatric industries boggles the mind. Kudos to Fox News for broadcasting this information!
Thank God that these things are being brought to light! Makes you wonder just who you can trust when it comes to the medical profession. People should ALWAYS research the meds prescribed to them. Drug companies don't care. They have enough money to cover wrongful death suits. People beware!!!! There is no help forthcoming from the psychiatric industry giving out drugs that are dangerous! almostcher
Wooooohh!!! This is SO AWESOME!!! Drug companies are causing a huge amount of harm to many millions of people around the world and we need this to stop!!! Drugs are poisons...why do you think there are so many "side effects" (which are often very serious health problems themselves) - these "side effects" are the bodies way of trying to get break the drugs down and dispose of them...you don't get "side effects" when your body digests anything else - JUST DRUGS!!!
You apparently don't realize what the consequences of removing all anti-psychotic drugs. There are millions of people that suffer debilitating mental illness. What would become of these people without these drugs? One needs only to observe the mentally ill homeless on the streets of our cities drinking filthy water out of the pot holes in the street. Their families and friends have long ago abandoned them because of their abnormal social behaviors. Is this the world you want to live in?
I am a consumer of this medication. I am 22 and have been on this med since the age of 13. It causes serious weight gane which took me about 6 months to lose half of yet. It is a med that should ever been used, let alone produced and distribuded. I am happy they Eli Lilly is finally get caught for their wrongdoing. Even for what they made on the drug, their only paying about 10% of the profit for the lawsuit.
There are ways to handle "mental illness" with nutrition and a calm environment. Educating the homeless on how to handle their environment rather than letting their environment take control of them can be done. It will not be easy but it can be done and then, yes, that is the world I would want to live in.
What crazy is that this isnt a bigger story! How many people out there are still taking this drug and havn't heard about it. How many other drugs are out there that harm and kill for the sake of profit???
It should be more than a fine and a misdemenor to manufacture drugs that destroy lives like the ones that lilly manufactures. But at least this is a start!
Thank you Douglass and Fox for making the obvious extremely obvious! These drugs are violent, as are the people who prescribe them and the companies and employees who sell them.
Zyprexa saved my life. Without it, life would be hell for me.

However, when "new" drugs hit the market and are advertised on TV, they have been mandated to list all adverse side effects, HEARING THOSE, YOU THINK THE DRUG WAS POISEN!
ktoddweaver 2 years ago
It's about time this has gotten mainstream exposure! And there is much much more to be done! Drug companies have been running amok for years!
pbablia 2 years ago 4
Amen to that!
CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THESE COMPANIES WERE NOT MANDATED TO LIST THESE SIDE EFFECTS
ktoddweaver 2 years ago
Zyprexa Lilly cash cow in billion dollar litigation
WARNING-
If a drug (Zyprexa) lists anything about the pancreas among the side effects, it probably means it can cause diabetes.
Unlike your liver, the pancreas does not regenerate itself. If it gets damaged, diabetes is very likely.
Zyprexa is glorified Thorazine at ten times the price

Let this be a warning to people who have at least some common sense left. Drug companies are running *WILD* in America. Their main objective is to SELL the drug and PROFIT. Which such conditions, one must be VERY cautious when taking drugs. America takes drugs for EVERYTHING now. A lot of cause more harm than good---all in the name of profit. Be careful guys... seriously.

Are you invested in Ely Lilly?
Does investment in Ely Lilly constitute complicity to murder? Legally no! Morally? IMHO yes! If you know that the company you are invested in is killing people knowingly and you continue to contribute to that company then you are morally complicit in murder.
KendoTheGreenWiza 3 years ago
I definitely agree, my friend, if you invest in a corporation that knowingly allows these pharmaceuticals to fall into the hands of folks who don't need it and then, to top it all off, with fatal ends instead of providing health benefits, then you're guilty of funding assassination and murder through investment [even if you were ignorant of the fact].

But this is not the only drug which is deadly. Just check any case of psychotic gunners in the schools. Very high percentage of the youngsters who kill their schoolmates, teachers and innocent victims have been previously "treated" with psychiatric drugs. Ritalin etc. are dangerous as well.

Meganzoo3 3 years ago 4
Suppressing behavior. Hmmm, sounds like some of what has gone on in Iraq, Pakistan and other parts of the world. Those in positions of power, who don't know how to fix the problem, have to "pacify" using whatever techniques they can - even if those with "the problems" get hurt in the process.
I'm glad Lily got their wrist slapped. I hope more companies do. I hope folks will then find the techniques and learn to apply them properly to solve the problems instead of just covering them up.

This looks like a move in the good direction, but...

8b8008 3 years ago
Lilly should be fined for not controlling their employees unscrupulous sales practices that recommended this drug for children. However it would be disingenuous to say all anti-psychotic drugs should be banned which is Tom Cruise's position. If Zyprexa helps an adult person suffering perpetual psychotic breaks and thereby prevent them from endangering themselves and others then these people have a right to those drugs.
Prosper102 3 years ago
Actually Mr. Cruise' position is to FULLY INFORM the public of what these drugs do. The main problem is that people aren't informed or are just plain lied to and as a result they make decisions they wouldn't make if they had ALL OF THE DATA. Cruise wants people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. He got the true data then refused to hold back from communicating. But it's still up to the person himself to fully inform himself before taking any drug. Sometimes that's hard to do.

There are better answers than sticking a pill in your mouth if you want to have a happy life.
rwj007 3 years ago
Good piece of reporting. The sad thing is that these criminal activities were initiated not by "the company," but by individuals within the company. If these could be prosecuted on what must surely be felony manslaughter charges, it would help put the brakes on this kind of practice, which as we've seen is not limited to any one company nor any one type of medication.

There are ways to handle "mental illness" with nutrition and a calm environment. Educating the homeless on how to handle their environment rather than letting their environment take control of them can be done. It will not be easy but it can be done and then, yes, that is the world I would want to live in.
